Instead of buying my party decorations for my little princess, I made them! And by making everything, I was able to customize, resize and recolor to fit exactly what I wanted. Read on to find out how I created my hybrid princess party...in pink of course!

Thanks for stopping by today to see my party decorations! As soon as my almost-three year old and I settled on “princess” as the theme of her upcoming birthday party, I knew I wanted to challenge myself to use digital elements to create a hybrid birthday party.

I ended up using a mix of different products from several designers and was able to coordinate everything. My creations included invitations, two banners, two centerpiece castles, goodie bags, and a party game. I will also soon be creating thank you notes using the same products.

Supplies:

Princess Freestyle Album by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Wildflower by Nicole and Joyce. Paper 2

Kissing Frogs by Nikki Epperson. Papers 3 and 10.

DIY Scalloped Banner, MKC

CK Ali’s Writing Font

Photoshop Elements 6

Epson Premium Presentation Paper

Cardstock

Stamp (Reflections), ink and Copic markers

Foam tape

Gems

Ribbon

Cardboard and Scor-Tape

Scalloped Circle paper punch

My first task was invitations. I cut all my cardstock to 5×7 inches and then designed the cardfront in Photoshop Elements to be 4.75x 6.75 inches. The pink paper is Paper 2 from the Wildflowers kit. I then stamped the princess image onto separate cardstock, colored, cut and adhered. By adding gems and a ribbon I was able to take them from simple to pretty and princessy!

Next up was table decorations. I took a page from Kelleigh’s Princess Freestyle Album, enlarged it, and added the same light pink paper used in the invites and some darker pinks to have it coordinate.

To make the castle stand alone on the table, I simply traced the shape onto a piece of thick cardboard and cut about 1/2 inch inside the lines. I adhered the cardboard to the castle with Scor-Tape. Then I added a small strip of cardstock at the bottom, also adhered with scor-tape, to make it stand.

The banner was created using Mari Koeglenberg’s DIY Printable Scallop Banner, a favorite of mine! I used the same papers as on the invites and castle table decorations and added them onto the banner in Photoshop. After printing and cutting, I strung each piece onto my ribbon. I also printed off two smaller castles to add to the banner and some text.

My son insisted on having a party game at the last minute, so I looked in Nikki Epperson’s Kissing Frogs kit and found the circle label image and the crown. I prepared a document with rows of crown within the circle in photoshop and printed it. I then took my scalloped circle paper punch and punched each one out.

We hid them throughout our yard as a treasure hunt and as the kids found them, they claimed a prize from the basket filled with a random assortment of goodies! This turned out to be a great game to play with varying ages of kids as you can hide some in easier spots for the younger kids, and in tricker places for the older ones.

Last up are the goodie bags. I simply created a document in Photoshop, added the digital papers, the digital scalloped frame, the frog image for the boys and each child’s name. After printing them off, I added a stamped princess image on each girl’s bag and adhered each to the goodie bags.

Thanks for visiting The Hybrid Chick today and viewing my hybrid princess party goodies. I hope I’ve given you a few ideas on how you can create your own party decorations and invitations!

Learn how Debbie used a template from Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs and some digital paper from Quirky Twerp to make a quick and elegant present for someone who is feeling under the weather!

Recently, I found out that a special friend of mine from my monthly book club has been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. I decided to make her a special gift hoping to lift her spirits but I wanted the gift to be practical, too. So while looking around the Digichick Boutique, I stumbled onto a few items I thought would fit my needs.

Since this friend of mine is an avid reader, I thought a bookmark would be good. But not just one bookmark because I know since she has been housebound that reading is something she is doing alot of. Plus I wanted to give her something she could give to those helping her out during this illness. I thought she could write a note on the back of a bookmark/tag thanking that person for helping her. Using the digital elements really made this project easy and fun!

Here are all the supplies I used:

Fabrications Classic Scrapbook Pack – Quirky Twerp

Easter Basket Template Set - Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs – print Large template onto dark gray cardstock and cut out.

Loves’ Flower Clear Stamp set – Verve Stamps

gray ink pad, sponge, Ivory Organdy ribbon, black rick rack, Scor-pal, Scor-tape

Jumbo Classic Scallop Borderabilities – Spellbinders Paper Arts

I made the basket from some heavy gray cardstock. After assembly, I cut 4 pieces of patterned paper that I printed out onto white cardstock. I used the Fabrications Patterned paper #2. Using a sponge, I added some gray ink around the edges to give it the vintage look that goes with this paper pack.

After adhering the sides into place on the basket, I cut/embossed the handle using my Wizard die cutting machine and the Classic Jumbo Borderabilities Petite die template. This die makes a perfect handle for a basket!

Then I printed out the tags I wanted onto white cardstock and cut them out by hand. Using the sponge, I added ink around the edges. Then I stamped the sentiment using the same gray ink. I love how this sentiment looks on the tag, don’t you?

After I tied the ribbon into place, I used my Heat Embossing gun to “crinkle” my ribbon. It doesn’t take much heat and it is easy to do but don’t heat the ribbon for too long or it will burn. (Ask me how I know!)

Here is my completed project. I think my friend will really like this special gift! Hopefully I will put a smile on her face!

Here is a cute photo frame that could double as a table favor for weddings, baby showers, or family reunions… and it’s so quick and easy!

Supplies I used for my photo party favor:

Passionberry by Jennifer Labre and Heather T, The DigiChick

Matchbox Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Plastic Cap from a sports drink

Wine cork

Black acrylic paint and brush

Basic supplies (scissors, glue, pencil, push pin)

1. Design the matchbox template and print out. Assemble the box according to directions.

2. Paint the cap, this will be the lens on the front of the camera . I used a hack saw to cut an 1/2 inch off the end of a wine cork… this will be the “take photo button”, as my son calls it. Used a push pin to hold up the cork button to paint. Note… if you are doing multiple lenses/buttons I would use black spray paint.

3. After letting the cap dry completely over night, trace the opening on your photo with a pencil. You will still need to trim a bit in order for the photo to fit inside the cap.

4. Using your favorite adhesive, attach the larger cap to the front of the box, flat side down; and the cork button to the top of the box on the left side.

5. Insert the photo and finish decorating. Note… If you want the photo to be more to the front of the cap, use foam dots.

Now, wouldn’t these looks so cute on a table at a wedding or baby shower? And since it was made of the Matchbox Templates, you could put little treats in side or weights if you are going to be displaying these in a windy area.

I was into sewing long before I started paper crafting so when I see a beautiful piece of patterned paper whether it is paper or digital, I often think it would be so cool to have a piece of fabric to match. There are some great products out there that allow me to do just that and I have finally gotten around to doing some experimenting with them.

Today I have an embellishment idea and a gift bag project using printable fabric to show you.

EMBROIDERY FLOSS, NEEDLE, THREAD, FABRIC GLUE, BRADS, EYELETS, CROPADILE (or eyelet setter), 1/8th

INCH HOLE PUNCH

There are several types of printable fabric including cotton, and silk, I have chosen the cotton twill for these projects because of the nice texture and weight. It is available in both iron on and plain. For these projects make sure to get the plain, paper backed fabric NOT iron-on.

BUTTONS

Buttons for covering are available in a variety of sizes and can be found in both flat and bubble shapes. Since you have the ability to make your digital elements any size you want you can customize them to fit your project.

I like to plan ahead to conserve my fabric so I will assemble the elements I will be using for several projects in photoshop on an 8.5X11 in page. I make a variety of sizes around the size of my button and then print them off on paper so that I can compare the design on the size of the button. You may want the design to roll over the edges of the button or just lay on the surface – you will see this further on down in my pics. Once I know what I want I will then go ahead and print them on the fabric sheet.

I think they really retain their color and design well on this brand of fabric and you can see the nice texture.

There is a circle guide on the back of the button container that shows the size of the circle necessary to cover the button. This was used to cut around my element. The fabric’s paper backing was peeled off.

This is the key to getting a nice, flat, professional looking button. Don’t panic if you don’t do much sewing, this is real easy, just run a plain in and out stitch along the edge of the circle. The color of thread doesn’t matter as it will be covered up.

Place the top of the button into the circle and pull the thread to gather it around the button. Turn it over and adjust the image as necessary to center it. Knot the thread and cut off the excess.

Snap the back of the button into place, sometimes this can take a little muscle or the help of a spool of thread (see the back of the button box). If you want a flat look on your project, the shank of the button can be clipped off with a pair of wire cutters.

You can get different looks by adjusting the size of the image around the button. They can be used on cards, scrapbooks, and lots of sewing projects. Wouldn’t that lion look cute on a pair of kid’s overalls?

GIFT BAG

It is so nice to make your own gift bags and this is a way to make one that is a bit more long lasting than the paper ones.

Using the Fancy Bags Template and digi paper I made the bag just as I would if I were making it out of paper but printed it on the fabric sheet. If you need some tips on how to use templates and digi paper check out THIS post.

The template was cut out and the paper backing removed.

An iron was used to press the fabric at the fold lines of the template.

Fabric glue was used to assemble the bag as per the template instructions.

You can use a bit of fray check along the edges to prevent the fabric from fraying or you can add a little embroidery as I did.

A Cropadile was used to add a couple eyelets to the flap.

A ribbon was attached to the inner part of the bag and aligned with the eyelets. I sewed the ribbon but it could be glued as well. Set the bag aside for a few minutes to make a flower embellishment.

I printed out some flower from the FRU FRU kit on the fabric in a few different sizes.

Using the layers of the flower as a guide, several different layers were cut. Holes were punched in the center and the layers assembled.

And a brad was placed through the center. Fray check could again be used on the edges but I liked the shabby look and furthered it by crumbling the petals in my hand.

The flower/brad was threaded through a hole in the flap and the ribbon was pulled through the eyelets and tied.

Check back on Wednesday for Part 2, when I will show you an inexpensive way to make some digital fabric wall art.

Thanks so much for stopping by, have a good one!

I made a simple circle card and candy dispenser that will be perfect for a birthday gift set.

Hi all! I have a little birthday project to share with you today. I made a little circle card and candy dispenser using EloDesigns’ beautiful Birthday Bash kit and Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs’ Candy Dispenser Template Set.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Neenah Classic Solar White

Digital kit: Birthday Bash by EloDesigns

Template: Candy Dispenser Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Stamp: Hero Arts (sentiment)

Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black

Dies: Spellbinders Nestabilities Standard Circles Large, Spellbinders Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Circles Large

Die cutting machine: Cuttlebug

Adhesives: 3M, Recollections, Glossy Accents

I love the beautiful scenery patterned papers in the Birthday Bash kit, so I decided to build a little scene with some elements from the kit.

I first placed the tower and the rocks on my background before I printed them out. I then printed out one extra set of the tower and the rocks, cut them out then pop doted them over the original images. This way I didn’t have to worry about cutting out the delicate parts like the swirly thing-y that extended out from the roof of the tower and the grass around the rocks. I then cut out the banners then attached them using pop dots. The circle part of the card is then pop doted over the scalloped card base, also printed from one of the patterned papers from the Birthday Bash kit.

I used another pretty paper from the kit and Kelleigh’s template to make my candy dispenser. I printed out the banners again to decorate the front of the dispenser. I used my finger nails to curl up the ends of the banners a little to add a little more dimension. I didn’t have any candy on hand when I was taking this photo, so I put some Fimo marbles that I made in it, just in case you are curious. =)

Hope this will inspire you to make a circle card or a shaped card using your digital kits.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by! =)

This is my first blog entry, but not my first hybrid project using one of Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s amazing templates! This project starts with a story…

My husband and his 2 sisters grew up watching “The Goonies” over and over again, and they decided to take the trip to Astoria, OR (a 3 hour drive) a few Sundays ago for The Goonies 25th Anniversary Weekend.

They took our oldest son, Gavin, and had a blast at the beach, going on a “treasure hunt,” and seeing all the sights of Astoria and from the movie. They also made a stop at the school where Kindergarten Cop was shot. It was a big day for those Goonies, and I wanted to commemorate it with a little project for the hubbie!

I did this last week not intending to write a post about it, so I apologize that I do not have any pictures of my steps. Kelliegh makes it SO easy, though, and she has tutorials to help newbies!

I downloaded her Toolbox template from TDC shop, and I opened it up as an Adobe Acrobat document so I could print it on cardstock. I chose Close to my Heart’s Chocolate cardstock.

I cut out the template using Cutter Bee scissors and used a tongue-presser type stick to help me get nice creases on the dotted fold lines. I cut out paper from the CTMH Caprice paper pack and inked the edges with Chocolate ink to add to the treasure chest.

I have the Ahoy Matey stamp set from CTMH, and I used that to add some embellishments (like the embossed Jolly Roger and gold coins). I also used the Hodgepodge and Tiny Typewrite Alpha sets from CTMH.

Once I completed the little treasure chest, I printed 18 photos cropped and sized to 2×3 (you can do this fairly easily with just printing your pics in wallet size and hand cropping them if you don’t want to photoshop them), and I mounted them on 9 2.25″x3.25″ rectangles of chocolate cardstock. I ran a ribbon under the pictures on one side so that the ablum would be connected and fold nicely into the treasure chest.

My husband loved the surprise, and Gavin was so excited! Are all little boys (and big boys) into pirates??

Feel free to ask any questions about this project! It was so easy, thanks to Kelleigh!

Using Kelleigh Ratzlaff's Star Spangled templates, Debbie shows you how to turn regular cardstock into a wonderful banner celebrating that special Dad!

So what do you do for a man who is a great Dad AND has a birthday on July 3? You make him a banner to start the celebration!

I decided to use Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Star Spangled Template to make a banner to celebrate my hubby for Father’s Day AND his birthday! Every year we have a big BBQ at our house to celebrate July 4th and my hubby’s birthday. So this banner will be perfect to start our decorating!

The supplies you will need to make your Star Spangled Banner are:

Kelleigh’s Star Spangled Template

Cardstock in your choice of colors

Banner Bigz XL Sizzix die (optional)

Scor-pal or other scoring tool

Scor-Tape or other heavy duty adhesive

buttons

ribbon

linen thread

adhesive

First I downloaded Kelleigh’s Star Spangled Template and printed the large stars onto Stampin’ Up!’s Real Red & Not Quite Navy cardstock. I also printed the small stars onto white cardstock. I cut them out and scored them. This is a great project for kids to help you with. My youngest daughter is off school now and has been bored so I put her to work helping with this project! She had a blast!

After cutting out the stars, I scored along the printed lines using my Scor-pal. Then using my manual die cutting machine and a Sizzix Bigz XL die, I die cut the banner pieces from the same red and navy cardstock. After prefolding the stars, I layered them using some Scor-tape on the small flaps and adhered them together. Here is a close up of how they look.

I printed out the letters using my word processing program and cut/embossed them using Classic Circle Nestabilities from Spellbinders Paper Arts. I added the Scalloped Circle Nestabilities mat behind my letters. I adhered the letters using some 3d foam squares. There is a lot of dimension to my project, too. Here are a few more close-ups.

This banner did not take a long time to make. It was so easy using Kelleigh’s Star Spangled Template! I didn’t purchase anything special to make this either. I just used supplies I had in my craft room. I am sure you have the supplies to make something similar. Give it a try!

Using Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs' Memo Box and Mari K's new kit, In the Garden, I created a beautiful notecard box that I would be proud to give to any woman in my life...but really I'm going to keep it for myself!

I had so much fun making this vintage, soft trio of notecards and the beautiful matching box. And it really came together so quickly! The best part is that this project can be redesigned in so many ways using minimal extra products.

Kelleigh has create her memo box to be the perfect fit and when you open the file, it is very clear as to where you need to clip the digital papers. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

And, you won’t find a more gorgeous set of floral papers and elements to use in a project like this! By including designs with blue tones as well as pinks, Mari’s kit is also useful for more masculine projects. You should definitely check out some of the scrapbook layouts made with this kit–wow!!

Here’s what I used:

In the Garden kit by Mari K

Above you can see how I laid out the digital paper and elements on the sheet to be printed. I clipped more papers than I needed to the memo box and wasted some of my ink–lesson learned!

When I’m making projects, I never really have an exact end result in my head so I wanted to print enough of the digital papers and elements to give myself some freedom to create. I was drawn to the beautiful tags that Mari included in the kit and I knew that I wanted my notecards to feature those.

With such amazing papers I didn’t need to add much to make these cards pretty. The silk ribbon echos the soft feel of the designs and I thought that the butterflies worked well with the floral images. Also adding to the soft theme are the rounded corners that I punched into the corner of each card.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my project today!

The end of the school year is upon us! For a lot of students that means graduation - pre-school graduation, kindergarten graduation, high school graduation and college graduation. Today I'm going to show you how to create a graduation cap gift box.

One of my most favorite things to do is to take a template and use it for something other than it’s original suggested use. And today’s post is no different.

Today I’m going to show you how to take Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Canister Box template set, flip it over and turn it into a graduation cap gift box.

But wait….not only is this gift box a super sweet and fun way to give a gift, but it also makes a great table centerpiece for that graduation party you are giving!

For the graduate, you could fill the box with a small gift or money.

As a table centerpiece, it could hold candy kisses, nuggets, M&M’s or anything else you can think of.

So let’s get started with our supply list:

Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Canister Box Template Set – I used the short canister template

computer paper to print the template on

black cardstock – I used cardstock from Stampin’ Up!

adhesive of choice

black brad

embroidery floss

1. Open Kelleigh’s short canister file in your photo editing program.

2. Hide all layers of the template except for the lines.

3. Print the template on computer paper – this will be your pattern to trace around on the black cardstock. Unless you have a printer with a white cartridge, you will be unable to print directly onto the black cardstock.

4. Open the canister bottom file – hide all layers of the template except for the lines.

5. Resize the canister bottom to 96%. This will allow the piece to fit inside of the canister.

6. Print the canister bottom on computer paper – again this will be our pattern to trace around.

7. Cut around the printed canister – I cut out the connecting center sections of the template as they won’t be needed.

8. Cut around the printed canister bottom.

9. Position the computer paper canister and bottom template on the black cardstock and trace around the edges using a pencil. It may be a little hard to see but totally worth not having white gel pen lines showing on the black cardstock. Cut out the black cardstock canister and canister bottom.

10. Score all canister and bottom score lines.

11. Assemble box by gluing the tab on one side of template to the inner side of the other side of the template to form canister. Fold tabbed pieces inward and secure with adhesive of your choice. (See Kelleigh’s instructions included in canister template)

12. Cut a 5 x 5 inch square piece of black cardstock. Punch a hole in the center of square – I used my paper piercing tool. Center and adhere canister bottom on square. Punch hole through canister bottom piece.

To Create a tassel:
13. To create a tassel, wrap white embroidery floss around a 2 1/4 inch strip of firm cardstock or cardboard approx. 20-25 times. The more times you wrap the floss, the thicker your tassel will be. Holding the floss, cut it along one edge of the cardstock/cardboard.

14. Using a long piece of floss, tie a square knot against the bunched floss. These long pieces will become the string that the tassel hangs from.

15. Fold the bunched floss in half to form a tassel and tie a small piece of embroidery floss approx. 1/2 inch from the fold and then hide the tied knot in the center among the longer tassel pieces.

16. Put the top of the graduation hat on the canister. Hold the tassel by the long strands of floss at the center of the black square and shorten the hanging length of the tassel to what you desire.

note: if the above steps to make a tassel didn’t make sense, just google “make your own tassel” and you’ll find lots of instructions and photos!

17. Secure tassel in place with a black brad.

18. Put the top on your graduation cap box tucking rounded tabs to the inside of the cannister.

And there you have it, your very own graduation cap box – ready to fill with goodies!

May is slowly or should I say quickly winding down, but that doesn’t stop me from looking for quick gift ideas. This super easy canister box is perfect for filling with candy, cookies, or other small items.

Supplies:

Canister Box template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Digital paper of your choice, I used Spring Breeze by Jennifer Labre Designs

Trimmer, scissors and scoring tools

Adhesive

Embellishments

I was really drawn to the spring colors in this kit and had the perfect flowers to match. I actually added some strips to each side of the canister, so to save space I added the strips along with the bottom of the canister on one sheet of paper.

After I had printed, I was ready to cut it out and score it.

Using my craft knife, I cut out the insides before I cut it completely out. It makes it easier that way.

Once I had my template cut out, I cut out the strips and adhered them.

Now I’m ready to start assembling this. One thing I learned is that the top of the box can be a little tricky. Make sure you really bend the pieces back and forth, it will make closing it a lot easier. So you just need to add some adhesive to the long strip and the little tab at the top.

It will look like this when you are done, with me so far.

Next step is to close the top of your box. Match up the tabs, all the way around the box, making sure you are going in the same direction the whole time. It took me a little bit to get it, but once you get all the tabs, it will close. And the end result will be this:

The final step is to put the bottom on, pretty simple, just add adhesive and line up with the top.

Once I had my box assembled, I added more embellishments. It turned out really cute.
