Join me today as I show you a couple of adorable Christmas critters using the standing pillow box template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff!

Have you seen Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s standing pillow box? I have always been a fan of the standard pillow box template, but when she came out with a standing pillow box, I squealed with excitement and may have jumped for joy a little. The possibilities for this box are endless, limited by your own imagination. I sat down and came up with about twenty ideas for this box in just a few minutes after I learned about it! Today I’m going to show you how I made two small Christmas-themed boxes using this awesome template.

Supplies:

eyes from Spookie Dookie kit by Karen Lewis Designs

Photoshop

black ribbon by May Arts

ribbon buckle by Memories

red line tape (also known as Terrifically Tacky Tape, or TTT)

I started by adding the pillow box png file to Photoshop. I wanted to fit two boxes on one 8.5×11 canvas, so I duplicated the pillow box layer. I clipped a red paper to one box and a brown paper to the other. I added the leaves for the ears to the canvas, and clipped the brown paper to those as well. I flipped one of the leaves horizontally by going up to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal. I added the eyes from the Spookie Dookie kit by Karen Lewis Designs, and used a red brad element from the Sweet and Crafty kit by Quirky Twerp to create the nose. I added a slight shadow to the nose to make it stand out a little.

Here is what my canvas looked like when I was done with the design portion of my project.

I printed my document and then cut out each box. I scored along the scoring lines and added red line tape to the side flap.

Before assembling the box, I should have drawn a mouth using a Sharpie marker, as it is much easier to write on a flat box! Next, I adhered the sides of the box together and then folded up the bottom. I added red line tape to the bottom of each leaf and attached them to the top corners of the box.

Look at how cute he is! My daughter is thrilled with him and wants to claim him for her own. I could have stopped here, but I wanted to keep creating!

I decided to make a Santa-esque box next. I cut the box out and scored it. I learned my lesson with the reindeer mouth, and before folding up this box, I added a strip of red line tape across the entire box, about 1/3 of the way up from what would be the bottom once the box was folded.

Then I slid my buckle onto my ribbon, and adhered both to the box by laying the ribbon and buckle down on top of the tape and then pressing down firmly. I made sure my buckle was in the middle of what would be the front of the box.

After that step was complete, I added red line tape to the side of the box.

I finished assembling the box and giggled to myself at how cute it had turned out! The buckle does make it tip forward while empty, but it was not anything a few pieces of strategically placed chocolate couldn’t fix!

This pillow box is so versatile. I could have used it to make an angel, a snowman, an elf, a cat, a pig, a bunny, an owl… you get the idea! As I said before, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!

If you use this pillow box to make a little creature, be sure to leave a link so I can check it out!

This should get you in a festive mood...come join me, I made some festive tags and a Christmas pocket to put them in! ;)

Hi it’s Bonnie from p i n k b o n b o n s popping in with another Design Team project!!

I’m not sure about you but I absolutely love Christmas! One of my daughters, Miss Molly, was born on Christmas Day too, so Christmas is extra special around here! I decided to make some sweet tags. These are one of my favourite things to create. I always make tags for gifts at Christmas…they can really make a present! I packaged them all up in a sweet Christmas pocket! I hope these Christmas tags get you in a festive mood!

A cute craft for your kids to complete, listing what they are thankful. This would make a great craft for Thanksgiving!!

Oh my gosh… I can not believe how close we are to celebrating Thanksgiving!! I’m not ready for the stampede of family members coming for dinner in a few weeks! LOL!

However, this is the first year that my son is really getting into each holiday and it has been fun coming up with new traditions… and for this holiday, I want to focus more on what are we thankful for instead of the day being all about food and football (our team plays this year on Thanksgiving – Go Pack Go!! ).

So, without further adieu, here is today’s craft – a Thankful Turkey.

Supplies

Sarah Jones Designs’ A Bushel and a Peck

Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Perfect Pumpkin Template Set and Cutting Files

Scissors

Adhesive

Googlie eyes

Black marker

Hole punch

Brad

1. In your photo editing software, clip papers to the top of the pumpkin box. For the feathers, I used one of the felt leaves from the border and clipped paper to the leaf. The other parts of the turkey are shapes drawn in my editing software… one 3 inch circle, one 1.5 inch circle and one 1 inch diamond shape.

2. Assemble the top of the pumpkin, this will be the body of the Turkey.

3. Fold the larger circle in about 1/2 inch… this will help the front of the turkey sit forward.

4. Attach foam adhesive to the back of the smaller circle and attach to the top of the large circle.

Note: I ran out of foam adhesive, so I used foam shapes that my son was using on his craft project. And since you can get HUGE containers of different shapes, it is cheaper than the basic foam adhesive found in the scrapbooking area.

5. Adhere the eyes and beak to the small circle… to make the beak, fold the diamond in half.

6. Attach the larger circle to the body.

7. Have your child write out what they are thankful for on the feathers.

8. I was just going to adhere the feathers to the body, but I decided instead of punch a hole through all the feathers at the bottom.

9. Punch a hole through the body, opposite end from where you attach the head.

10. Attach the feathers to the body with a brad.

11. Spread out the feathers.

My son was so excited about this project that I think I will have to print out more feathers… he has a lot of favorite toys he wants to add to his list. Next he asked if he could wear it as a hat… lol!!

So, I guess this is a duel purpose craft… haha!

I hope you are inspired to craft the season with your kiddos… I would love to see what you make, please leave a link so I can give some love!

Be the hit on the block with these pumpkin topped suckers!! Your kids will love to help decorate and hand them out to all their friends!

Happy day, fellow Hybrid Chick fans!! Rebecca here today with another fun and fast craft for you, just in time for Halloween… cute pumpkin topper for suckers! These come together so fast and would be such a cute treat for that special kiddo in your life or for their school friends!

Supplies

Sweet Strawberry Template Set – Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Hocus Pocus Bundle – Cluster Queen Creations and geniaBeana Scraps

twine or ribbon

scissors

hole punch

tape runner

Green Paper Flowers by Bride’s (optional)

Dum Dum Pops

1. Clip your papers to the strawberry templates in your photo editing software. For the Dum Dum pops, I used the small strawberry template… and since they are now orange, I’m going to refer to them as pumpkins. *wink*

2. After cutting out the pumpkins and scoring the sides, punch holes in the dots marked on the tips of the template and also in the center where all the sides will meet… this is where the sucker stick will come through. I used the smaller punch size (3/16) on the crop a dile I.

3. Glue the tab to form the bottom of the pumpkin.

4. Insert the sucker into the pumpkin.

5. Cut a piece of twine or ribbon to about 6 inches and thread from inside out, through each hole.

6. Pull together and knot the top to create the stem.

7. Glue the flower to the pumpkin.

8. Glue the tag onto the stick.

And there you have it… pumpkin toppers for Dum Dum Pops!! Aren’t they cute? You can even get the kids involved and have them decorate the pops after the pumpkin is attached.

I hope you are inspired to try this craft at home… until next time!!

Here's a simple way to decorate your office or home for the Fall holiday! I'll show you how you can easily change it out for any season!

If you’re like me, you spend one-third of your life at work and you would much rather be home surrounded by all things crafty! Since I have to work to afford my hobby (and pay the bills), I wanted to make something seasonal to decorate my office. That way, I can still have a little bit of my papercrafting with me while I’m there! You could use this as home decor on an end table or to greet your guests as they enter your home!

Here’s what you’ll need to make this seasonal beauty…

Golden Harvest Collaboration by Mari and Danielle

Autumn Leaves Template Set and Cutting Files by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Brown Chalk Ink

Embossing folder

Wooden circle (or other shape)

Circle Cutting Tool

Scissors and adhesive

Embellishments and ribbon

Begin by printing out the papers you would like to use for your leaves and then run them through the printer again so the leaves template prints right on top. Print out any additional patterned papers you would like to use as well as any titles or other elements.

Cut out the leaves, emboss them with your favorite embossing folder and ink the edges. Sweep the ink pad across the top of the leaves to bring out the embossed pattern.

Repeat until all of your leaves and elements are cut out and inked up! I was surprised at how quickly this was done!

I used an eight inch wooden circle that I had laying around from an unfinished project, but you can use any sturdy material…maybe even an old plate.

If you don’t have anything sturdy, try cutting your own circle from chipboard and covering it with a piece of cardstock cut to the same size.

Cut out your background paper and apply to the circle with adhesive. Apply your title or sentiment with adhesive in the desired location. Then, start to layer up your leaves.

I originally layered my leaves in a pattern going up the left side of the circle, but I bumped into it and all the leaves ended up in the center…I liked it better there so I decided to adhere them across the center of the circle instead! Funny how things happen that way!

Finish off your decor with a matching ribbon and some Fall inspired embellishments. My bow is actually three bows layered on top of each other. I added a chipboard clock and some Fall colored berries. I topped it off with my acorn that was embossed and inked to match the leaves.

Here’s the finished project sitting on an easel in my family room. I hope I can bring myself to take it with me to work tomorrow! Maybe I’ll wait a few days…

This project can easily be made for all of the seasons and even holidays too. Keep an easel on your window sill or shelf at work and swap it out to surround yourself with your favorite things while you’re at work!

Come check out how I turned a milk carton into a spooky house that's perfect as a Halloween decoration or gift!

Fall is in the air and that means Halloween is around the corner. I know we have a little more than a month until it’s time to don the costumes and go Trick or Treating for candy, but crafters know we have to get a jump start on all things holiday if we are to finish the projects on our list before the date arrives!

Today I’m going to show you how to create a spooky house using the Milk Carton Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff. I decorated the house using an absolutely gorgeous brand-new Glamourween kit from ETC by Danyale…it’s so new that it’s not even in the shop yet! It’ll arrive on Thursday, September 29. Enjoy your sneak peek, this kit is just fabulous!

Supplies I used:

red line tape

scissors

embossing stylus

Fiskars Paper Trimmer

Licorice Premium Dye Inkpad by ColorBox and Stephanie Barnard

To start, I opened the small milk carton psd file in Photoshop. To create the window, I selected the rectangular marquee tool and drew a rectangle on the template. Then I pressed delete and this created an empty space where I could build my window scene.

I created a clipping mask just a bit larger than the window I created, and clipped one of the damask papers to it to create wallpaper. Then I added the frame, cat, curtains, and candelabra. The cross bars were taken from the birdcage element in the kit.

To achieve the shadowing on the window, I applied a drop shadow style to the box with a blend mode of Linear Burn, Opacity set at 88%, 45° angle, 0 px distance, 10 % spread, and 44 px size. I clipped the grey stripe paper to the box. Next, I added the iron fence to all sides of the box. Then I added the broom and zebra pumpkin just outside of the window.

The best way to create the roof is to make a clipping mask that is 4″ high x 2.5″ wide. These measurements allow for a 1/2″ overhang at the bottom. I goofed and ended up piecing mine together. Learn from my mistake!

I printed the canvas onto Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper. Next, I cut out the milk carton using both my Fiskars paper trimmer and my scissors.

I used the embossing stylus to score along the fold marks. I added red line tape to the edge of the template and then adhered the edges together to join the sides of the box together.

I folded the bottom of the box together by following the instructions that are included in the Milk Carton Template Set.

Because I wanted a flat roof line, I added more red line tape to the inside edges of the milk carton. This action seals the box for good, but you can still fill it with treats by unfolding the bottom of the box.

I folded the edges together and then folded them down toward the back of the box. I added more red line tape to the outer edge to keep it down.

Now it looks less like a milk carton and more like a little house, which is exactly the look I’m trying to achieve.

If I had used one rectangular roof piece that was 4″ x 2.5″, I would have scored the roof in the middle and 1/2″ in from each short end but instead I had to attach the two roof pieces to the top of the milk carton. I again used red line tape. Finally, I used a sponge to apply black ink to the edges of my spooky house.

I really like how it turned out. I can see quite a bit of potential in using this milk carton template for other houses – a gingerbread house for Christmas, a flower shoppe for spring, and a school house in September!

If you use this template to make a house of your own, be sure to leave a link to your gallery so I can check it out!

Hi, it’s Bonnie from p i n k b o n b o n s, popping in with my first Design Team post for the DIGICHICK and I’m so super excited to be here!!

I love everything at the Digichick so it was hard picking something to make with so much to choose from!

I decided on this cute little pumpkin Box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff. I love little boxes and this is awesome!! I did a little matching card/tag! Enjoy!

Supplies needed:

Pumpkin Box Template

Karen Lewis – Subway Style2 Wordart

Twine

Flowers to decorate

1. First I cut out the pumpkin box lid, bottom and the label using my cutting machine and the svg files, these files can all be cut by hand if you do not have a cutting machine.

2. I then started to put the box lid together with double sided sticky tape.

3. It should look like this when put together. (I then added some twine through the little slit in the top and tied the twine in a knot underneath).

4. I then just repeated steps 1 & 3 to put together the bottom of the box and you then have your pumpkin box ready to decorate! I added some S Jones – Pretty Practical Papers to the top of the lid, cut out by hand.

5. I then punched a hole through some paper blossoms and threaded onto my twine for decoration.

6. Now for the card tag, I just rounded the corners of the printed subway art and adhered it to the cut out label with foam tape for a bit of dimension. To finish the tag, I punched a hole and added some twine!

Here's a rustic, Fall birdhouse and matching mini card that's perfect for your home or office decor! It can even make a great gift topper and is easily adaptable to any season or holiday!

I have a great project for you today that is easily adaptable to any season or holiday. It’s a great little decorative birdhouse for your home or office!

I wanted to make something fun and masculine for my grandfather who is 92 and staying in a nursing home while he recovers from an illness. He loves animals, nature and birds, so this is the perfect little project to spruce up his room and hopefully make him smile!

Here’s what you’ll need…

Sweet Bird House Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Flea Market Finds Designer Kit by Etc. by Danyale

Ink for distressing edges

Bird die cut

Twine

Scissors, adhesive, scoring tool, hole punch

Start by printing the decorative papers you want to use from your kit and run them through the printer a second time to print the template on them. Since I am using two different papers for the house and the top and bottom, I printed the template on both. The template on white paper here is just for you to see how it prints out on the paper.

Then, print out any of the elements you want to use to decorate the bird house, cut them out and ink the edges for an aged feel.

Assemble the birdhouse by scoring the lines and adding adhesive to the tabs. Ink the edges of the roof and base and attach them to the house.

Add your elements to the birdhouse. I added the green frame, a button, the corners, a butterfly and a real button tied with some twine on the front.

I stamped the little tag with the word ‘Tweet’, tied on some twine and unraveled the edges.

Here’s a matching little gift card using the same papers from the kit. I cut out this bird with my die, inked the edges of the wing and popped it up with a pop dot. A sweet little sentiment and a little twine bow finish it off nicely!

Here’s the finished set. Remember, you can make one for every season and use it to decorate your room or office. I think I’ll be making another one for an upcoming birthday in our family. It will sit right on top of her gift!

Now it’s your turn to make one. If you do, please share it with us in the gallery!

It’s time for a challenge here at The Hybrid Chick, don’t ya think?

The Hybrid Chick is excited to announce that the ever-popular Cupcake Shaped Box Template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs has been “refrosted” (reworked just a bit!) to make the top a bit fluffier, just as a yummy homemade cupcake should be!

Other updates include the addition of cutting files for your digital die cut machine (in AI, DXF, SVG, PNG and JPG formats) and cleaner, less noticeable scoring lines for more traditional papercrafters.

The original template was fabulous, but the updated version is ten times better!

Do you see the difference?
