Time for another Hybrid Chick Challenge… this one is all about traveling.

Create ANYTHING hybrid that pertains to travel – a travel journal, a suitcase tag, a hybrid scrap page about a location that you’ve visited – you get the idea. Here’s my project – adding details to Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s 4×6 Print Box to create a mini suitcase for those travel photos!

Supplies:

4×6 Print Box template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Digital papers and images of your choice – I used Kellie Mize’s Iced Latte kit and Quirky Twerp’s Wanderlust Scrap Pack.

Digital imaging program – I used Photoshop

Paper for your print out – I used Red River Paper’s River Linen cardstock – has a fine texture on one side.

Black cardstock

Circle punch – I used 1-1/4″ circle punch from Stampin’ Up!

Cutting & scoring tools and adhesive of choice

Brads and additional elements to embellish your finished project as desired

INSTRUCTIONS

1) In photoshop, overlay the template with the digital papers of your choice. I reduced the opacity of the lines so they were still visible, but not so dark they were distracting. I printed the template with the paper I chose for the inside of my box.

2) Cut along solid lines, score along dashed lines, just as the template says!

3) Add your adhesive and get ready to assemble the box (yes, it’s that fast)

4) I punched 4 1-1/4″ circles from black cardstock, then cut a quarter away from each circle

5) Adhere these to each corner, folding around the edges. I simply matched my cut edges to the edges of the box.

6) Add a handle and you’re done!! I used a strip of black cardstock with gold brads as “fasteners” but used double sided tape to adhere it to the box as I didn’t want the underside of the brads to show.

That’s how easy it is. (Honestly, it took me longer to take & edit the photos of the project than to create the project!). A great “holding box” for those vacation photos that are waiting to be included on your scrapbook page, or given to family and friends.

Now it’s your turn!! Simply create a travel-themed project and post it to the Digichick Hybrid gallery, then add your name and link in the comments on this post – one lucky person will receive a chipboard luggage tag album (hence the travel challenge!). Be sure to come back and leave your comment before midnight Sunday, June 30th (EST) for your chance to win!

Today I’ll be showing you just how I made this cute gift box that’s just perfect for anyone who loves to read!

Supplies used:

4×6 Prints box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs (The Digichick)

Small composition notebook (Staples)

Scor-Tape

Ink and sponge

Polar Matte Double sided paper (Red River Paper)

PSE 6

Detail scissors

Scor-Pal

Scalloped circle punch

Stamps and ink ( Take Note from Papertrey Ink)

Foam tape

<p align=center">>

To start off my project I opened the print box and the digital paper I wanted to use in Photoshop Elements. I clipped the paper to the box and printed it off.

I put my paper back into the printer to print on the back side, as that would be the interior of the box. The Polar Matte Double Sided paper is so great for that, and it’s a good weight for projects too!

While I was still at the computer, I opened and resized two of the elements from the kit to serve as bookplates. I added the text “This book belongs to” on each element, copied them four times onto my blank document and printed them off. After printing, I cut each out with my scissors and inked the edges to hide any imperfections from cutting. I added a piece of Scor-Tape to the back of each bookplate… this will add the recipient’s name permanently to her favorite books. I also cut, scored and assembled my box at this time.

My next step was to put together the mini notebook. I used some more digital papers from the same kit that I had printed to cover the front and back of the notebook. I was able to adhered it very securely using Scor-Tape and I then I went back around to cut closely to the sides.

At this point I also inked the edges of the paper on the notebook. To add the last touch, I stamped and cut out a scalloped circle to title the notebook.

I think this is a fun gift for any mom who likes to read and who may loan books out. Using the bookplates, she can ensure that the books will get returned! I put the notebook and bookplates into the box, and a gift card to a favorite book store could easily be added or a bookmark.

Don’t forget to tie a pretty bow around the box to show your mom how much you care!

Have you ever seen those cute little photo holders in stores with the spring like clip mounted onto a block of some sort? Well, if you know what I'm talking about, then I've got the cutest hybrid project for you!! It was so much fun to create, and most of the supplies needed were already in my scrap stash! So come on in!

Hello again!! It’s Laura here to show you how to make a cute little photo holder when you are in a pinch for a last minute gift! I am so excited to show you this using Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Jewelry Box Template! This little box can be used for many great things but when I first saw it, I thought to myself, this would make such a cute photo holder!! And so, that is what I did!

First, the supplies I used were:

Premium Matte Photo Paper

Ready for Spring by Elise and Jude

Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Jewelry Box Template

glue gun

mod podge/brush

buttons/ribbon

craft wire

First I gathered all of my supplies. I opened up photoshop and used Kelleigh’s template for my base. I knew that I wanted to use the pretty little flowers in this particular kit so I just added a bunch of them on the parts surrounding the template.

I then proceeded to cut all of the little flowers out as well as my template. I used a technique that I got from Mari’s Hybrid Hair clips for the flowers! All you have to do is scrunch the flowers up a bit and mod podge them so they will look like they are actual flowers. You can find the whole tutorial here.

After about 20 minutes or so, the flowers should be dry. While they were drying I assembled my box. (You can add some weight inside the box by using some glass stones or even pebbles if you want. Just about anything will work since you won’t be seeing it. Just make sure you use your glue gun to secure it to the bottom!)

Now take some craft wire. Wrap it around a pencil, or wooden dowel in a spiral shape. Make sure it’s long enough so that you can fold up the edges to hold the picture, and also make a base to stick inside the box.

Now get your glue gun and glue it to the inside of the top flap of your box!

Once it’s dry, go ahead and start adding your flowers!! I added buttons and some ribbon as well as a cute little tag to jazz it up a bit!

Now that you are finished you can place your photo in the holder!! Wasn’t that easy?!

I really hope you enjoyed this as much as I did making it! Thanks for looking and happy (hybrid) scrapping!

Today's project is a perfect little birthday card set that could easily be adapted to just about any occasion.

Hi all! I am here to share a birthday gift set with you.

I used the adorable papers from the Songbird kit by Sugarplum Paperie and Boutique Cute Dolls and the Gable Box Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs to make this project.

Since I don’t have a wide format printer, I shrunk my gable box template a little in Photoshop to fit my printer.

I also sized the trees, birds and the bushes according to the box and the card sizes before I printed them out.

The assembling of the box and the card were real easy:

I added a stamped sentiment for the card and hand drawn the bubble around it. I also decided to add a button sun to the card. I just poked some holes and used embroidery floss for the sun rays.

This is a real simple and easy project and is perfect for children’s birthdays. Hope you will try it, too! =)

Hearts is just not for sweethearts...it's also for those friendships we know we just couldn't live without. This year I invite you to surprise your friends with some home made treats. Check out the the sweet box I put together for a friend who loves coffee!

With Valentines right around the corner I wanted to start working on my valentine gifts. This year I decided to do a little something extra for my friends and family. I think it’s easy to forget that this holiday can also be a celebration of the love we have for our friends and so I’m here to remind you and hopefully to inspire you to make some Valentine gifts for those people in your life that you’re luck to have as friends.

I was instantly inspired by Kelleigh’s new template called Heart Cup and when I saw the new kit by {simply.scraps} and Madame Wing called Fave Flave I just new they would be perfect to use with the adorable cup from Unity’s September Kit of the Month.

Digital Supplies:

Heart Cup by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Fave Flave by {simply.scraps} and Madame Wing.

Other Supplies:

Stamps: Unity’s September Kit of the month

Ribbon

Treats

Coffee

Double-Sided Tape

Misc. Accessories to decorate box – I used ribbon and halfback pearls

Step 1: I printed one of the yummy papers from the Fave Flave kit. I layered the cup template over the same paper and printed again on the other side - this gave me two sides of pattern paper and give is a cleaner look.

After cutting out and scoring the template, I added a row of glue just around the edge of the heart and added some rick-rack ribbon…looks like this.

Step 2: I then adhered double sided tape to the front of the box as seen below to put the template together.

Step 3: I set the box side and started working on some of the decorative elements and stamped images. The stamped images on the front of the box is the cup and the sentimets that hangs from the handle.

Here you’ll see three hearts and the sentiment I printed and cut out of the Fave Flave kit. I adhered this piece to the front of the box.

This next piece I adhered to the front of a bag I used to put a cookie in…isn’t sugar too perfect?!

This next one I used on a belly band I used to hold some instant coffee pouches. I punched two eyelets on either side of the heart and threaded some hemp and hung it around the pouches.

The last items I made for this gift box, is a coaster with Unity Stamps.

To seal it, I added two coats of stain so it can be used for cold and hot drinks.

I then adhered the ribbon to the box, added the cup and sentiment to the front of the box; placed all the items in it and now it ‘s ready to be gifted to a friend. Here’s a photo with all the items out of the box.

One more photo with all the items in the box.

You have a little bit under a month to start making some sweet gifts and hope this has inspired you!

I have romance on my mind. Spring has sprung - well at least down under in Australia it has! I am traveling and there is a certain amount of romance in the notion of travel. Plus my niece is getting married. So this months project called for something decidedly romantic.
Don't know anyone getting married? What about a "date night pack" or passion pack if you like? :)

My niece getting married has caused everything to be wedding and bridal shower oriented in my thinking lately. It is spring in Australia and romance is in the air. Having seen this matchbox template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff made up so cute around the place I was inspired to try my hand at making something “romantic” with it.

Then Danielle Engebretson brought out her cute cute cute complete digital kit called, of all things, “I Do Love You”. You can’t get a much better marriage of idea’s coming together than a fab template and the right kit. Oh, and did I say “cute” enough times already?

It really is!

I used Kelleighs templates and made up two drawer sets, printing off extra elements from Dani’s kit to add after. Also printed the back side of the papers so that the inside looked pretty too. Gloss Modge Podge was applied to all pieces. If you would like to see how I do that you can read about it here or here on another project.

Then the modge podge was also used on both surfaces of the two matchbox bottoms to glue them together. A couple of pegs come in handy to hold it together as it dries. Leave this a fair while to dry so that nothing moves later.

While that was drying I worked on the decorative bits. One full size brown piece to go around the two boxes would give it extra strength. Then using this fab doily edge punch from Martha Stewart I made a pretty edged strip from the plaid paper printed from the kit. Isn’t that paper just gorgeous!! Prints up perfectly too on the Epson Premium Presentation Paper.

After attaching the brown paper from the kit and the pretty edged plaid pieces right around the outside I cut one of the scraps to the right size and glued it to the bottom. This piece was not modge podged on the outside. Using hot glue to adhere small wooden beads to the bottom was the next step. I was not willing to take the chance that the shiney surface of the modge podge may have not taken the hot glue so well which is why I did not use it on the bottom.

Assemble the inner drawers, adding some elements from the kit and using a good amount of hot glue behind some wooden buttons for “drawer handles”. Add some pretty ribbon and anything else that will go with your theme.

Now what to include. Well, that is totally up to you.

However here are some quick ideas:

Miniature Bubblebath, massage oil & body creme

Candles and Matches

Aromatherapy oils

Chocolates

Mini Voucher booklets for various “date night” treats and ideas.

Disposable birth control (if you use it )

If you can bear to give it away, create a matching gift tag, fill it up with some goodies and perhaps a list of “ideas” for the romantic couple.

Or – keep it for yourself! Your other half may just decide they like this hybrid scrap thing!!

Halloween is in full force here at The Hybrid Chick blog! Today I have a little tutorial for you!! Did you know that you can change the size of any and every template? Make them work together like nesting boxes? Well, today I am going to show you how...

Happy Halloween everybody!! Okay – I am a little early, but it’s my only chance to wish everybody a Happy & Safe Halloween!!

Today I have a little project for you using the AMAZING templates of Miss Kelleigh Ratzlaff! Today I used her Perfectly Square Template set. Now, you will notice from the preview (you need to follow that link), that there are only TWO templates in the kit. From my photo below, you will notice that I have a tower of three boxes to make my candy corn!

Let me show you how I did it, it’s really VERY easy…..

When I hit the print button – here is the screen I get – I assume you will get something similar…I have circled where you need to change your settings.

And since I know you can’t really see that, here’s a close up…

I used the lines only document that Kelleigh includes and printed my digital papers – in this case for Jan Hosford’s Brew Ha Ha kit onto the opposite side. I started with the 2.5″ box. The yellow box was printed at full size. The orange box was printed at 85% (as per the screen shot) and the white box was printed at 70%. It made a perfect candy corn tower.

Here’s my tower with a little more decoration. I didn’t go overboard, as I assume somebody is just going to tear it apart to get to the candy inside! The best part about these boxes is they are easy to reclose!

Then, I tried a different form of decoration – these little tags/flair are also from the Brew Ha Ha kit…

Now – of course, while sizing these boxes, I did play around a little so I had a “leftover” box. So for this box, which is printed at 92.5%, I used Mari Koegelenberg’s Monsters In the Closet kit. The little ghost tag comes once again from Jan Hosford’s Brew Ha Ha kit.

And that’s all for me! I can’t wait to see what you create!

The Perfect Pumpkin Template Set turns out to be much more versatile than you would think! Follow along as I create an adorably PERFECT apple for the teacher!

When I created my new Perfect Pumpkin Template Set, I saw lots of wonderful possibilities. Of course, it is gorgeous as a pumpkin, so cool as an acorn, adorably whimsical as a mushroom house, and super classy as a table centerpiece. I can also imagine a Cinderella coach, a beach ball, or basketball. The possibilities are endless!

With back to school stuff still on the brain, I wondered how it would look all dressed up as an apple! Could it be done? You bet!

For this project, I grabbed my Perfect Pumpkin Template Set, and Click. by Kelley Mickus.

Before I get started, let me direct you to some pretty good tutorials (if I do say so myself!) found at here at The Hybrid Chick:

Where to Start – offers suggestions for basic materials to get you started with hybrid.

Using Templates – guides you through the process of using my templates from downloading to adding digital paper, and preparing to print.

Borderless Printing – shows you how to find your borderless printing option on your printer . . . or at least gets you headed in the right direction.

Now, print your project! Of course, you can use digital paper or simply print the lines only version on some of the patterned paper or cardstock in your stash.

I chose a gorgeous red paper from Kelley’s digital kit, added it to the small version of the pumpkin template, and printed it out on matte photo paper.

Next, I scored all of the little dashed lines, and then used my craft knife to carefully cut on the solid lines.

I folded up all of those little scored lines, and then applied some adhesive to the little tabs.

Then, I just went around the edge of the template and adhered the little tabs to the next panel over until it formed a bowl shape. I did this to the top and the bottom.

The lid has a slit in it, so I created an apple stem out of pretty ribbon and slid it into the opening.

The lid should puff up at the top, so be sure to close the slit by matching up the tab to the edge.

However, since I was making an apple, I poked the lid down into the box to make it a little bit concave!

Finally, I added some fun little embellishments, and enjoyed my masterpiece! Now, I just have to fill it with little candies and give it to my son’s teacher!

I was surfing on etsy.com last night, and happened to see these cute robot favor boxes. My son, Kyle saw it too and demanded that I should make it right away. Urmmm… Who does he think I am? A Hybrid Chick?

Well, actually I am. I’m a new Hybrid Chickie, heehee.

Hello everybody~!!! My name is Sunghee and I am super excited to be here. I feel out of this world! I’m going to show you how to make my version of the robot favor boxes. I made a few different colors and themes to show you all the different possibilities for these cute little projects! Don’t mind the scary looking little guy on the blue one…that’s just my Kyle, but he does look a bit scary!

For the first version of the box, I used the Space Dog Full Kit digital kit by TK Whimsy and the Top Heavy Box template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs along with some glue, brads and basic cutting tools.

First, I printed out all the pieces on a sheet of paper. The arms are made from the comet from the kit. I flipped the image vertically to create the inside and outside of an arm.

Next, I cut out all the pieces and got them ready to go. Just a little glue on one side of the arm…

Use a lamp or a lightbox to position, and attach it together.

Punch the hole on the side of the box, attach a brad and use that to attach your double-sided arms to each side of the box.

The perfect favor box for candies. Sweet!

For the next version, I printed the Top Heavy Box Template on cardstock papers. The screwdriver and wrench templates are Daddy’s Tools Blog Freebie from Kelleigh Ratzlaff.

Using some basic metal fasteners, I attached the wrench and screwdriver along with some other goodies.

A geeky robot.

Oh cool! An earring!

For my last little robot, I went with a boxer, complete with DumDum suckers for arms! Isn’t it adorable? Same template, same cardstock, just reversed.

Eyes are Basicgrey’s Magnetic Snaps. Self-adhesive ribbon from KI Memories.

As you can see, there are no limits for adding character to these robots. You can add any embellishments to create almost any theme you can think of!

Here’s a shot of all three stacked up:

Hope this has given you some great ideas on how to create these fun projects for yourself! Thanks for checking out my first post here at The Hybrid Chick!

Step 1:

Design the bottom of the box in your favorite program. The measurement of the bottom box is 7.5 inches x 7.5 inches.

Design the top of the box. The measurement is 5.75 inches x 5.75 inches.

Print.

Step 2:

Carefully cut the pieces using an Xacto blade and a metal ruler.

Step 3:

Score the larger square at 2 inches on each side. Score the smaller (top) square at 1 inch on each side. Carefully cut the sides as shown in the picture.

Step 4:

Using a corner rounder punch, remove the guides, and punch along the edge of the top of the box to create a scallop edge.

Step 5:

Assemble box, adhere sides and attach a coordinating bow.

EXTRA:

I cut a few blue flowers, cut them out and layered them onto the piece. It adds a little extra pop!

Enjoy!
