Learn how Debbie used a template from Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs and some digital paper from Quirky Twerp to make a quick and elegant present for someone who is feeling under the weather!

Recently, I found out that a special friend of mine from my monthly book club has been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease. I decided to make her a special gift hoping to lift her spirits but I wanted the gift to be practical, too. So while looking around the Digichick Boutique, I stumbled onto a few items I thought would fit my needs.

Since this friend of mine is an avid reader, I thought a bookmark would be good. But not just one bookmark because I know since she has been housebound that reading is something she is doing alot of. Plus I wanted to give her something she could give to those helping her out during this illness. I thought she could write a note on the back of a bookmark/tag thanking that person for helping her. Using the digital elements really made this project easy and fun!

Here are all the supplies I used:

Fabrications Classic Scrapbook Pack – Quirky Twerp

Easter Basket Template Set - Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs – print Large template onto dark gray cardstock and cut out.

Loves’ Flower Clear Stamp set – Verve Stamps

gray ink pad, sponge, Ivory Organdy ribbon, black rick rack, Scor-pal, Scor-tape

Jumbo Classic Scallop Borderabilities – Spellbinders Paper Arts

I made the basket from some heavy gray cardstock. After assembly, I cut 4 pieces of patterned paper that I printed out onto white cardstock. I used the Fabrications Patterned paper #2. Using a sponge, I added some gray ink around the edges to give it the vintage look that goes with this paper pack.

After adhering the sides into place on the basket, I cut/embossed the handle using my Wizard die cutting machine and the Classic Jumbo Borderabilities Petite die template. This die makes a perfect handle for a basket!

Then I printed out the tags I wanted onto white cardstock and cut them out by hand. Using the sponge, I added ink around the edges. Then I stamped the sentiment using the same gray ink. I love how this sentiment looks on the tag, don’t you?

After I tied the ribbon into place, I used my Heat Embossing gun to “crinkle” my ribbon. It doesn’t take much heat and it is easy to do but don’t heat the ribbon for too long or it will burn. (Ask me how I know!)

Here is my completed project. I think my friend will really like this special gift! Hopefully I will put a smile on her face!

The end of the school year is upon us! For a lot of students that means graduation - pre-school graduation, kindergarten graduation, high school graduation and college graduation. Today I'm going to show you how to create a graduation cap gift box.

One of my most favorite things to do is to take a template and use it for something other than it’s original suggested use. And today’s post is no different.

Today I’m going to show you how to take Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Canister Box template set, flip it over and turn it into a graduation cap gift box.

But wait….not only is this gift box a super sweet and fun way to give a gift, but it also makes a great table centerpiece for that graduation party you are giving!

For the graduate, you could fill the box with a small gift or money.

As a table centerpiece, it could hold candy kisses, nuggets, M&M’s or anything else you can think of.

So let’s get started with our supply list:

Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Canister Box Template Set – I used the short canister template

computer paper to print the template on

black cardstock – I used cardstock from Stampin’ Up!

adhesive of choice

black brad

embroidery floss

1. Open Kelleigh’s short canister file in your photo editing program.

2. Hide all layers of the template except for the lines.

3. Print the template on computer paper – this will be your pattern to trace around on the black cardstock. Unless you have a printer with a white cartridge, you will be unable to print directly onto the black cardstock.

4. Open the canister bottom file – hide all layers of the template except for the lines.

5. Resize the canister bottom to 96%. This will allow the piece to fit inside of the canister.

6. Print the canister bottom on computer paper – again this will be our pattern to trace around.

7. Cut around the printed canister – I cut out the connecting center sections of the template as they won’t be needed.

8. Cut around the printed canister bottom.

9. Position the computer paper canister and bottom template on the black cardstock and trace around the edges using a pencil. It may be a little hard to see but totally worth not having white gel pen lines showing on the black cardstock. Cut out the black cardstock canister and canister bottom.

10. Score all canister and bottom score lines.

11. Assemble box by gluing the tab on one side of template to the inner side of the other side of the template to form canister. Fold tabbed pieces inward and secure with adhesive of your choice. (See Kelleigh’s instructions included in canister template)

12. Cut a 5 x 5 inch square piece of black cardstock. Punch a hole in the center of square – I used my paper piercing tool. Center and adhere canister bottom on square. Punch hole through canister bottom piece.

To Create a tassel:
13. To create a tassel, wrap white embroidery floss around a 2 1/4 inch strip of firm cardstock or cardboard approx. 20-25 times. The more times you wrap the floss, the thicker your tassel will be. Holding the floss, cut it along one edge of the cardstock/cardboard.

14. Using a long piece of floss, tie a square knot against the bunched floss. These long pieces will become the string that the tassel hangs from.

15. Fold the bunched floss in half to form a tassel and tie a small piece of embroidery floss approx. 1/2 inch from the fold and then hide the tied knot in the center among the longer tassel pieces.

16. Put the top of the graduation hat on the canister. Hold the tassel by the long strands of floss at the center of the black square and shorten the hanging length of the tassel to what you desire.

note: if the above steps to make a tassel didn’t make sense, just google “make your own tassel” and you’ll find lots of instructions and photos!

17. Secure tassel in place with a black brad.

18. Put the top on your graduation cap box tucking rounded tabs to the inside of the cannister.

And there you have it, your very own graduation cap box – ready to fill with goodies!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and project. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask here in the comment section. I’d love to see your version of this graduation box!

Hi all! I made a set of shabby/vintage looking project that is perfect for a sweet friend using Quirky Twerp’s gorgeous Bohemian Rhapsody kit and Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs’ Top Heavy Box template. With the help of Quirky Twerp’s beautiful kit, this project came together pretty quickly.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Papertrey Ink, Neenah Classic Solar White

Digital kits: Bohemian Rhapsody by Quirky Twerp, Top Heavy Box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Stamps: B Line Designs (bird image), Papertrey Ink (sentiment)

Inks: Memento Rich Cocoa, Tim Holtz Distress Ink

Markers: Copic

Patterned paper: Jenni Bowlin

Buttons, silk ribbons: Papertrey Ink

Dies: Spellbinders

Die cutting machine: Cuttlebug

I first printed the template on a plain printer paper then used removable adhesive to attach it to the printed patterned paper. I then carefully cut out the box and assembled it according to the instruction. After the box was done, I inked all the edges with Tim Holtz’s distress inks in tattered rose and vintage photo to add a little aged look.

I then trimmed the other pretty patterned papers that I printed out from the Bohemian Rhapsody kit to the sizes that I wanted. Then inked the edges with tattered rose, tea dye and victorian velvet distress inks then distressed all the edges with a paper distresser. The stamped bird image from B Line Designs was stamped with Memento Rich Cocoa ink then colored with my Copic markers. After die cutting it using Spellbinder’s Lebels Nine die, I inked edges with tattered rose and vintage photo distress inks.

I also inked the silk ribbon with some tea dye distress ink. The sentiment stamp is from Papertrey Ink and the sentiment tag is also cut using a Spellbinders die then inked with distress inks.

I made the paper flowers using some music sheet papers by Jenni Bowlin a little while ago. After inking them with some more distress inks, I decided to use them to tie the two projects together. Both flowers were decorated with stacked buttons strung with silk ribbons.

With a little inking on the paper edges, the shabby/vintage look is easy to achieve. Hope my project has inspired you to create a hybrid shabby project! =)

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions if you have any, I will do my best to help!

Today I’ll be showing you just how I made this cute gift box that’s just perfect for anyone who loves to read!

Supplies used:

4×6 Prints box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs (The Digichick)

Small composition notebook (Staples)

Scor-Tape

Ink and sponge

Polar Matte Double sided paper (Red River Paper)

PSE 6

Detail scissors

Scor-Pal

Scalloped circle punch

Stamps and ink ( Take Note from Papertrey Ink)

Foam tape

<p align=center">>

To start off my project I opened the print box and the digital paper I wanted to use in Photoshop Elements. I clipped the paper to the box and printed it off.

I put my paper back into the printer to print on the back side, as that would be the interior of the box. The Polar Matte Double Sided paper is so great for that, and it’s a good weight for projects too!

While I was still at the computer, I opened and resized two of the elements from the kit to serve as bookplates. I added the text “This book belongs to” on each element, copied them four times onto my blank document and printed them off. After printing, I cut each out with my scissors and inked the edges to hide any imperfections from cutting. I added a piece of Scor-Tape to the back of each bookplate… this will add the recipient’s name permanently to her favorite books. I also cut, scored and assembled my box at this time.

My next step was to put together the mini notebook. I used some more digital papers from the same kit that I had printed to cover the front and back of the notebook. I was able to adhered it very securely using Scor-Tape and I then I went back around to cut closely to the sides.

At this point I also inked the edges of the paper on the notebook. To add the last touch, I stamped and cut out a scalloped circle to title the notebook.

I think this is a fun gift for any mom who likes to read and who may loan books out. Using the bookplates, she can ensure that the books will get returned! I put the notebook and bookplates into the box, and a gift card to a favorite book store could easily be added or a bookmark.

Don’t forget to tie a pretty bow around the box to show your mom how much you care!

In today's Designer Spotlight we are taking a look at some of the beautiful patterned papers made by SarahJ that you can find in the Boutique. Come on in and see them in action! We know you'll love them!

Hello, everyone! Today on The Hybrid Chick, our Designer Spotlight is shinning on the talented Sarah Jones and her YUMMY papers.

Sarah is not afraid of using color. She has a real eye for mixing them up together in a way that makes for a harmonious collection. When you’re making a kit and you have a color palette you like, it’s not always possible to get each one to play nice together. But Sarah seems to have a real gift for pairing up colors!

And she certainly a fan of adding lots of wonderful patterns to her paper packs–which is something you need in the Hybrid World! I know I’m not going to use a plain paper to make a project… that’s what I have all that cardstock in my stash for. Ha! So, I know that when I need something fun and bold and playful, Sarah’s papers are going to be a perfect fit!

Here’s a peek at some of Sarah’s fabulous kits and paper packs to give you a taste of what I mean (images are linked, so you can take a closer look):

One of my favorite things that I’ve seen made with Sarah’s fabulous papers were posted here on this blog! Mari wrote an article about a set of Hybrid Hairclips she made for her daughter with Sarah’s Pish Posh paper pack. Here’s a snapshot of Mari’s adorable creation:

And when I was browsing around in the gallery, I found this adorable basket made by Hybrid Chick Julie out of Sarah’s Girls Rule, Boys Drool paper pack. I love how bold and bright and just-plain-fun this basket is in these “non-traditional” (or “non-pastel”) colors:

And I’ve always loved this star that Kelleigh made with her awesome Star Spangled template and Sarah’s retired paper packs… (just had to show you what a perfect fit Sarah’s papers are here it was—this project is still one of my favorites. I have to try making this star someday!):

Now, when I thought about what I’d like to make with Sarah’s papers, I thought of my daughter, Katie, who’s seven and loves pink! So, I picked Sarah’s Pretty Little Buds collection for my project. I also used Kelleigh’s Matchbox template to create a set of little “treasure boxes” for Katie to use… a place for her to keep all her little goodies in her nightstand, especially those things that she might not want her baby having. Everyone needs a place to put their little treasures, right?

Here’s what I made for her:

I punched a hole in the middle of each box and then took some ribbon and knotted it on both sides to make a little “drawer pull” for my daughter’s little fingers to grab (and to hopefully help keep the box intact by giving her something other than the edge of the lid to pull on). It’s the perfect size for her collection of necklaces and rings and other tiny playthings. And she’s thrilled! I even let her pick what papers she wanted, which was just delightful for her (she’s a real crafter, that one!). I loved how Kelleigh’s template was set up to let you pick different papers for the top and sides of your box. We came up with some great combinations from Sarah’s paper pack. Fun, fun!

I hope you enjoyed the inspiration here today! And I hope you enjoy trying some of Sarah’s wonderful prints for yourself the next time you’re making something special! You will not be disappointed. They are a real treat!

It's that time of the year again! Teacher Appreciation week is soon upon us! Come see how you can make a great gift for your child's Teacher using Kelleigh's Flutter Top Box template and your traditional cardmaking supplies.

Hello everyone!

My name is Debbie Seyer and I am a new member of The Hybrid Chick team! I am new to the Hybrid world of paper crafting and the only die cutting machine I own is The Wizard™.

I hope you will come along with me on this journey of the wonders of Hybrid/Digital paper crafting!

I am excited to show you what I created using Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s template called Flutter Top Box. I am a mother to 3 school aged girls so teacher gifts are a must to show MY appreciation for all they do.

Using the Flutter Top Box template, I printed it onto heavy cardstock.

After cutting these out, I placed each one on my scoring tool and scored the dashed lines.

After prefolding along all scored lines, I layered some patterned paper onto the box sides. The patterned paper I used is from October Afternoon 8×8″ paper pad called Fly A Kite.

Using some Zip Dry Paper Glue (by Beacon Adhesives), I glued the side flap into place to make the first part of the box. Now all you have to do is fold together the bottom. For this particular box, I put a few dots of glue to hold it all into place.

For the top of the box, I prefolded the scored lines and then used a hole punch for each flap. Then I threaded ribbon thru all 4 holes.

Then I tied my ribbon into a bow on top of the box. That way the recipient of this box will be able to untie the box and open the box from the top. If you choose, you could glue the box shut on top and fold the flaps on the bottom of the box so that it could be opened that way, too.

Once I tied this bow, I printed out my tag onto white cardstock. Using Labels 7 Nestabilities™, I cut/embossed the tag. Then added the cute strawberry die cut and tied this to the box using linen thread.

I think my daughter’s teacher will love this filled with her favorite chocolates! Hope you found this to be a great idea for another Teacher Appreciation gift!

With Teacher Appreciation week quickly approaching, some of us Hybrid Chicks got together and have planned a week full of teacher gift ideas and projects. Join me as I kick off the week with a fun note card set packaged in a backpack!

Teachers are rarely recognized for all they do. As Teacher Appreciation week approaches as well, for some of us, the end of the school year; why not get a head start on some gifts! I have a fun one to kick off this week.

Teachers receive all kinds of gifts, from gift cards to chocolates. All those items are great, but why not give them something they’re always in need of…Thank You cards and/or note cards!

Using Melissa Wilsons and MKC’s Back to School – Backpack Album, I came up with this note card holder.

Here’s what you’ll need to make one of your own:

Melissa Wilsons and MKC’s Back to School – Backpack Album

Card Stock ~ Red for the backpack and white for the note cards

Pattern Paper

Sewing Machine

Rubber Stamps

Ink

Ribbon

Brad

Double Sided Tape

Eyelets

Crop-a-Dile

Step 1:Print out backpack on pattern paper as well as Journaling card to use for note cards. Once you print them out, cut them out and you should end up with something like this (this is the inside of the backpack.

Step 2: OPTIONAL ~ At this point if you’d like to add some sewing do so. I ran each piece through my sewing machine to give the edges a bit more interest. Here’s what the front looks like when done.

Step 3: Assemble the backpack and set it aside to work on the closure. I wanted to used magnets as closure but being that they’re so ugly, I wanted to hide them. I used a ribbon flower and a flower I punched out of card stock to do just that. You can use any decorative item that might hide the magnets. Here’s what mine look like.

Step 4: Adhere them to the backpack as well as some eyelets in order to thread some ribbon~ this ribbon becomes the straps of the backpack as well as the handle on top. Here’s a view of the back of the backpack.

Step 5: Decorate the front as you’d like. I added a stamped image with some embellishments, the flower closure with magnets, and this is what the front looks like.

Step 6: To hide the ribbon ends on the inside, use card stock to cover up the middle of the backpack.

Step 7: Add a piece of double-sided tape to adhere the ribbon that will tie all the note cards together. Here’s what it looks like.

Step 8: After you adhered the ribbon, put it aside to work on the note cards. Print out some journaling cards from the same kit to use as backgrounds for the note cards. Here’s what the document looks like.

Step 9:Cut out the journaling cards, add some stamped images and/or sentiments and assemble your card. You can pretty much make them however you want, here’s what mine look like.

Step 10: Put note cards and envelopes and place them inside the back pack in the middle of the ribbon you prepared earlier. Tie them up and you’re done! Here’s what the inside looks like assembled.

Here again is a photo of the finished project.

Hope this inspires to start creating a fun packaging for the teacher(s) in your childrens’ lives!

Make sure to stop by tomorrow for another inspiring teacher gift!

This is a very involved tutorial not for the faint of heart but the results are worth it!

This is a very involved and complicated tutorial but when you have mastered this and you have the template file all set up, it will make mass production of super cute boxes like the Cupcake Box I used as an example a breeze! So all the effort will be worth it! Trust me!

I just want to add a disclaimer that since Printers, Die-cutting Machines and their Software all differ I cannot guarantee the results but I recommend adapting this tutorial to your specific circumstances.

I recently became the proud owner of a Cricut Expression. Now as a hybrid crafter it was not long before I saw the amazing possibilities of incorporating digital designs with my digital die-cutting machine. One great feature about the Silhouette Cutter is the ability to do a Print and Cut (i.e. Print a Digital Design and using your Die-cutting Machine to cut out the shape). The Cricut does not have this capability but after stumbling across this Tutorial by Kay Hall I started thinking on how to work around this feature. The method she described is wonderful and works like a bomb but I have found that for more intricate cuts the following method works better.

You will need the following supplies:

Photo Editing Software

Vector Drawing Program (Inkscape is a free version and can be downloaded HERE)

Digital Die-cutter and compatible software.

Cupcake Box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Fresh Cut – the Collection a TDC Collaboration

Polar Matte Photo Paper by Red River

Metal Ruler

Bone Folder

Embellishments (Flowers and Buttons)

STEP 1

Open up your Template in your Photo Editing Software. Select the layer that has the complete template. Adjust that layer so it is black. I used my levels function and just moved the black triangle all the way to the right.

Make sure just the black box is visible and flatten the image and save as JPEG.

STEP 2

Open up your Vector Drawing Program and the JPEG you just created. Trace your image.

Here is a quick tutorial for Inkscape users – Tracing.

I used Illustrator’s default settings.

You will notice there are 2 paths in your layers palette. One is the bounding box around the image and the other is the actual path. Select the bounding box and delete it.

You should have only one path in your layers palette as shown here.

Save as SVG to use in Die-cutting Software, or use the format specified for your specific cutter.

STEP 3

Copy (CTRL+C) the Path and Paste (CTRL+V) it into your template file in your Photo Editing Software.

Paste as Smart Object…if you select that option you can double click on the icon and edit the path in Illustrator.

STEP 4

Before I start clipping my papers to the template I need to do a few more things. I select all the layers I wish to use for this template and the Smart Object/Path I just pasted in the document.

Then I resize them. You will see in a minute why I need to do this. I used 95% x95%.

I then select Image – Trim. Click OK.

Next I select Image – Image Size. Write down the Width and Height of your template in inches.

Select UNDO (CTRL+Z). Save this document as a .PSD/Layered File in a new location/a different name, do not overwrite your original template.

STEP 5

Select EDIT – Preferences – Units and Rulers and set the Rulers to Inches.

Next select View and make sure Rulers are ticked/selected. Then also enable Grid by going to View – Show – Grid.

STEP 6

Make sure all the layers you have selected in STEP 4 is still active/selected. Create a Horizontal and Vertical Guide in your document at the following coordinates: x: 0.5 inches and y: 0.5 inches. Be sure to write down these values too. To create a guide use your Move Tool and drag from the Ruler area in the top or left area of your document.

With your active layers move them so the top left corner of the bounding boxes align with the guides on your document. Zoom in as close as possible to make sure your layers are placed accurately.

STEP 7

Move the Smart Object/Path down in your layers palette so it is beneath all your layers you wish to customize. Add a stroke by either clicking on the Functions – Stroke or in PSE select Edit – Stroke. Set the size to 20px…the color does not matter.

Right click on the style icon in your layers palette and select create layer. Clip your paper to this layer and hide the Smart Object/Path. Decorate your template as desired. Your final image will be slightly larger than the resized template but this is just to ensure there is a margin for error.

STEP 8

I prefer to add a Crop mark so I don’t have to eyeball it too much! Select your basic brushes and the 1px hard brush and using the guide lines draw a line from the one point to the other to create an almost inverted l shape. Flatten your image and save. Print it out and now we will moving on to our Digital Die-cutter.

STEP 9

Open up your Die-cutting machines compatible software. I use Make the Cut for Cricut. Just a note…although this specific software has an excellent tracing capability built in I prefer to do the tracing in a third party program because I have more control over the final image/path.

Select the correct mat size you will be using.

Insert your SVG File you saved earlier.

Insert the Width and Height values you wrote down in STEP 4. Also make sure your X and Y values correspond to the ones you wrote down.

Save this document since you can re-use this project…you have set everything up now it is time to start cutting and getting your hands dirty!

STEP 10

Make sure your Digital Die-cutting machine is connected to your computer. Place your printed template onto your mat and use the crop marks to align the template for cutting.

Load your mat and start cutting.

As noted before, the downside with this is that it will not always cut 100% perfectly but for the convenience of not picking up scissors and actually cutting it out I am happy to make that concession. Plus as noted before, this is great if you want to do this for mass production (i.e. more than one in my opinion!)

STEP 11

Score and fold your cupcakes. Adhere the cupcake according to instructions.

To add a little ‘fluff’ to the cupcake I roll the top flaps over a round object so they are curly and add some dimension when the cupcake is assembled.

Here is a finished cupcake…so cute!

Step Five: Stick a brad through each layer, and secure the brad of the bottom.

Step Six: Fold each layer up tightly one layer at a time. Be sure to get the first layer super-tight as seen below.

Step Seven: Continue folding the layers until they look like this. Then starting with the bottom circle, unfold each layer loosely to create your flower blossom.

When you are finished with your flower, adhere to your project. In my case, I put it on top of my clover box. Cute, huh?

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope to see some “puffy flowers” out there soon.

Going to a relative's house for Easter this year? Glad you aren't the one cooking this year? How about taking along a sweet little gift for the hostess to show your appreciation....

I love finding new and creative ways to give a little something to someone. My daughter is always asking me to make her something to take to school to give to her favorite teachers. I can tell you, it can be a little stressful coming up with new little gifts!

These cute and easy-to-make “Bag in a Box” treat holders are the perfect way to send some a little something to school! They are a decent size and would easily hold 2 smaller bottles of hand lotion.

Here are the supplies used in my project:
Color Me Eggcited digital kit by simply.scraps and Nikki Epperson

Miscellaneous Hybrid tools used in this project: Epson Matte Presentation paperSizzix Big Shot, Scallop circle and circle nestabilities, Cricut paper cutter, scissors, Tombow Adhesive runner, glue dots, pop dots for dimension, Scoring tool – I used a Scor-Pal, scallop edge punch, white gel pen, brads or eyelets, paper piercing tool, ink for edges, silver gel pen Stampin’ Up! clear buttons, embroidery floss, needle,

1. Open your photo editing program. Create a 5 1/2 x 11 new canvas – this will be the side of your bag. Copy and paste a digital paper of choice onto this canvas. Rotate and resize the paper to your liking. Choose the borderless printing option and print using your printer’s best setting. Cut/trim around edges. Set aside.

2. Create a second 4 1/2 x 4 1/2 blank canvas – this will be the bottom of your bag. Copy and paste a coordinating digital paper onto this canvas. Rotate and resize the paper to your liking. Print using your printer’s best setting. Cut/trim around edges.

3. Create a third 1 x 11 blank canvas – this will be the bottom edge of your bag. Copy and paste a coordinating digital paper onto this canvas. Rotate and resize the paper to your liking. Choose the borderless printing option and print using your printer’s best setting. Cut/trim around edges. Set aside.

4. Score at the 1″ mark along all four sides. Fold and crease. Cut on each vertical score line from the edge in to the horizontal score line (see my photo below).

5. Fold all 4 sides up to form the box and add a strong adhesive to all 4 small squares in the corners and press firmly to the inside surface of your box.

6. Working on the back of your cardstock piece that will form the sides of your bag, find the center of the top edge and punch a half circle. This is where the handles of your bag will be. I used my Big Shot and a small nestability circle die template to cut mine.

7. Adhere the cardstock piece around the sides of the bottom piece using a strong adhesive. Start by lining the front center of your cardstock to the center of a box side, then fold around the corners and overlap in the back – adhere. Leave the top of your bag “rounded” – do not crease.

8. Working with your 1 x 11 piece, use a scallop edge punch along one side. I used my Scor-bug to create a line of holes for faux stitching. I used a white gel pen to doodle a little dot in each of the scallops and to draw the stitching of my faux stitches.

9. Using your Tombow adhesive runner or glue of your choice, apply adhesive to the back of your scalloped border. Starting in the front center of your bag with the center of the border, match up the straight edge of your scalloped piece with the bottom of your bag. Wrap it around bottom of box so that it overlaps on the back.

This is what we have so far:

Now you can also punch your other 1/2 circle at the top by matching up the front of your bag with the back of your bag.

10. Next, using my Big Shot, I cut 2 circles of coordinating paper and then used a smaller sized die to “cut out” the center of my circles. these will form the handles of your bag. Adhere the handles in place – lining them up over top of the 1/2 circle notches at the top. Add a brads or eyelets on each side for extra reinforcement. Eye up where you would like to position your brads and mark on both handles. Use a small hole punch to create the holes for your brads.

11. I create the decoration for my bag by cutting a scallop circle and an inner white circle. I inked the edges of both using silver ink from Stampin’ Up!. I used a paper piercing tool to do a single punch in each of the scallops.

12. Using a silver glitter gel pen, I drew a dash line and dotted pattern around the inner circle.

13. The purple flower was a remnant from an artificial arrangement that I saved. To the center of the flower I added a punched cardstock circle, a large clear button, a smaller punched cardstock circle, and finally a smaller clear button. Using a needle, I threaded white embroidery floss down through the clear buttons and cardstock circles and back out the other hole. Remove the needle and tie the floss in a simple bow. Adhere all these layers on top of the scallop circle and white circle using strong glue.

14. Using my crop-o-dile, I punch large holes on each side of my scallop circle. Add pop dots to the back of your scallop circle cluster. Thread the ribbon through the holes, position on your bag and adjust to your liking. I chose to hold my ribbon in place using a brad through my ribbon on each side. You could tie a knot or bow to hold it there. Trim the ends of your ribbon to your liking.

15. Fill your bag and tie the handles together using ribbon. Trim the end of your ribbon.

There are a lot of different tutorials and templates on the internet for creating these Bags. They can be made for just about any occasion – birthdays, bridal showers, get well gifts, teacher’s gifts – the list goes on and on!

Hope you enjoyed my Easter project and give these bags a try. Explaining how I created mine was a lot harder than actually making the bag!!!

As always, if you have any questions about my project or any other project here at The Hybrid Chick, just leave a message in the comment section or post your question in the Hybrid Section at The Digichick.
