Have you ever wanted something for your wall, but you just can't find the right thing? Have you seen those cool wall art pieces with nice quotes on them but want to make your own. Well, today I will show you how I made one.

I am in the process of making a “Family Photo Wall” in my living room. I see these cool pieces online of wall art with these great quotes. I thought, there are so many awesome digital Word Art sets for sale, I should make my own. I had some canvases I got a a garage sale, so hey, I’ll make one!

Today I will show you a quick and easy way to make your own personalized Wall Canvas.

The supplies I used were…

A canvas, matte photo paper, scissors, ModPodge, Black craft paint, paintbrush, distress ink, some ribbon, glue gun, edge distress tool or sandpaper.

The digi supplies were…

Photo Editing program, I use PSE8, a printer, the Sideliners Word Art Set by Jan Hosford and the Fabrications Classic paper pack by Quirky Twerp.

The first thing you need to do is measure your canvas, then open a new file in your photo editing program that is the same size as you canvas. Design your creation with your word art and some digi papers. I put a few pictures on mine too. Then print it out on your matte photo paper. If it doesn’t fit quite perfectly just trim it down a little.

Then you want to distress the edges of it a little bit, use and edge distressing tool or some sandpaper and rub it all around the edges. Then take your distress ink and rub it all over the edges too. Like this…

Then put a coat of Mod Podge all over the top of of it to seal it. Let it dry.

While that is drying take some craft paint and paint the edges of your canvas, like this…

When both the paint on the canvas and the ModPodge on your paper is dry you will attach the paper to the canvas with some more ModPodge. Just put the ModPodge all over the canvas with your paintbrush, lay the paper on top of that and press down real good, smooth out any air bubbles. I turned mine over so I could get it nice and flat and rub any bubbles out. Like this….

You will have this…

Now add some ribbons to jazz it up a bit, I put some little pieces of ribbon on the corners, wrapped a piece all around the edges and used another piece for a hanger. You are done! Hang it on your wall and enjoy!

Graduation is almost here. My niece Samantha is graduating! I took her senior portraits for her. She is so beautiful. I thought it would be a great gift to make her a mini album with her special photos. Let’s get started.

You will need:

Digital Supplies

Your photo editing program

A printer and some photo paper

A digi kit; I used the beautiful, inspiring kit called Sky’s the Limit by Skittles and Scraps and MKC Creations

Some Mini Album Templates will make this project was easier, I used Hybrid Album Shapes by Mrs. Wresh Designs

Craft Supplies

A Mini Tag Album or Chipboard to cut your own

Scissors, Glue Stick, Ribbons, a Binder Ring, Distress Ink, Sanding Block

Some thing to make a hole like a Crop-a Dile or a nail

You first step is to design your Mini Album pages in Photo Shop. The Hybrid Album Shapes Templates make this so easy! Just clip your papers and pictures to the shape with a clipping mask and embellish as you please with your digital elements.

Drag you flattened pages onto an 8.5×11 file and print. Here is my first set of prints…

You will see why I say “first set of prints” next, and remember this tip!

You are designing a book, which means you pages will go back to back…so, you can really have all your pages going the same way. This was my little learning process. I had to go back into PSE and redesign 3 of my pages by rotating the template to go the opposite way. Here is my second set of prints. Now we’re cooking!

So of course we have to cut them out, let them set for a bit before you cut them out, so the ink can settle.
I am using a piece of chipboard, I didn’t have a nifty Mini Album in my stash so I made my own. Just trace around your page onto the chipboard and cut.

If you have a Mini Album of course you get to skip this step!

Next we will ink the edges of all the chipboard pages, front and back, like this. I sanded them a little too.

When the ink is dry attach your photo pages to your chipboard pages. I used an extra strong glue stick for this step.

Now just punch your holes. I like to punch my first hole then line up the other pages and make a mark in the middle of the whole. That way all my holes line up. Add you ring and some ribbons and your done!

Here are my album pages.

A bouquet of flowers, with my digital scrapbooking supplies? Yes, you sure can! Not only the flowers but a vase to put them in! You can do it all with some digital scrapbooking paper and a little bit of creativity. Mom will love it!

Today we are going to make a cute little bouquet of flowers and even a little vase for them. Perfect for Mom!

Lets’ get started. The digi supplies you will need are:

Your photo editing software

Printer and Matte Photo Paper

Some digital scrapbooking papers, I used The Sophie Paper Pack and the Haute Mama Paper Pack both by TK Whimsy at TDC!

A Template for your vase, I used the Hourlgass Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff at TDC.

A template for the flowers I used Build a Blossom by Courtney Wilson at TDC.

Some crafting goodies you will need are…

Scissors

Glue or Glue Gun

Embrodory Floss and Needle

Buttons

ModPodge

Craft sticks (Popsicle Sticks)

Ribbon

Some sand or beans (or chicken feed) LOL! You will see why soon!

Ok, so the first step is to design your flowers in your photo editing program. With these Build a Blossom Templates this is super easy—just clip you papers to the flowers using a clipping mask. I filled up a whole 8.5×11 piece of paper with flowers. Then print them out on your Matte Photo Paper or cardstock.
Here are mine all printed out:

Let the ink dry for a little bit them cover all the flowers with a layer of ModPodge, just apply it with a paintbrush.

Now you have to wait for the flowers to dry, while you wait you can get the buttons ready for the center of the flowers. I am one of those people who just hate to see an empty button hole. I just think the buttons look way cuter with some thread going through them, even if they aren’t really sewed to anything. So, I just took some embroidery floss and a needle, stacked 2 (sometimes 3) buttons in a stack, with the bigger buttons on the bottom and sewed them all together. Just start from the top and take the needle through the holes, go back up the other hole to the top again and tie a knot to hold them together. Easy Peasy!
Like this:

Now that your flowers are dry go ahead and cut them out.

Now glue your button centers onto your flowers, like this:

Now, of course we will need some stems for these flowers, I am using popsicle sticks. Our “leaves” will be our green ribbons. Just tie the ribbons onto the stems. Like this:

And of course glue your flowers onto your stems. Glue them at the very top so you will have enough “stem” to go into the vase.

Speaking of a vase, lets make one. This is super simple, just open up the “Hourglass Template Set” in your Photo Editing Program. Clip some matching paper to the template and print. Follow the directions that come with your template on how to score and fold. The only thing is that we will be leaving the top of our Hourglass box open. So just trim the top fold pieces a tiny bit and fold in and glue! Now you have a vase.

Once I got mine all together I inked all my edges and painted a layer of ModPodge over the whole vase to protect it. Here it is (notice the “folded in top”):

Now you’re thinking “How are we going to get these paper flowers to stand up in the vase all nice a straight?” Well, you just need something to stick them in, which will also weigh the vase down. Anything you have on hand will do, some sand, some dry beans, rice. I happened to have a bag of chicken feed right on the hutch next to me… yes, I know, it’s strange, but it was there and it works! Just dump your stuff into your vase and arrange the flowers in your vase. I had a few extras so I tied a ribbon around my vase and glued on of the flowers to it:

You know we all get those cheap plastic Easter eggs from the store. They are cute and colorful, but they are just screaming out to be decorated. Today I will show you a quick and easy way to take those cheap plastic eggs and make some cute little Easter decorations! Don't forget to put a surprise inside!

Hi! It’s almost Easter! This week on The Hybrid Chick we are going to show hybrid projects you can make for Easter! This should be fun! Let’s get started.

Today we are going to decorate those cheap plastic Easter eggs. We all have them, so lets doll them up a bit!

The supplies you will need are…
Plastic Easter eggs, I used the larger ones
ModPodge, Scissors, decorative scissors, Ribbon, distress ink in brown, double sided foam tape, scotch tape, chipboard or cereal box
Photo Editing Software, Printer, Matte photo paper
A cute Eastery digi kit…I used The Vintage Easter Epoxy and Paper by, Quirky Twerp

The first thing we need to do is design your egg decor in Photo Shop. These are super simple. Just take all the little Easter Epoxies and drag them onto an 8.5×11 file and print that. Then make a paper strip for each egg out of the papers. mine are like and inch and a half. Drag those all onto another 8.5×11 file and print that.

Then paint both of them in a coat of Mod Podge. The paper will curl a bit, but will flatten as it dries. Just paint a nice thin layer all over them.

After it’s dry take the Epoxy circles and glue them to the cereal box/chipboard with another coat of Mod Podge.

While that is drying you can cut out your strips. I used “Cloud” decorative edge scissors. Then ink the edges of the strips. When the circles are dry do the same, cut and ink.

Next I added a little piece of ribbon to the circles. Just cut a piece off and fold it with the 2 ends meeting in back of the circles. Then stick it down with a piece of double sided foam tape.

Now all you have left to do is wrap them around you Easter Egg and tape it in the back. I did place a few heavy books on them for a few hours first though. To get them nice and stuck together.

Here they are!

It's challenge day here at The Hybrid Chick. Let's talk about recycling. We all know we need to do it, but sometimes it gets boring. Well, why not take something you have around the house that you would normally throw away and make something beautiful instead!

Hello all you Hybrid Chickies! I hope you are enjoying the new Hybrid challenges here on The Hybrid chick! I know I am!

Let’s dive right in with some examples of Hybrid recycling. I love to make projects with things I find laying around. Who wants to spend money, right? I want to save all mine for Digi Kits!

I did a tutorial on candle wraps a bit ago..they look awesome and make a great gift. Instead of going out and buying Chipboard, I just used a cereal box!

Here is another candle wrap I made with more cereal boxes. I gave this away as a gift for BUNKO. The girls loved it.

I made these Photo Blocks with a piece of wood that was laying around in the garage.

Look at this project, by Jessica, using an empty Hot Cocoa tin.

And how about these flowers made from yogurt containers!

Oh and look at these cute containers made from recycled ribbon spools!

Look at this one using a mint tin! Mint tins make the cutest little mini albums too.

There is so much you can do when you get creative with your recyclables!

So, your challenge is just that, make a hybrid project with an item you would normally throw away!

What will you win? The wonderful and talented designer Mel Wilson has a super cute prize for you.

You all know those lunchable containers? Well, Mel has come up with a way to recycle it into an adorable gift!

I love to decorate for the holidays. All of them! But, of course it's not in my budget to buy decorations for every holiday. So, I like to make my own! It's so fun and easy too. I made a cute little sign to hang on my wall. Today I will show you how I did it!

This is a really easy project that turns out really cute when you are all finished! You only need a few things to make it. Let’s get started!

The supplies you will need are:

Your digi scrapbooking program and a cute digi kit. I used the kit My Little Valentine by, Quirky Twerp
Your printer and paper, I use epson matte photo paper
Some chipboard, or recycle something like a cereal box!
Modpodge, Glue Stick, Scissors, Ribbon, Crop O Dile (or something to punch holes) Distress ink

The first step is to design your sign in your Photo Editing Program. I took some of the cute elements and word art in the kit and resized it to fit on an 8.5×11 piece of paper. I put them all on one sheet and printed it out in landscape mode.
After I printed it out I covered them all in ModPodge to seal them.

Just paint it on and let it dry. It will curl a little but will flatten back out when it’s dry.
After they are dry cut them out roughly and glue them to your chipboard (I used the piece of chipboard that came in my pack of printer paper..LOL gotta love recycling)
Then paint on another coat of ModPodge on your pieces, and over the edges a bit.

Once those dry you will cut them out. Take your time and use some nice sharp pointy scissors.

I like to ink my edges once they are all cut out. It gives them a nice classy, finished look. I just use a q-tip and distress ink. Here they are all inked up.

Now we are going to put all these parts together. I used my Crop a Dile to punch the holes. It works great. Really all you do is line it all up how you want it to hang. Punch the holes and add the eyelets if your want to. I had a few pink heart shaped eyelets so i used those.

The last step is to tie it all together with some cute ribbons!

I told you it was simple! Everything I used I already had! Super simple and cute!

Today we are going to make some really cool Photo Blocks!

Yes, we are going to visit the hardware store for this one! But, really it’s fun and easy. Let’s get started.
The supplies you will need are…

From the hardware Store…
1 1×4

A table saw or have them cut it at the hardware store for you
Sandpaper, medium and fine grit

From the craft store or your stash…
Glue, I used an extra strong glue embellishment glue stick by Pioneer
Mod Podge, I used Matte
Craft paint, paintbrush
Scissors, Craft Knife
Flat Wooden Letters
Ribbon

Digital Items….
A cute Digi Kit, I used Winelands a Collaboration by, Mari Koegelenberg and Sarah Jones

Your photo editing program
Printer and Matte Photo paper

OK, lets get crafting! The first step is to get your piece of wood and measure it. My piece of wood is a 1×4, but it really is not 4 inches wide it’s like 3 1/2. I dont really know why they call it a 1×4 if it’s 1×3 1/2, but hey..what do you do! haha! So, I had my hubs get out the table saw and cut my wood into 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch squares. The first time I made these my Hubs was out of town and I pulled out the saw and cut them all by myself, it’s really not hard. Just KEEP your fingers AWAY from the blade! And put on some safety glasses! You can also have them cut the wood for you at the hardware store. I don’t even think they charge for cutting, but I’m not sure.

OK, so your wood is all cut into 3.5 x 3.5 squares. Now you need to sand the edges nice and smooth. Sand them with your medium grit paper first and then smooth them with the fine grit sand paper.

Now take out the craft paint and paint your wood on all sides and let them dry.

While your paint is drying, open up your photo editing program and design your pictures to put on your squares of wood. I made mine for my BFF for her Birthday. I used pictures of her 4 boys and a kit in the colors of her living room! Winelands was the perfect kit because her kitchen and living room are done in a winery theme!

OK, so I have all my 4 squares designed. Now I need to pick some paper to use for my letters. The little wooden letters are about 2×2 inches so I make a new file that is 2 inches by 2 inches, duplicate it 4 times and choose 4 papers and drag them into the 2×2 files, (resize the paper to the look you want).

Now time to print them all out. The best way to do this is to make an 8.5×11 file and drag all 4 of your big squares and all 4 of your little squares into that one file so you can print them all out at once, like this…

So, now you have your digi part of the project all printed out and your blocks are sanded and the paint is dry, let’s put these babies together!

First step is to glue the pictures to the blocks. I like to use the extra strong glue stick for this. Put glue ALL over the back of the paper and press it and smooth it onto the block.

Then seal the edges and cover the front with your Mod Podge. Some people will use the Mod Podge to glue the paper to the block, but I get bubbles when I do that! I have found that if you stick it on first with a glue stick and then seal it with the Mod Podge you get no bubbles!

You will do the same thing with your letters. Just place your letter on the printed paper and trace around the letter then cut it out. Do the same process as the squares for the letters…glue it on with the glue stick and finish with the Mod Podge.

Now you just have to wait for all the Mod Podge to dry. I waited till the next day, but you can give it a few hours and you should be good.

I like to add some ribbon to my letters too, just tie them on, then glue your letters to your blocks.

I like to put ribbon around the edges too! Here are my finished Photo Blocks! I know my BFF will love them!

I thought it would be fun to make a fun little Nativity Scene that the kids could play with. You can use the little people and tell the Christmas Story. It’s really easy and the kids can even make them with you!

Let’s get started.
What you will need:
A cute digi kit with some Nativity Story people I used All is Calm by, Jan Hosford (or any characters that you would like to use)
A printer and Photo Editing Program I use PSE
Some magnetic paper, you can get the kind that fits right in the printer for and even easier project
Scissors, Sanding Block, Distress ink, Mod Podge

The first step is to open all of your digital elements in you photo editing program. All you really need to do is resize the figures to fit on whatever size magnet paper you have. I had a sheet of magnetic paper that was 10×12 so I resized all my figures and dragged them into a new file that was 10×12 to be sure they’d all fit on my magnetic paper…then, since my printer is 8.5×11, I fit them onto 2 pieces of 8.5×11 paper and printed them out on matte photo paper. Here they are:

Then cut out your figures leaving a little bit of the white paper around the edges, like this.

Then I stuck them onto the sticky side of the magnetic paper:

The next part will take a little time. You just need to cut out all your little people. Get your self some pointy small scissors and sit in a comfy spot and start cutting. Great time to watch a little tv while you cut. If you want to be picky like me you can sand and ink your edges too. It just gives them a nice finished look, like this:

You can call them done now if you want, but if you have kids like mine, they might need a little bit of protection. So get out the Mod Podge, lay them all out on a non stick surface and brush them all with the Mod Podge, making sure to get it all around the edges, like this.

Close up…

It will dry nice and clear.
When they are all nice and dry pull them off the nonstick surface. You might have to pick or sand a little bit of the Mod Podge around the edges, but after that, you are done! Time to play!

Yes, you can use your digital scrapbooking supplies to make Christmas Trees!
I made Christmas Tree Picture Holders. All you need is the right template and some cute paper and pictures and you are in business! Come see how!

I know it’s only November…but Christmas is right around the corner! It’s time to start getting those decorations and gifts made.

I saw these Tree Templates by Kelleigh Ratzlaff in The Digi Chick store and I HAD to use them!

Here is what you will need for this project…
Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s Christmas Tree Template, they are in her Nov grab bag!
A cute digi kit with an Alpha. I used the kit Joyful by Kelley Mickus, it’s in her Nov grab bag too!
Pictures
Matte photo paper or cardstock, printer
scissors, glue, bone folder, ruler, craft knife
Decrorative wire, fibers
So the first step is to design your trees in you photo editing program. It’s easy just clip your papers to the layers in the template. Then decorate with your digi elements. Then you need to size your pictures down to match up with the trees and re-size your letters also. I wanted the word JOY. One letter for each tree. You will want 2 copies of each picture and 2 of each letter. Make sure you flip one letter backwards so you can glue the 2 back to back. Here are my printed goodies.

Next you cut out your printed images. Kelleighs templates are easy, you cut on the solid lines and fold on the dashed lines. Cute out all your trees, pictures and letters, you will have to use a craft knife for the middle of the O. Here they are all cut out.

Now you need to score and fold on the dashed lines of the trees.

So now lets put our little picture doo-dads together. You have your 2 little pictures cut out and ready to go. You need to curl you wire. All you need to do is wrap it around a pencil or pen, like this.

Then pull it off and its all curly.

Then you will put glue on both sides of your picture and flatten on edge of the wire, stick it in-between the 2 little pictures, press it down real good. I like to press them together with my bone folder. you will do this same process with your letters.

When they are all dry you can put them together with your trees. Just glue on the tabs of the tree templates.

And stick your fibers and wire picture and letter do-dads in the top of the tree.
Here’s a close up:

Now you can sit back and enjoy your Tree Picture Holders!

Today my project is super simple and fun! It's so simple pretty much all of the work is done for you! All you really need to do is print and add your goodies! What a fun way to jazz up a bag of candy and some cupcakes! Let's get started!

Hi! Halloween is approaching. It’s time to start getting all those treats ready! I love the idea of taking a plain brown bag or ziplock bag and making it into something special. I was having so much fun I threw in a few extra little monsters!
Here is what you need,
A fun and spooky digi kit, I used Monster in the Closet by Mari Koegelenberg the kit and the Treat Bag Toppers.
Cardstock or premium matte paper
Your photo editing program
Lunch bags, toothpicks, tape, goodies!

So this project is such a snap! It’s perfect for those who want to give Hybrid a try. The Treat Bag Toppers are all designed and Oh so cute! All you need to do is open them in your Photo Editing Program. I opened 2 blank files in 8.5×11 and drug 2 of the Treat Bag Toppers on to each page. That way I save paper by printing all 4 toppers on 2 pieces of paper. You just have to re-size them a tiny bit, and they still fit perfectly on the top of the lunch bag.
Now as I was getting the Treat Bag Toppers ready to print I decided to print out some of the cute little monsters in the kit. I re-sized those a bit too, just made them a wee bit smaller, to fit on the top of my cupcakes!
Here is what my pages looked like all printed out. As you can see, my 2 little boys were very interested in what I was doing and really thought the monsters were cool!

So the next step is to cute everything out. So grab your scissors and cute away. You will need little scissors to cut around the monster hands. Once they are all cut out take you tape and toothpicks and tape one toothpick to the back of each monster.

Now these little cupcake picks are done! Just stick them in your cupcakes!

Now the Treat Bag Toppers. Cut them out. Fill up your bag with treats and attach your Topper to the top of the bag! You can use staples! That’s it! What a simple way to make a fun and festive goodie bag!
Look how cute they are…

Here’s the whole little Mosterific Set! Cupcake Picks and Treat Bag Toppers! Perfect for a Halloween party!
