I was introduced to the doilie Project in a thread at the Digichick and well it has been love at first sight. I love the fact that they are mini canvasses so if you dont have a huge chunk of time you could at least get one done. They are also great to get the creativity to flow!

Layered Paper flower Doilies are addictive. I was redirected to this amazing Blog by Christine Middlecamp. She was running a Embellished Doilie Project.

Every other day she had a step by step tutorial showing how to create her awesome Doilies. I tell you it is inspiration at its best! It inspired me to create a set of Cutting Files for your Digital Die-Cutter to make your very own doilies – Doilie Shapes Set 1.

Well naturally there where a few who wanted to create these Doilies but did not own a cutter. Today I have a solution for you!

All my Cutting Files include both PNG and PSD so you can still hand cut if you wish (although I would not recommend it with this specific shape) or you can use the easy way out which I will demonstrate today. So I hope I have you inspired…lets get started!

Supplies:

PHYSICAL

Red River Polar Matte

12×12 Coordinating Cardstock

Trimmer and Scissors

Adhesive

Dimensional Glue Dots

Glossy Accents

Embellishments (Brads, Flowers etc.)

STEP 1

I created 9 4×4 inch canvasses in my photo editing program. I decorated them with digital papers and embellishments. I also printed out additional embellishments to layer and add dimension.

STEP 2

Print out all your 4×4 squares and extras. Arrange them on a 12×12 Cardstock. This already looks pretty just as it is!

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 1

I cut out 2 extra flowers to layer onto this doilie with a nice big jewel brad. I added some Glimmer Mist to make it shiny.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 2

I cut out a few more stickers and adhered them with some dimensional glue dots. I also added a jeweled brad for some bling.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 3

I cut out a few more flowers and adhered them with a jeweled brad and glue dots.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 4

I cut out a sticker and adhered it with a glue dot and a pretty brad.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 5

I layered a hand cut flower with a felt flower and a pearl brad. I did the same with the larger sticker.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 6

I punched out 4 circles and made this pretty paper flower. I also cut out one of the gem brad included in the kit and with Dimensional Glaze I added some dimension to the brad making it look almost like the real thing. I had to wait for this to dry before I took the final photo…

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 7

Another set with Hand cut flowers and stickers layered with some felt flowers and brads.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 8

I layered a gorgeous flower with a jeweled brad. I curled the edges of the paper to create the illusion of real flowers. This one turned out really well.

EMBELLISHED DOILIE 9

Another Paper flower this time using a scalloped circle punch, which I layered with felt flowers and brads. I also added a tiny bow for added dimension.

So do you see that even though this looks difficult it is very easy to create!

Want to see the final project?

Now I just need a Shadow Box frame for this guy…and an idea of where I want to hang it? lol!

Here are some more close ups…

This is a very involved tutorial not for the faint of heart but the results are worth it!

This is a very involved and complicated tutorial but when you have mastered this and you have the template file all set up, it will make mass production of super cute boxes like the Cupcake Box I used as an example a breeze! So all the effort will be worth it! Trust me!

I just want to add a disclaimer that since Printers, Die-cutting Machines and their Software all differ I cannot guarantee the results but I recommend adapting this tutorial to your specific circumstances.

I recently became the proud owner of a Cricut Expression. Now as a hybrid crafter it was not long before I saw the amazing possibilities of incorporating digital designs with my digital die-cutting machine. One great feature about the Silhouette Cutter is the ability to do a Print and Cut (i.e. Print a Digital Design and using your Die-cutting Machine to cut out the shape). The Cricut does not have this capability but after stumbling across this Tutorial by Kay Hall I started thinking on how to work around this feature. The method she described is wonderful and works like a bomb but I have found that for more intricate cuts the following method works better.

You will need the following supplies:

Photo Editing Software

Vector Drawing Program (Inkscape is a free version and can be downloaded HERE)

Digital Die-cutter and compatible software.

Cupcake Box by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

Fresh Cut – the Collection a TDC Collaboration

Polar Matte Photo Paper by Red River

Metal Ruler

Bone Folder

Embellishments (Flowers and Buttons)

STEP 1

Open up your Template in your Photo Editing Software. Select the layer that has the complete template. Adjust that layer so it is black. I used my levels function and just moved the black triangle all the way to the right.

Make sure just the black box is visible and flatten the image and save as JPEG.

STEP 2

Open up your Vector Drawing Program and the JPEG you just created. Trace your image.

Here is a quick tutorial for Inkscape users – Tracing.

I used Illustrator’s default settings.

You will notice there are 2 paths in your layers palette. One is the bounding box around the image and the other is the actual path. Select the bounding box and delete it.

You should have only one path in your layers palette as shown here.

Save as SVG to use in Die-cutting Software, or use the format specified for your specific cutter.

STEP 3

Copy (CTRL+C) the Path and Paste (CTRL+V) it into your template file in your Photo Editing Software.

Paste as Smart Object…if you select that option you can double click on the icon and edit the path in Illustrator.

STEP 4

Before I start clipping my papers to the template I need to do a few more things. I select all the layers I wish to use for this template and the Smart Object/Path I just pasted in the document.

Then I resize them. You will see in a minute why I need to do this. I used 95% x95%.

I then select Image – Trim. Click OK.

Next I select Image – Image Size. Write down the Width and Height of your template in inches.

Select UNDO (CTRL+Z). Save this document as a .PSD/Layered File in a new location/a different name, do not overwrite your original template.

STEP 5

Select EDIT – Preferences – Units and Rulers and set the Rulers to Inches.

Next select View and make sure Rulers are ticked/selected. Then also enable Grid by going to View – Show – Grid.

STEP 6

Make sure all the layers you have selected in STEP 4 is still active/selected. Create a Horizontal and Vertical Guide in your document at the following coordinates: x: 0.5 inches and y: 0.5 inches. Be sure to write down these values too. To create a guide use your Move Tool and drag from the Ruler area in the top or left area of your document.

With your active layers move them so the top left corner of the bounding boxes align with the guides on your document. Zoom in as close as possible to make sure your layers are placed accurately.

STEP 7

Move the Smart Object/Path down in your layers palette so it is beneath all your layers you wish to customize. Add a stroke by either clicking on the Functions – Stroke or in PSE select Edit – Stroke. Set the size to 20px…the color does not matter.

Right click on the style icon in your layers palette and select create layer. Clip your paper to this layer and hide the Smart Object/Path. Decorate your template as desired. Your final image will be slightly larger than the resized template but this is just to ensure there is a margin for error.

STEP 8

I prefer to add a Crop mark so I don’t have to eyeball it too much! Select your basic brushes and the 1px hard brush and using the guide lines draw a line from the one point to the other to create an almost inverted l shape. Flatten your image and save. Print it out and now we will moving on to our Digital Die-cutter.

STEP 9

Open up your Die-cutting machines compatible software. I use Make the Cut for Cricut. Just a note…although this specific software has an excellent tracing capability built in I prefer to do the tracing in a third party program because I have more control over the final image/path.

Select the correct mat size you will be using.

Insert your SVG File you saved earlier.

Insert the Width and Height values you wrote down in STEP 4. Also make sure your X and Y values correspond to the ones you wrote down.

Save this document since you can re-use this project…you have set everything up now it is time to start cutting and getting your hands dirty!

STEP 10

Make sure your Digital Die-cutting machine is connected to your computer. Place your printed template onto your mat and use the crop marks to align the template for cutting.

Load your mat and start cutting.

As noted before, the downside with this is that it will not always cut 100% perfectly but for the convenience of not picking up scissors and actually cutting it out I am happy to make that concession. Plus as noted before, this is great if you want to do this for mass production (i.e. more than one in my opinion!)

STEP 11

Score and fold your cupcakes. Adhere the cupcake according to instructions.

To add a little ‘fluff’ to the cupcake I roll the top flaps over a round object so they are curly and add some dimension when the cupcake is assembled.

Here is a finished cupcake…so cute!

It is so easy to create this advent calendar, and it looks amazing!

Can you believe it is that time of year again? I am in such a Holiday Crafting mood and with this fun Advent Calendar we are sure to have a Crafty Christmas.

The template is so easy to use and so versatile, since it’s release I have seen so many gorgeous variations. You can also use it to make a Christmas Layout if you wish.

If you are unsure what an advent calendar is and even want an idea of activities to include I suggest you make a visit to the Digichick forum HERE, there are some amazing examples and ideas.

So let us get our tools together…

Supplies Needed:

Advent Calendar Template available HERE

Joy by Karla Dudley available HERE

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Trimmer

Craft Knife

Metal Ruler

Score Tool/Bone Folder

Double Sided Tape

12×12 Coordinating Cardstock

Embellishments

STEP 1

Assemble your template in your photo editing program. I chose to use it in landscape format, just remember to switch back to portrait when done to ensure your template prints correctly. I wanted to matte my calendar on a 12×12 piece of Cardstock so I also added an additional title on the top. Print it out and start assembling.

STEP 2

The top template has cut and score marks to create little windows. Use a sharp craft knife to cut the little windows using the guides.

I must warn you it is very difficult to cut these lines precisely so be careful and keep that in mind as well when designing your template in your photo editing program.

Use your score tool to make the folds of the little windows.

STEP 3

Carefully place the top template over the bottom template so they align. Glue with some double sided tape. Position onto your 12×12 Cardstock and add the title. Embellish as desired.

There you go it is as easy as that! To create an even more display from your project, place it in a frame or in a frame holder and use embellishments and ribbons to add a little something extra. I hope you enjoyed this template and I wish you a very Merry and Happy Holiday Season!

Cute Accordian Halloween Mini Album - Just takes a few minutes!

It is almost time for Ghosts and Goblins…and if you are like me, you have not even scrapped your Halloween pictures of last year!

I recently added Journaling Cards to my Hybrid Printables Collection. I love them because they are so versatile…not only can you use them as is and just print out and use on your Scrapbooking Layouts but they are a great base for Cards, Mini Books and Banners. I personally love playing with them and trying to think outside of the box. I recently did an altered Coaster Notepad using these journaling cards, and some candy wrappers for halloween. The possibilities are endless!

To make an accordian album is probably one of the fastest and easiest ways of creating a little mini-album. Here is the supplies you will need:

Digital:

Monster in the Closet Journaling Cards

Physical:

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Metal Ruler

Trimmer/Scissors

Double Sided Tape

Bone Folder

STEP 1

For a double sided accordian mini album you need 2 strips of photos/journaling cards spaced evenly and continous. We will not be cutting them apart.

On a 8.5×11 inch document arrange your journaling cards and photos (cropped to 2.5×3.25 inches) in 2 strips. Make sure their edges meet up since we will not be cutting them up…just using them as a whole to create the album. Align the vertical centers of each strip.

Flatten and print out.

STEP 2

Using your scissors/trimmer cut out the 2 strips. Do not cut the cards/photos apart…keep them as a whole.

STEP 3

Using Double sided Tape adhere the two sides together.

Step 4

Score and Fold using your bone folder and ruler.

And guess what? You are done! You can add some cute dimensional embellishments like buttons, stickers etc. but I decided to keep it simple!

Just a little Notebook for your desk...using inexpensive Coasters.

I am a very dangerous person to let loose in the dollar store…I can do some serious damage to a budget by just purchasing $1 items with the best intent in the world to create something from it.

So these Coasters have been hanging around in my drawer for a while as you can imagine. I originally purchased them to make photo coasters but never got round to it.

While browsing Etsy I saw some really cute Notebooks that inspired me to try and make my own.

So for this project you will need the following:

Digital Supplies:

Sky is the Limit Journaling Labels by MKC and Courtney Wilson available at the Digichick.

These Journaling Labels are just perfect for the Papercrafter…a great base for a mini-album or quote book and just great for cards.

I created a few gift cards by just printing these out and adding to some cardstock, quick and easy!

and for the Background I used the coordinating Papers from the Sky is the Limit Kit available at the Digichick.

Physical Supplies:

Epson Premium Matte Presentation Paper

2 Coasters

4×4 Inch Post Its/Sticky Notes

Craft Glue

Mod Podge

Cropodile

Corner Rounder

Trimmer

Scissors

Post Bound Album Screws

STEP 1

I created a new document sized at 4′ x 4′ inches, the same size as my Coasters. I decorated it with my Digital Backgrounds and Journaling Labels.

Print out your Coaster Covers.

STEP 2

Before Trimming the covers apply a thin layer of Mod Podge and let dry.

Sharyn aka ShabbyShaz suggested this technique and I must be honest I am not a Mod Podge lover but this method really makes working with it much easier!

A Lot less Smears and Smudges!

STEP 3

Punch a hole in your coaster and use it as a guide for the Notepad and remaining coaster.

Bear in mind I wanted to have the Corkboard to be the backing of the notebook, punch a hole accordingly.

STEP 4

Assemble the notepad without the Sticky Notes to determine the final size/number of sheets you will need to make a nice snug fit in your little notebook.

Use your ruler to measure the open space. I thought I had a larger Post Bound Album Screw but was mistaken so I had to use this smaller one so do try and get a larger size if possible.

Punch your holes using your Cropodile or Hole Punch.

STEP 5

Using a ‘Industrial’ Strength Corner Rounder like the Paper Gator from Around the Block round your corners.

There are a few tools that are essential to me and are very good investments, one of them is a good corner rounder…I got this guy at 60% Off! I can truly recommend it!

It is perfect for little Notepads and Chipboard Mini-Albums. Rounding Corners really completes a project and just gives it that ‘perfectly created’ feel.

STEP 6

Gently Sand the Coasters to remove the plastic covering the Coasters to give the Printed Covers a surface to adhere to.

It helps to roughen up the surface so the paper can better bond to the Coasters.

Use a Foam Brush and Craft Glue to adhere the covers to the Coasters.

Let it dry thoroughly. Sand the edges to make it smooth and clean up the edges.

STEP 7

Arrange the notepad so the first and last coaster is facing upward and the corkboard backing is at the back.

This cute notepad slides open and closed and is perfect for a handbag or on your desk.

It looks like a coaster but is it?

Here it is all packaged up and ready to be given to someone special!

PHYSICAL:

3′x3′ Inch Chipboard book by Creative Imaginations

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Adhesives (Liquid Craft Glue, Double Sided Tape and Glue Dots)

Trimmer, Scissors and Craft Knife

Nail File

Velcro Adhesive Strips/Dots

Crop-A-Dile/Hole Punch and Eyelet Setter and Eyelets

String/Twine

Distress Ink and Applicator

Piece of Scrap Card stock same size as your Characters/Monkey’s

Mod Podge and Applicator

Optional: Flowers, Buttons and Rhinestones.

STEP 1

Measure your Album and determine the Width and Length of the Inside Pages and the Outside Cover. For my Outside Cover the dimensions are 3′ inches for the Front plus 0.75′ inches for the spine and another 3′ inches for the Back; so it was 6.75′ for the width and 3′ for the height. The Inside measured 3′ inches plus 3′ inches; that is 6′ inches for the width and 3′ inches for the height.

I created one 6.75′x3′ inches Shape and 4 6′x3′ inches Shapes and clipped my Papers to it.

I arranged them on 2 documents (8.5′x11′ inches @ 300dpi) and in the open spaces I added 3 scalloped borders included in the kit, 1 Floral Border also included in the kit and 2 sets of the Monkey’s. You can also add extra flowers or elements in the open spots on your documents.

NB If you want your Monkey/Character to be double sided remember to Mirror the image so keep one at its original position and change the 2nd image to the mirror image. You can do this in Photoshop by clicking on the Edit Menu and selecting the Transform<Flip Horizontal.

Print out your pages onto the Premium Matte Photo Paper.

STEP 2

Trim your album pages and cut out your borders.

Adhere one set of monkey’s to the scrap piece of card stock.

Cut them out with your scissors.

Now glue the Mirror image to the back of the first Monkey.

Repeat this with the remaining Monkey.

Feel free to play around and add some interesting embellishments to decorate your monkey…some felt/corduroy to add to the monkey’s hat and maybe a little flower for the girl, or even some grass for the hula skirt!

Ink the edges of your Monkey’s; I used Tea Dye Distress Ink by Ranger Ink.

Apply 2-3 coats of Mod Podge to the Front and Back.

Let it dry between individual coats.

STEP 3

While the Monkey’s are drying…arrange your page borders on your album pages. I layered the scalloped Borders to simulate ‘water’.

Adhere your strips with Glue Dots (You don’t want to glue down the whole border but want to leave pockets for the monkey’s to ‘swim’ in)

Now adhere all your Inside Album Pages with Craft Glue.

Do not adhere the album cover just yet!

Let it dry.

STEP 4

Trim the edges with your Craft Knife and using the Chipboard Pages as guides.

Sand the edges of the album with your sanding file.

You can also ink the edges with your Distress Ink.

Sanding and inking edges are a great way to disguise those little mishaps! It is also a great way to finish off a project.

Now Apply 2-3 thin coats of Mod Podge to each page.

Let it dry thoroughly before doing the next page.

STEP 5

As soon as the inside pages are dry apply the Velcro strips.

NB Make sure to only apply the softer strips to the inside pages…leave the more bristly/negative strips for the Monkey bodies to ensure that they stick.

The Glue on the adhesive strips need to set for at least 24 hours before use so keep this in mind when creating these little books.

It might be best to complete these at night when you don’t have little bodies around who cannot wait for you to finish! Trust me been there done that!

STEP 6

Apply the Negative/Bristly side of the Velcro adhesive strips to the back of the monkey’s.

Please Note: If you are accident prone as I am rather use Card stock to print your monkey’s out, the ink is ‘absorbed’ which makes it unlikely that the colors/printed image will come off like mine did when I Mod Podged it.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing! But luckily it will be on the back so nobody *should* notice?

STEP 7

Using your Crop-A-Dile/Hole Punch punch a hole in the center at the top of the Monkey’s head.

Insert an eyelet into the hole and set it with your Crop-A-Dile/Eyelet Setter.

Adding an eyelet will ensure that your monkey will not easily tear off and make it last just a little longer.

I highly recommend investing in a Crop-A-Dile for your craft projects…I really use it nearly in each project and is so versatile.

They go through Chipboard and even Thin Sheets of Metal like Tin Buckets.

STEP 8

Cut a length of string/twine twice the length required for the monkey’s to reach the front page.

Loop the string through the hole and pull tight.

You can use ribbon or even fishing line.

STEP 9

Using double Sided Tape (Terrifically Tacky by Provo Craft is an excellent choice) stick the ends of your twine to the back of your album as shown.

Now adhere the Book Cover with some Craft Glue.

Let it dry.

The twine is a bit lumpy on the back, you can also apply them to the spine if you like.

Use your craft knife to trim the edges.

Sand and Distress the edges.

We are almost finished!

STEP 10

Apply 2-3 Coats of Mod Podge to the cover.

Let it dry thoroughly.

Now if you have managed to keep the little critters away while creating this special activity book; kudos to you!

Gather them to come and test this one out and make their own special stories.

My dd could not wait to test it out! She loves telling me the story of the monkeys who walk in the garden, swing on the vines, surf in the sea and splash in the pool.

I would love to see the stories you create!

These are the perfect little stocking stuffer for Christmas and so easy to make!

Get started early this year with your Christmas Gifts…these Calendars are just so easy to make!

CD Calendars and Desktop Calendars are so appealing to all of us because it is such a handy way to showcase our photos and our awesome Digital Skills!

They look perfect nearly anywhere at Home or in the Office.

And with the gorgeous templates available in the TDC Boutique it is so easy to make a custom gift box to match this one of a kind Calendar. Not only does it look great but it is ever so practical!

I used the following Digital Supplies:

Click. a Digital Kit by Kelley Mickus

Mini Shirt Box Template by Melissa Wilson

2010 CD Calendar Template by MKC

Physical Supplies:

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

4 x 12 inch Chipboard

Scissors/Craft Knife

Cropodile/Hole Punch

2 Medium Book Rings

Double Sided Tape/Adhesive

Trimmer

Bone Folder

Metal Ruler

Extras: Embellishments, Flowers, Buttons, Ribbons, Stickers etc.

STEP 1

Open the Calendar Templates in your photo editing program. Clip the Papers from your digital kit to the template. I re-sized my calendar template to fit inside the box template; I re-sized it by 85%. I could fit 4 calendar pages per printed page and then I printed additional papers for me to use my MM Slice to cut out cute shapes and I also added a few embellishments from the digital kit to coordinate with the calendar.

STEP 2

I scored and folded my Chipboard at 1 inch, 5 inches, 0.5 inches, 0.5 inches and 5 inches as seen in the image.

Just modify my instructions to suit your templates need…you can go bigger or smaller.

STEP 3

On the outer 1 inch flap apply your double sided tape an adhere the sides together to make a little desktop stand.

Measure and Mark where you wish to punch your holes and using your Cropadile/Hole Punch make holes for the book-rings.

Use the same markings for your calendars and make a hole template to ensure they are all in the same place.

STEP 4

Print out your Calendar Pages.

Decorate as desired with flowers, die cuts, ribbons, buttons etc.

Please note that I did not use photos because it is still to early in the year for me; my kids grow so fast and I love to include current photos for friends and family…what is great about these calendars are that you can make them ahead of time and add pictures later.

What is a great gift without the packaging?

STEP 5

Using the Gift Box Template I created a special custom gift box coordinating with the calendar. It looks so smart and fancy!

Score and fold along the dotted lines. Apply adhesive on the smaller flaps and adhere to make a box.

I made a card using the scraps from the extras I printed.

Just a perfect fit for the calendars…

Have a look at the completed project…now wouldn’t you like to receive one just like this?

Embellish store bought hairclips with some cute paper and buttons and be the envy of everyone! ;)

The joy of having a girl is to have someone to dress up in cute girly clothes and a sweet hairdo… not so in my case! lol! My dd HATES having her hair done so it is fun doing a project like this that makes her feel special and ‘motivates’ her to wear something in her hair.

Plus it is a very special and unique gift to any Girly Girl at heart! You can do just a few or with the help of a Die-Cutting Machine you can do a large production line.

Remember you don’t need a Die-Cutting machine to complete this project…explore some of the Default Shapes in your photo editing program to use as a clipping mask for your digital papers.

Let us gather our supplies for this fun project…

Low Temperature Glue Gun

Buttons

Hairclips

STEP 1:

In your photo editing program open up a new 8×10 inch document @ 300dpi. You can use a 8.5×11 inch document if you have a borderless printer. I resized the paper’s I wanted to use to 6×6 inches and arranged them on my document till I had 4 blocks sized 4×5 inches each. Print out your final document on Matte Photo Paper.

Following the directions for your Die-Cutting Machine cut out your shapes at about 1 inch – 1.5 inches sizes.

Just look at that…doesn’t it just look adorable? I must confess that these papers are just so cute and fun to work with! They are definetely worth adding to your stash…they are perfect for cards and any hybrid project you can think of!

STEP 2:

Apply Mod Podge to your flowers one at a time and manipulate them while they are wet to curl them into petal shapes. Be Careful to not smudge the ink!

Let them dry thoroughly. They will retain their shape thanks to the Mod Podge.

Heat up your glue gun and be sure to use the low temperature gun so as not to burn yourself, if you dont have one use any good strong Craft Glue.

Layer your flowers onto the end of the hairclip and glue them together using the glue gun. Add a Button as a final touch.

And there you have it… cute unique girly clips and girl would be proud to wear! Although I had to bribe mine to take a photo!
