As we continue on with our Easter theme week here on The Hybrid Chick, I'm going to show you a simple and fun way to display those awesome eggs you've colored! It's a lot of fun and the kiddos can join in too!

Ready? Let’s start with the supplies I used:

Happy Little Easter by Quirky Twerp, In The Meadow by Nicole and Monica and Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Easter Egg Basket Template.

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Scissors

Mod Podge

Glitter Glue

Ribbon

Glue Dots

Rhinestones

Ok, now that you’ve got the tools you need, go ahead and open up photoshop! You can use just plain rectangles to create your egg holder or you can create a curved shape like I did just to spice things up a bit!

Now it’s time to cut out your templates or rectangles! I used some funky scissor edges for some added effect! You can also print a duplicate layer of parts of your egg holder then cut it out and adhere it to the holder to add an awesome 3-D effect!

Next, use glue dots or any other choice of glue and start wrapping up your holders!

Now that you have them all assembled it’s time to start adding embellishments!!! This is my favorite part can you tell?!? I used some ribbon, glue and rhinestones……

Last but certainly not least, I made a cute little basket out of Kelleigh’s Easter Egg Basket templates! I thought it would be cute to display in my house along with my Easter egg holders!

Kelleigh’s templates are easy to use and the directions are very easy to understand as well. Just pick the paper/papers you want to use, add them to Kelleigh’s template, and then print and cut out.

Here is what it will look like:

And here is the final product! Aren’t these cute? They are perfect for the whole family to do and the kids will love displaying their eggs!

Thanks for reading along with me and I hope you enjoy making these as much as I did!!

~Laura

Have you ever seen those cute little photo holders in stores with the spring like clip mounted onto a block of some sort? Well, if you know what I'm talking about, then I've got the cutest hybrid project for you!! It was so much fun to create, and most of the supplies needed were already in my scrap stash! So come on in!

Hello again!! It’s Laura here to show you how to make a cute little photo holder when you are in a pinch for a last minute gift! I am so excited to show you this using Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Jewelry Box Template! This little box can be used for many great things but when I first saw it, I thought to myself, this would make such a cute photo holder!! And so, that is what I did!

First, the supplies I used were:

Premium Matte Photo Paper

Ready for Spring by Elise and Jude

Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Jewelry Box Template

glue gun

mod podge/brush

buttons/ribbon

craft wire

First I gathered all of my supplies. I opened up photoshop and used Kelleigh’s template for my base. I knew that I wanted to use the pretty little flowers in this particular kit so I just added a bunch of them on the parts surrounding the template.

I then proceeded to cut all of the little flowers out as well as my template. I used a technique that I got from Mari’s Hybrid Hair clips for the flowers! All you have to do is scrunch the flowers up a bit and mod podge them so they will look like they are actual flowers. You can find the whole tutorial here.

After about 20 minutes or so, the flowers should be dry. While they were drying I assembled my box. (You can add some weight inside the box by using some glass stones or even pebbles if you want. Just about anything will work since you won’t be seeing it. Just make sure you use your glue gun to secure it to the bottom!)

Now take some craft wire. Wrap it around a pencil, or wooden dowel in a spiral shape. Make sure it’s long enough so that you can fold up the edges to hold the picture, and also make a base to stick inside the box.

Now get your glue gun and glue it to the inside of the top flap of your box!

Once it’s dry, go ahead and start adding your flowers!! I added buttons and some ribbon as well as a cute little tag to jazz it up a bit!

Now that you are finished you can place your photo in the holder!! Wasn’t that easy?!

I really hope you enjoyed this as much as I did making it! Thanks for looking and happy (hybrid) scrapping!

Hey everyone, Laura here! This is my first official post here on The Hybrid Chick blog!! Let’s get started shall we? There are a ton of different ways to create jewelry using hybrid! In fact, we’ve even featured a few techniques here on THC. Today I will teach you how to alter a store bought locket and make it YOURS! Come on in, the water is nice and warm!

First, the supplies I used are:

Heart Locket

Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper

Mari Koegelenberg’s Dotty Gels Alpha in Black

Fashion Plate Collab by TDC Designers

Mod Podge

Cutterbee scissors or an exacto knife

Paint brush

Triple Thick OR Diamond Glaze

Now that I’ve got all my supplies ready, I started by taking off the original embellishment on the heart locket. In this case it was an acrylic sticker and was super easy to remove. I just used my exacto knife to get underneath it and lifted it off.

After I’ve removed it, I have just a plain metal locket. A perfect canvas to work with! Now here comes the somewhat tedious part. In photoshop, I used the heart shape and clipped my pictures to them. I measured (roughly) how big the locket was. Then, I made my pictures to size and printed them out. I would suggest making duplicates of each picture in case you mess up you can just start a new one!

I very carefully started to cut out my heart shaped pictures. It doesn’t really matter if they are overlapping because you can always go back after its’ glued and cut the edges off.

After I cut out all my hearts, it’s time to glue them to the locket! I used some mod podge to glue them on and then cut off the overlapping edges to make sure it was a snug fit. After that was done, I went back over and put a layer of mod podge back over the pictures so that they won’t bleed when putting on the triple thick or diamond glaze!

Take the other end of the brush and really go over it a few times to make sure it’s really stuck!

OKAY! Almost there! Now all you have to do is apply the triple thick or diamond glaze to the top of the locket for a nice glaze finish! You can do this with a soft (small) brush and if you have any air bubbles, you can use a toothpick or a coarse bristle brush to get them out. Let it sit for at least 24 hours before handling to make sure the glaze has set! So now, guess what?? YOU’RE DONE! Yay! It is really simple and makes for a perfect gift for a child or grandmother, mother etc. This particular one I made was for my little girl when she started school!
