Want to learn how to make a really quick and easy pendant for your Mom or other special lady in your life with your digital supplies? Join me and see how easy it is!

If you know me, you know I like to make homemade gifts – especially those I can use my digital supplies on.

Today I am going to show you how to take a pendant from your local craft store and turn it into a piece of jewelry your Mom will love (or you may like it so much you will want to keep it for yourself)!

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

Digital papers/embellishments – I used a kit from Jennifer Labre coming out this Thursday, May 6th at The Digichick.

Scissors/Paper Cutter

Diamond Glaze Adhesive

1 inch by 1 inch pendant and chain

Toothpick or pin

First, I came up with the design I wanted on the pendant using my photo-editing software. I chose a light purple background, a darker purple for the edge, and a flower all from Jennifer’s kit and then printed it off on to cardstock. I then cut it out and placed it into the pendant.

Then I took the Diamond Glaze Adhesive and applied that to the area inside the pendant and over the paper.

Bubbles formed so I just took a toothpick and popped them. Some were a little pesky so I took both the toothpick and a pin and popped them.

Then it was time for the glaze to dry. When it was finally set, I put it on to the chain I picked out and voila – a beautiful necklace for Mom!

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made the pendant for my Mom. I can definitely see making more in the future – it was a very easy and an enjoyable process, especially knowing I can make them with my digital supplies!

Happy scrapping and crafting!

Jackie

Hey everyone, Laura here! This is my first official post here on The Hybrid Chick blog!! Let’s get started shall we? There are a ton of different ways to create jewelry using hybrid! In fact, we’ve even featured a few techniques here on THC. Today I will teach you how to alter a store bought locket and make it YOURS! Come on in, the water is nice and warm!

First, the supplies I used are:

Heart Locket

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Mari Koegelenberg’s Dotty Gels Alpha in Black

Fashion Plate Collab by TDC Designers

Mod Podge

Cutterbee scissors or an exacto knife

Paint brush

Triple Thick OR Diamond Glaze

Now that I’ve got all my supplies ready, I started by taking off the original embellishment on the heart locket. In this case it was an acrylic sticker and was super easy to remove. I just used my exacto knife to get underneath it and lifted it off.

After I’ve removed it, I have just a plain metal locket. A perfect canvas to work with! Now here comes the somewhat tedious part. In photoshop, I used the heart shape and clipped my pictures to them. I measured (roughly) how big the locket was. Then, I made my pictures to size and printed them out. I would suggest making duplicates of each picture in case you mess up you can just start a new one!

I very carefully started to cut out my heart shaped pictures. It doesn’t really matter if they are overlapping because you can always go back after its’ glued and cut the edges off.

After I cut out all my hearts, it’s time to glue them to the locket! I used some mod podge to glue them on and then cut off the overlapping edges to make sure it was a snug fit. After that was done, I went back over and put a layer of mod podge back over the pictures so that they won’t bleed when putting on the triple thick or diamond glaze!

Take the other end of the brush and really go over it a few times to make sure it’s really stuck!

OKAY! Almost there! Now all you have to do is apply the triple thick or diamond glaze to the top of the locket for a nice glaze finish! You can do this with a soft (small) brush and if you have any air bubbles, you can use a toothpick or a coarse bristle brush to get them out. Let it sit for at least 24 hours before handling to make sure the glaze has set! So now, guess what?? YOU’RE DONE! Yay! It is really simple and makes for a perfect gift for a child or grandmother, mother etc. This particular one I made was for my little girl when she started school!

I had a ton of fun making this and I hope you will too!

Embellish store bought hairclips with some cute paper and buttons and be the envy of everyone! ;)

The joy of having a girl is to have someone to dress up in cute girly clothes and a sweet hairdo… not so in my case! lol! My dd HATES having her hair done so it is fun doing a project like this that makes her feel special and ‘motivates’ her to wear something in her hair.

Plus it is a very special and unique gift to any Girly Girl at heart! You can do just a few or with the help of a Die-Cutting Machine you can do a large production line.

Remember you don’t need a Die-Cutting machine to complete this project…explore some of the Default Shapes in your photo editing program to use as a clipping mask for your digital papers.

Let us gather our supplies for this fun project…

STEP 1:

In your photo editing program open up a new 8×10 inch document @ 300dpi. You can use a 8.5×11 inch document if you have a borderless printer. I resized the paper’s I wanted to use to 6×6 inches and arranged them on my document till I had 4 blocks sized 4×5 inches each. Print out your final document on Matte Photo Paper.

Following the directions for your Die-Cutting Machine cut out your shapes at about 1 inch – 1.5 inches sizes.

Just look at that…doesn’t it just look adorable? I must confess that these papers are just so cute and fun to work with! They are definetely worth adding to your stash…they are perfect for cards and any hybrid project you can think of!

STEP 2:

Apply Mod Podge to your flowers one at a time and manipulate them while they are wet to curl them into petal shapes. Be Careful to not smudge the ink!

Let them dry thoroughly. They will retain their shape thanks to the Mod Podge.

Heat up your glue gun and be sure to use the low temperature gun so as not to burn yourself, if you dont have one use any good strong Craft Glue.

Layer your flowers onto the end of the hairclip and glue them together using the glue gun. Add a Button as a final touch.

And there you have it… cute unique girly clips and girl would be proud to wear! Although I had to bribe mine to take a photo!

I love when I find something unique and beautiful that I can use in my crafting … my eyes are always open for items that I can alter, reuse, or turn into something special. On a recent trip to Texas to visit my girlfriend, we were out shopping (of course) and we wandered through many cute boutiques filled with handcrafted items. In one of them I found an item that immediately caught my eye – the Storyville Scrapbooking Bracelet by Lucky Feather. I HAD to have it!!

I’m an accessory loving girl and the idea of a bracelet with darling charms that I could put my own photos in was a dream come true. Not only was the bracelet beautiful but it came with instructions and all of the supplies I would need to complete it. The best part? It was made to be EASY to put together!! Who doesn’t love a quick, easy, beautiful craft?

I started by looking at what was included in the package – the bracelet has 5 charms that are double-sided so you can capture 10 images. Also included is a sheet of Storyville art images from letters to greetings to pictures that you can use to complete your bracelet (I chose to use all of my own images). Finally, the clear bubble stickers that go over the images to magnify and protect them as well as the adhesive squares that attach your images to the bracelet are also included.

They’ve even made it easy to get your photos to be the right size for the charms! Choose your photos and head to www.luckyfeather.com to use their Easy Shrinker! From there you create a free account, enter the barcode from your product, and get ready to upload!

I created several images using Our Story from Kelley Mickus and Stamp the Date – Vol. 2 from Mira Designs – both available at The Digichick. I started by making my images 6×6 inches so I could use them for a mini album later … gotta love multi-tasking The only thing to be aware of when creating your own images is that you need to leave everything larger than you normally would on a scrapbook page. These will be shrunk down to about 1/2 inch so small typeface may not show up. I found I was most happy with the ones where I used large photos, larger, more simple type, and few embellishments. I also decided to use a few photos without “dressing them up.”

Once I had my images complete I headed online to upload my photos to the Easy Shrinker. Click to upload your photos, resize using the -/+ buttons, rotate, change color (b&w or sepia), preview, and save images. I found that I reduced my 6×6 pages to about 7% scale. The little “guideline” square that they give you is just a touch larger than the clear bubble stickers so I made my images just smaller than the guideline. Resizing your photos will depend on how you want them cropped. I think I reduced mine to about 50% scale. After you have resized all of your images and saved them it is time to print!

You can print on your home printer or request a free print sent to your home (U.S. residents only). Once you print you will have a sheet with all of your images shrunk to the perfect size for your bracelet … COOL (and so easy)!! The rest of it is the fun stuff Take your bubble stickers and place them right on top of each of your images. Not only do the bubble stickers protect your images but they also magnify them! I love this concept. I made a keychain once using a liquid medium to achieve the same protection and look that the bubble stickers gives and it was much messier (and got air bubbles in it) … so glad to see the bubble stickers used – easy and mess-free! *bubble stickers will protect from splashes and everyday wear but should not be submerged.

After you have covered your images with the bubble stickers it is time to trim. Putting the bubble stickers on first makes this incredibly easy because now all you have to do is trim around the bubble! Trim each image to size and set aside.

Next place a sticky square inside each charm. Peel the backing and place your images onto the adhesive. It’s that easy!! I love how simple Lucky Feather has made this jewelry making process!!! I can’t wait to give my girlfriend this bracelet for her birthday next week – it contains photos from the day her baby was born last year and more current photos. I know she will just love it and I love that I could make such a unique and personal gift in a snap

How would you like to be able to make your own jewelry to match any outfit you want. Wouldn't you like to be able to use some of these adorable digital scrapbooking elements and make them into something to wear. Let me show you how!

I was looking for a fun new project to do and while I was surfing around I came across this site with Photo Jewelry. It was so cute and looked easy. Then I thought how cute these jewelry pieces would be made with digital scrapbooking goodies! So, that’s what I did!

Supplies I used:

Jewelry Making kit from photojewelrymaking.com, the kits have every thing you need included! (Check it out, they have TONS of cute ideas!)

Digital Scrapbooking Kit, or photo

Photo Editing software, or the Software that comes with the Jewelry kit!

A printer and photo paper, (paper came in the kit too)

The first thing I did is get out your piece of jewelry, measure the size wear your image will go. Or use the software that came in the kit, it has all the sizes listed!

Open a new file in PS the size you need, choose your image. I used some super cute elements from Our Story by, Kelley Mickus Designs and Vibrant Memories by, Pri Rocha. You can find both at The Digi Chick!

Design your piece, save it and print it out. I did a test print on regular paper and cut it out to make sure it fit in my pendant. Then print it out on your photo paper.

Cut it out and glue it into the pendant with a touch of super glue (that comes in the kit too). Now comes the fun part!

Get out your clear coating and activator, mix equal parts. Stir, slowly to avoid air bubbles.

Pour the coating on your piece, place on a flat surface and protect from dust.

Now you just let it sit there, undisturbed for 24 hours.

It will harden up nice and shiny, and it’s ready to wear!

Here are the two I made!

So, what do you think? Do you like them….well…if you do, you are in luck! To celebrate NSD, we are giving them away! Yes, we are!

All you have to do is leave a comment in this post for a chance to win! We will pick two random winners by Midnight EST on Sunday, May 3rd to have these fun necklaces.

Want another entry for this giveaway? Mention it on your blog, Facebook or Twitter with a link to this post and you can be entered again. Just leave us another comment for each thing you do with a link to your post or Tweet.

Are you looking for the perfect accessory or need a quick & simple gift for a friend? This glass tile pendant is super-fun, easy and a great way to use your digital stash! Make a monogrammed necklace for a friend, or make one for yourself to match your new summer digs!

I just loved all the gorgeous tile pendant necklaces that I had been seeing on etsy and couldn’t wait to try my hand at making one of my own! The process is super-simple and the results are awesome! These make fantastic teacher gifts or do what I did and make about 10 or so for yourself to coordinate with all your summer outfits!

The supplies for this project are quite inexpensive and you’ll find yourself wanting to make tons of these sweet pendants for yourself and others. They are so addictive!!

The first thing is to search through your digtal supplies and find some lovely art. I chose a gorgeous paper and flower from Matahati’s Spring Medley kit. I opened these in Photoshop and created a canvas for myself the same size as my glass tile (1×1 inch). After adjusting the sizes of my paper and flower to fit my 1×1 square, I printed and was ready to get crafty!

Let’s gather our supplies for the pendant. You’ll need:

1×1 inch glass tile and bail (I purchased mine on etsy – do a supplies search for glass tiles)

Judikins Diamond Glaze

exacto knife & self-healing mat

E-6000 Adhesive or other adhesive

your printed image

Step 1: Apply a thin coat of Diamond Glaze to the back side of your glass tile. The back side is somewhat textured and the front is smooth – - you’ll notice a difference. Once you’ve applied the Diamond Glaze, place your printed image on the tile FACE DOWN. Press the paper down well and be certain that there are not any bubbles in your glaze. I like to flip my tile right side up and smoosh it onto my work surface to be sure that the Diamond Glaze has gotten all the way to the edge of the tile and that there are no air pockets. Allow to dry (face down – you don’ t want that little sucker drying onto your counter, now do you?).

Step 2: Once your glue has dried, you’ll want to trim any overhang from the sides of your tile. Now you could trim that up before you glued your image to the tile, but I like doing it this way I use an exacto knife and my trusty self-healing mat. That poor thing has seen better days.

Step 3: If there was to be a tricky part in this process, this step is it. It’s not hard, though, so don’t fret. Next, you want to cover the back side of your tile with Diamond Glaze to seal the image. I do this by applying a nice bead of glaze all around the tile and then filling that in, working from outside in. If you get any little bubbles, which is apt to happen, you can use a toothpick to remove them, or just drag them to the edge of the tile with the applicator tip. A few small bubbles don’t bother me much, but you’ll want to be sure that you get rid of any large ones.

Step 4: After your Diamond Glaze has been applied, allow the tile to dry overnight. I usually put mine in the toaster oven so that no dust or little “helping” hands get on my tile. Some people simply cover the tile with a cup to protect it.

Step 5: Once you’re sure that your tile has completely dried, apply the bail to the back side of the tile with a wee bit of E6000.

Step 6: Admire your handiwork & get ready for the compliments!!
