Instead of buying my party decorations for my little princess, I made them! And by making everything, I was able to customize, resize and recolor to fit exactly what I wanted. Read on to find out how I created my hybrid princess party...in pink of course!

Thanks for stopping by today to see my party decorations! As soon as my almost-three year old and I settled on “princess” as the theme of her upcoming birthday party, I knew I wanted to challenge myself to use digital elements to create a hybrid birthday party.

I ended up using a mix of different products from several designers and was able to coordinate everything. My creations included invitations, two banners, two centerpiece castles, goodie bags, and a party game. I will also soon be creating thank you notes using the same products.

Supplies:

Princess Freestyle Album by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Wildflower by Nicole and Joyce. Paper 2

Kissing Frogs by Nikki Epperson. Papers 3 and 10.

DIY Scalloped Banner, MKC

CK Ali’s Writing Font

Photoshop Elements 6

Epson Premium Presentation Paper

Cardstock

Stamp (Reflections), ink and Copic markers

Foam tape

Gems

Ribbon

Cardboard and Scor-Tape

Scalloped Circle paper punch

My first task was invitations. I cut all my cardstock to 5×7 inches and then designed the cardfront in Photoshop Elements to be 4.75x 6.75 inches. The pink paper is Paper 2 from the Wildflowers kit. I then stamped the princess image onto separate cardstock, colored, cut and adhered. By adding gems and a ribbon I was able to take them from simple to pretty and princessy!

Next up was table decorations. I took a page from Kelleigh’s Princess Freestyle Album, enlarged it, and added the same light pink paper used in the invites and some darker pinks to have it coordinate.

To make the castle stand alone on the table, I simply traced the shape onto a piece of thick cardboard and cut about 1/2 inch inside the lines. I adhered the cardboard to the castle with Scor-Tape. Then I added a small strip of cardstock at the bottom, also adhered with scor-tape, to make it stand.

The banner was created using Mari Koeglenberg’s DIY Printable Scallop Banner, a favorite of mine! I used the same papers as on the invites and castle table decorations and added them onto the banner in Photoshop. After printing and cutting, I strung each piece onto my ribbon. I also printed off two smaller castles to add to the banner and some text.

My son insisted on having a party game at the last minute, so I looked in Nikki Epperson’s Kissing Frogs kit and found the circle label image and the crown. I prepared a document with rows of crown within the circle in photoshop and printed it. I then took my scalloped circle paper punch and punched each one out.

We hid them throughout our yard as a treasure hunt and as the kids found them, they claimed a prize from the basket filled with a random assortment of goodies! This turned out to be a great game to play with varying ages of kids as you can hide some in easier spots for the younger kids, and in tricker places for the older ones.

Last up are the goodie bags. I simply created a document in Photoshop, added the digital papers, the digital scalloped frame, the frog image for the boys and each child’s name. After printing them off, I added a stamped princess image on each girl’s bag and adhered each to the goodie bags.

Thanks for visiting The Hybrid Chick today and viewing my hybrid princess party goodies. I hope I’ve given you a few ideas on how you can create your own party decorations and invitations!

Using Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs' Memo Box and Mari K's new kit, In the Garden, I created a beautiful notecard box that I would be proud to give to any woman in my life...but really I'm going to keep it for myself!

I had so much fun making this vintage, soft trio of notecards and the beautiful matching box. And it really came together so quickly! The best part is that this project can be redesigned in so many ways using minimal extra products.

Kelleigh has create her memo box to be the perfect fit and when you open the file, it is very clear as to where you need to clip the digital papers. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

And, you won’t find a more gorgeous set of floral papers and elements to use in a project like this! By including designs with blue tones as well as pinks, Mari’s kit is also useful for more masculine projects. You should definitely check out some of the scrapbook layouts made with this kit–wow!!

Here’s what I used:

Above you can see how I laid out the digital paper and elements on the sheet to be printed. I clipped more papers than I needed to the memo box and wasted some of my ink–lesson learned!

When I’m making projects, I never really have an exact end result in my head so I wanted to print enough of the digital papers and elements to give myself some freedom to create. I was drawn to the beautiful tags that Mari included in the kit and I knew that I wanted my notecards to feature those.

With such amazing papers I didn’t need to add much to make these cards pretty. The silk ribbon echos the soft feel of the designs and I thought that the butterflies worked well with the floral images. Also adding to the soft theme are the rounded corners that I punched into the corner of each card.

Thanks for stopping by to check out my project today!

Did you know it's Teacher Appreciation week? I certainly wasn't prepared ahead of time! But, I managed to pull together a gift for our special teachers. Read more to see how you can quickly dress up a gift card to show your teacher how thankful you are for all that they do!

Yesterday was Teacher Appreciation Day and for our family, our teachers are very important people! I seem to always be short on time and sometimes gifts come at the last minute. I think that using gift cards is a great way to show teachers that you care without adding to their mug collection (of which they probably have cupboards full!).

I knew that our teachers would appreciate gift cards to be able to choose something for themselves. But, I wanted the gift cards to still be personalized and pretty! Are you looking for a last-minute way to dress up those teacher gift cards? Here’s what I did…

First, I looked in my stash to see what thank you cards I had already made! You could even skip the card and add a handwritten note on the inside of the gift card enclosure, or tie a tag to the ribbon once it’s wrapped up. Then I made some coordinating gift card holders using Jan Hosford’s Hybrid Helpers and two gorgeous kits: Sweet Memories by Nicole and Dani and Calm and Content by Kellie Mize.

I opened up all my files in Photoshop Elements and copied over the gift card template twice onto a new document:

Step 1

I then chose a digital paper from each kit to clip over the enclosures.

Next, I opened a second new document and fill half with a coordinated paper from each kit to print as the backside.

I used Red River Paper’s Polar Matte Double Sided paper to print, which is a great paper for hybrid projects.

The only tricky part here was making sure I had put the paper back into the printer the right way, so the correct coordinated paper would print in the right place (ask me how I know!!).

Step 2

I trimmed out each gift card and scored each using my Scor-Pal and they were ready!

The great part about this style of enclosure is that you don’t need to add any adhesive if you don’t want, as the top flap folds in to keep it closed.

I added my gift cards and tied a ribbon around each. Easy-peasy!

This enclosure is sized perfectly for gift cards and makes a beautiful presentation, and I love that the inside is matched for a pretty surprise when you open it!

We hope that you will check back each day to see all gifts and ideas, and that you will be inspired to create something! Today I want to show you my reader's gift box--perfect for any mom or woman in your life who loves to read! Read on to find out how I made this fun box!

Today I’ll be showing you just how I made this cute gift box that’s just perfect for anyone who loves to read!

Supplies used:

4×6 Prints box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs (The Digichick)

Small composition notebook (Staples)

Scor-Tape

Ink and sponge

Polar Matte Double sided paper (Red River Paper)

PSE 6

Detail scissors

Scor-Pal

Scalloped circle punch

Stamps and ink ( Take Note from Papertrey Ink)

Foam tape

<p align=center">>

To start off my project I opened the print box and the digital paper I wanted to use in Photoshop Elements. I clipped the paper to the box and printed it off.

I put my paper back into the printer to print on the back side, as that would be the interior of the box. The Polar Matte Double Sided paper is so great for that, and it’s a good weight for projects too!

While I was still at the computer, I opened and resized two of the elements from the kit to serve as bookplates. I added the text “This book belongs to” on each element, copied them four times onto my blank document and printed them off. After printing, I cut each out with my scissors and inked the edges to hide any imperfections from cutting. I added a piece of Scor-Tape to the back of each bookplate… this will add the recipient’s name permanently to her favorite books. I also cut, scored and assembled my box at this time.

My next step was to put together the mini notebook. I used some more digital papers from the same kit that I had printed to cover the front and back of the notebook. I was able to adhered it very securely using Scor-Tape and I then I went back around to cut closely to the sides.

At this point I also inked the edges of the paper on the notebook. To add the last touch, I stamped and cut out a scalloped circle to title the notebook.

I think this is a fun gift for any mom who likes to read and who may loan books out. Using the bookplates, she can ensure that the books will get returned! I put the notebook and bookplates into the box, and a gift card to a favorite book store could easily be added or a bookmark.

Don’t forget to tie a pretty bow around the box to show your mom how much you care!

Spring has arrived! Are you interested in playing along with a hybrid color challenge featuring some gorgeous spring colors?? Read on to find out the details, see the beautiful color inspiration photo and learn what you can win!!

It’s my turn to host the challenge this week and I’ve got a gorgeous inspiration photo for you to play with!

I first learned of Leslie’s beautiful blog, A Creative Mint , from the amazing Melissa Phillips , and I often find myself going back to soak up the beautiful colors and photos. Leslie has graciously allowed me to share her photo here.

Isn’t this just gorgeous?

I was inspired to create a vintage card using some of the colors, designs, and elements from the photo. Kellie Mize’s kit Calm and Content is perfectly suited for this challenge. I printed off some of the papers and elements to use. With a few stamped images added, a ribbon tied, some flowers from the kit cut out and popped up, and some swipes of distress ink, my card came together easily.

My second card is a very different style, clean and simple, but still reflects the mood of the photo. For this card, I cut a strip of the flower paper, adhered it to my cardstock and used a paper punch to cut out some butterflies.

So here is your challenge: use this inspiration photo to create something: hybrid, digital, altered or traditional, anything goes! You could use the colors, the flowers, or the layout of the objects to inspire you. Come back here and post a link to your creation in the comments. The challenge will run for two weeks and then I will draw a winner. The winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s store! She has some amazing templates and goodies!!

I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with!

“Thank you so very much”

Here’s a fun and easy project that will showcase photos of your loved ones as well as some beautiful digital papers! I love to incorporate my hybrid papercrafting into home décor…and what a better way then to capture my kids as they are right now! Using a shadowbox frame, some cardstock and some great digital papers and elements from the Back to School kit by Melissa Wilson and MKC, I’ve created something I’m proud to hang up

Let’s take a look at how I created my frame.

Supplies used:

Back to School kit by Melissa Wilson and Mari Koegelenberg Creations
Adhesive
Foam Tape
Shadowbox Frame

The hardest part of this project for me was getting my kids’ pictures! My 2 ½ year old daughter wants nothing with standing still, so it took me several days to finally get a good shot of her! My son was more cooperative, but he refuses a haircut, so he looks a little shaggy.

Once I finally got some decent photos, I opened them in Photoshop Elements and resized them to 4 inches by 4 inches. I printed them off on Red River Polar Gloss paper. At this time I also opened up my digital papers and elements, resized them to my liking and printed those off as well.

I then trimmed the photos and the paper and frame element. Since I don’t have a wide format printer, I decided to mat my whole project on a piece of white cardstock. I trimmed my blue sheet of cardstock down to 11 inches by 11 inches. Then, the polka dot digital paper would still go from edge to edge. I adhered it all together and matted the frames and the photos with brown cardstock.

The next step was stamping my kids’ names and ages. Once I finished that, I was ready to assemble. I added the photos with foam tape to give them a bit of a lift off of the page. The frames were adhered with regular adhesive.

Thanks for coming by to look at my project today and I hope that this may give you an idea of just how easy it is to create a frame like this. I’m sure any parent or grandparent would love a gift like this!

I also used a brand new kit from Madame Wing and MKC called "All a Flutter" which is so springy and beautiful!

To begin my project I opened up the template in Photoshop Elements and added my digital paper from the kit. These papers and elements are truly gorgeous and so perfect for hybrid projects! I printed the template off and printed a second portion of the same paper to use as part of the project.

After trimming and scoring the box, I inked all the edges to help hide the score marks and to give the box more dimension. I then added Scor-Tape to the few areas to be adhered and closed it up. After looking back at the images of the box from Kelleigh, I realized that I made it upside-down—oops!! It still works! Nevertheless, it is a very simple box to put together and I love the clean lines!

I decided to add a magnet to the top to keep the lid shut, so I also added a bit of Scor-tape to the back of each magnet to get a stronger hold. Another cute way to close it would be put tie a ribbon at the top, but being that the box is going to my kids, a ribbon would last about one second!

I then got to work on decorating the box. To make a three-leaf shamrock, I punched three hearts out of the same green digital paper using a heart paper punch. I inked all the edges of all three hearts, and adhered them one over the other using mini glue dots. Once you have all three adhered together you can wiggle them around a bit to get the right shape and angles.

The button is threaded with twine and I left a long trail to serve as the stem of the shamrock. I adhered the button to the shamrock also using a glue dot. Super simple and cute!

The last piece of my project is a stamped saying and frame, which I then cut out and matted with brown cardstock. That also got adhered to the box, this time using foam tape. I decided to add a second shamrock to the back so it is fun to look at from all sides!

I’m thinking of filling this with candy to leave for my kids to find on St Patrick’s Day. You never know what the sneaky leprechauns are up to! I hope that you have been inspired to create something fun for St. Patrick’s Day!

I love to decorate my house with seasonal décor, but I don’t have much of a budget for it. Instead of buying something for each holiday, I’ve found a way to make something using the supplies I already have! This beautiful Valentine’s banner can be created in a few easy steps!

For Valentine’s Day I wanted to dress up my house a bit this year. I chose these beautiful papers from the kit Café Latte to use by Nicole Seitler and Tracie Stroud. This kit is full of vibrant colors, great for Valentine’s Day and also other occasions!

Mari Koegelenberg has created this DIY Printable Scalloped Banner , which is so cute and easy to use!

Both of them together helped me make an awesome Valentine’s Day Banner that was exactly what I envisioned!

I used two fabulous items from The Digi Chick, pictured and linked below:

Café Latte , by Nicole Seitler and Tracie Stroud (The Digichick)
DIY Printable Scalloped Banner , by Mari Koegelenberg (The Digichick)

I also used:

Photoshop Elements 6
Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte
Paper Cutter
Fine Detail Scissors
Acrylic Paint and foam brush
Glitter
Label Die shape and Cuttlebug die-cutting machine
Distress ink and sponge
Hole punch
Ribbon
Buttons
Twine
Foam Tape

The first step was opening the template in Photoshop and clipping the papers. I wanted to have six separate pennants, so I did three different pages with two on each. Then I printed them out using my new Epson printer. (I’ve been printer-less for over a month and I am so happy with my new one!)

I then used my paper cutter to roughly cut apart each pennant on the three sheets. While watching a movie I used my fine detail scissors to cut around each scallop. My next step was inking the edges of the pennants—this helps to hide any mis-cuts and give uniformity to the project.

Next I got to work on my letters. I chose to spell out “Love” and to have two matching hearts at each end. My favorite trick to making glittery letters to simply to paint your chipboard letters and right after painting to sprinkle on the glitter. It will dry stuck to your chipboard! No need for any adhesive or spray.

I wanted to be sure that my letters would be visible, so I used a die to cut out four label shapes for my letters to rest on. I created a new document in Photoshop, sized 8 1/2 by 11 inches and added the same cream and red paper from the Cafe Latte kit onto it. After printing it out, I cut two cream labels and two red labels with my die-cut machine. I inked the edges of these labels also and adhered them to the pennants with foam tape for dimension. By using this labels, it really helped to make the letters visible against the red background paper.

At this point I used a hole punch to punch two holes in each side of the pennants where the ribbon will be strung. I started to string on each pennant, leaving about one inch in between each one and about seven inches at each end of the banner. I found it easiest to cut a very long piece of ribbon off of the spool and to work from one end to the other. I then added a button on each end and tied it on with twine.

By stringing together the pennants before adhering the letters, I avoided touching and bumping the chipboard too much and making the glitter fall off. Once the letters and hearts were dry, I shook an excess glitter off of them. I like the shabby look the glitter and paint leaves as it is not perfect and allows the paint to be seen still behind the glitter. Then, I added them onto the labels on the appropriate pennants with more foam tape.

I hung the banner over a window valance, tying a bow at each end and then trimming to size. I think it looks great and my son has asked me to create one for each holiday! It was so quick and fun, that I will definitely be making more. I can already imagine a cute one for Easter!

Do you know any kids losing their teeth? My project today will show you how to create a small tooth fairy tin with a felt pouch for that precious first lost tooth. It uses Angela Woo’s adorable Tooth Faery kit, full of papers and images perfect for boys and girls!

My son is turning five this weekend and I’ve been thinking about all the milestones ahead—kindergarten, riding a two-wheeler and losing his first tooth. It’s hard to believe that we’re already nearing that next big milestone in his life.

When I saw Angela Woo’s kit, I knew I just had to make him a tooth fairy tin to help me preserve this memory. I found this project very easy to make. I hope that he’ll enjoy using it when his first tooth falls out and he’s preparing it for the tooth fairy!

There is even better news! If you want to make one using this awesome kit, all of Angela’s products are now 30% off! Check out Angela’s Tooth Faery kit . Doesn’t it look perfect for this project?

Supplies used:
Tooth Faery kit , Angela Woo Designs (the Digichick)
Photoshop Elements
Epson Premium Presentation Paper
Sewing machine
Scor-Tape
Paper trimmer
4 oz round clear top tin (Papertrey Ink)
Piece of felt (2 ¼ by 4 ¾ inches)
Hole punch or Crop-a-dile
Button, needle and thread
Scalloped circle paper punch (Marvy)
Ribbon

My first step was to open up the paper and digital element in Photoshop Elements and resize to my needs. I resized the main “band” paper to about 2 x 8 inches, to ensure it would cover my tin completely. The little tooth image, I resized to less than 2 inches so I could fit it on the top of the tin.

Once I had those set, I printed them off using the Epson paper. I then cut out the paper with my paper trimmer to about 1 ¼ inches wide and left it at 8 inches long. I punched out the focal image with my circle punch.

To adhere the paper to the tin I used Scor-tape, but you could also use Modge Podge or Zip Dry glue. I taped the first bit and wound the paper around, adhering a few other sections, as well as at the very last edge to ensure it wouldn’t budge.

I decided to also cover a portion of the lid using a thin ribbon. Again, I trimmed it to an approximate length and wound it around, overlapping the end, using my Scor-Tape as adhesive. For the top of the lid, I just added some Scor-Tape to the underside of the scalloped circle with the tooth image and adhered.

Now came the part that I am least experienced with, sewing! I only own a Janome Sew-Mini, so I wasn’t sure how well it would sew through the felt. I was able to do it, but had to keep guiding the felt so it wouldn’t get stuck. My stitching is not perfect, but I don’t think my almost five-year-old son will mind!

To make the pouch, I simply folded up a portion of the felt and sewed up one side. I then sewed up the other side. You could be more decorative or precise with your sewing if you care to, or are a better seamstress than I!

For the closure of the pouch, I first punched out a small hole with my Crop-a-dile. It went through the felt very easily! From there, I could measure where the button needed to be sewn. You could try different types of closures also, depending on the fabric you are using and how tight of a close you want.

So now, when my son loses his first tooth, I’ll have this cute little tin with a secure pouch to give him. I think that he’ll prefer to put it in here than under his pillow—that way his money will also be safe and sound!

Are you in a holiday panic yet? So much to do, so little time! One of the last things on my list is to finish my holiday cards and get them mailed out. My list of recipients keeps growing though, so I need some quick cards that are still beautiful and full of style. Digital papers to the rescue! By using some gorgeous papers, cardstock, a few stamps and minimal embellishments, I created a set of cards that were very quick to put together and that leave lots of impact.

I love to send handmade holiday cards to family and friends, but it is hard to find the time to create them. Beautifully-designed digital papers can make your cards look gorgeous, while cutting down the time it took to make them!

I choose some wonderfully vintage papers from Mari Koegelenberg’s Snow Much Fun to use on my cards. The designs include irresitable little snowmen, stockings, peppermints, and snowflakes in some vibrant colors with a touch of distressing–all perfect in my book for holiday cards! I gathered together a few other things: some matching cardstock and ribbon, buttons and gems and my adhesives.

Photoshop Elements 6
Epson Premium Presentation Paper
Cardstock (Papertrey Ink)
Stamps (Holiday Button Bits, Papertrey Ink)
Ink (Chestnut Roan, Clearsnap)
Ribbon
Gems or buttons
Circle punch
Adhesive
Sponge

First using Photoshop Elements 6 I resized the papers to 5 ½ by 5 ½ inches to get a better scale of the designs for cards. I arranged the papers onto two new 8 ½ x 11 documents and printed them.

I then went to work cutting and scoring the cardstock into A2 sized cards. I also cut apart the printed sheets in order to separate the papers by each design. From there, I cut and added the papers to the cardstock, stamped the sentiments and added ribbon, gems or buttons to the cards.

I loved some of the papers so much I didn’t want to cover them up and I felt that I didn’t need to add much to make them beautiful. The little snowmen are so adorable and the paper itself has so much detail and texture.

I send quite a few cards to families who do not celebrate Christmas, so I included several greetings that are more inclusive. I liked that the papers in this kit are also winter related, rather than just Christmas themed.

I tried to use up as much of the paper as I could, so for my last card I used a small circle punch to cut portions and then popped them on the card using dimensionals. This is a fun way to showcase several papers without cluttering the card. I did sponge the edges of many of the papers to give more definition.

I was very happy that I used up most of what I had printed off and I was able to create 8 more cards to send out! It was fun to do and very quick–it took me about 30 minutes to put them together! I hope I’ve inspired you to make some handmade cards to send out this year—there is still time right?? I’ve now got 20 card down, 40 to go—off to print more digital papers!
