This year think outside the basket, Easter basket that is! Join me as I show you how to put together a quick and easy carrot box to hold your Easter treats.

Put away those plastic Easter eggs and make room for some carrot boxes! Not only do these boxes hold more candy than the average egg, but they make the perfect addition to any basket or place setting.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

Carrot Box Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

1 piece of green card stock

1 piece of orange card stock

Dark orange or brown marker

Scor-Pal

Bone Folder

Glue Glider Pro or Double Sided Tape

Stamped Image and Sentiment (I used Gina K. Designs Square Pegs)

Here is a photo of the finished project I will be sharing with you today.

Ready to get started? Great, here we go! We’ll start off with the carrot top.

Step 1: Cut the piece of green card stock 3″ wide by 6″ high. On the 6″ side score at 1″, turn your paper to the 3″ side and score every 1/4″ stopping at the 1″ mark you made on the 6″ side.

Step 2: Cut along the scored lines.

Step 3: Using your bone folder curl each strip by holding the bone folder under each strip and slide it all the way through – similar to how you would curl ribbon with a scissor. Be careful not to pull too hard or you’ll rip the strip.

Step 4: Add adhesive to the 1″ strip at the bottom of the curls.

Step 5: Roll strip onto itself.

Step 6: Once it’s all rolled up, add a bit more adhesive and re-curl any strips you’d like. Set it aside to work on the bottom of the carrot.

Step 7: On your piece of orange card stock print out your template – you can actually fit two on one piece of card stock. You can either print the lines dark as I’m showing you here or lighten up the lines…totally up to you. You won’t see the lines once it’s all put together, so go with whatever you’re comfortable with. Cut the template and score on all score lines.

Step 8: Add adhesive to the tab.

Step 9: Put template together, add candy, and tuck tabs in so you’ll end up with something that looks like this.

Step 10: Using a marker, add some dashes to give the carrot a more realistic look.

Step 11: Tuck carrot top inside carrot bottom.

With that you are done! To make it into a gift, I added a stamped imaged and sentiment to a basket, inserted the carrots, added some decorative eggs, and here’s what it looks like. It’s ready to be gifted!

Hope you have fun making these!

Using roses for embellishments is so popular right now. Join me as I walk you step-by-step on how to put some together. The great thing about these roses is that is that you will be able to pick the color and the size!

One thing I always like to have on hand is plenty of embellishments for my projects. As I sat down to start on my Valentine gifts as well as some Thank You gifts, I wondered over to the Digichick Boutique and came across the Paper Roses templates by The Cutting Files. I think it is such a brilliant idea – this allows you to make roses in any color and in any size. You will love how quickly they come together.

Here’s what you need to get started:

Paper Roses by The Cutting Files

Designer paper of your choice

Glue Dots

Liquid Glue (I used Tombow)

Bamboo Skewer

Pearls

Step 1: Lay out the number of flowers you want to print. I used my Silhouette and this is what my page looks like.

Step 2: After your flowers are cut, either by using the Silhouette or scissors, you should end up with items that look like these (I cut out 12 at a time, but will be showing you set of six).

Step 3: Taking one flower at a time, you will begin the rolling process. At this time, you will want to grab a wooden skewer as well. If you do not have a skewer, anything similar in shape and size will work as well.

Starting on the outer edge, you will begin rolling the paper around the skewer.

Step 4: Every other turn or so, add a little dab of liquid glue.

Step 5: When you get to the end, add a couple of glue dots to the round sections of the rose and adhere them to the bottom of the rose.

Step 6: Once dry, start rolling back some of the petals, either with your finger or use the skewer to help you do so.

Step 7: Add a pearl in the middle.

With that you are done. You should end up with roses that look like these.

I put a treat holder together to show you what they look like on a project. I am using the soon to be released Gina K. Designs set called Where Your Heart Is.

Hope you have fun making these…they really are so easy to put together and you can sit down and make a whole bunch at a time!

With the new year quickly upon us, it is the perfect time to get started making some packaging for upcoming events. Join me as I show you how to alter a gift box into a purse, perfect for a small gift.

As we say goodbye to this year, we welcome a new year which brings us new reasons to celebrate. We will come together to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, or perhaps a new baby. Regardless of what the reason is, there will always be a need for a card or a small gift. Every January, I try to get organized and work on packages and cards for upcoming events, yet I still seem to always be scrambling at the last minute.

I decided to do things differently for the upcoming year. Instead of planning for the whole year, I’m going to work on projects for events that are coming up in the next three months and see how that goes. With that in mind, I have a couple of girlfriends who will be celebrating their birthdays in January and they were my inspiration for the mini purse I’ll be sharing with you today. In this purse, I can fit small items such as a bracelet or even tickets to a show.

It came together quite quickly, as you will soon see.

Ready to get started? Great, here is what you’ll need to get started:

Chomper or Corner Rounder Punch

Crop-a-Dile

Step 1: Print out the desired box size onto patterned paper and cut it out. I used an exacto knife and ruler, but scissors work just as well.

Step 2: With the Chomper or Corner Rounder punch, round the flap’s corners.

Step 3: On each of the sides of the box, measure 2″ down and 3/4″ in and punch a hole in order to set an eyelet. Do this on both sides.

Step 4: Thread ribbon and tie on the inside of the box. This is now your handle and the box is now turning into a purse.

Step 5: Assemble box and adhere it together using Double-Sided tape. Pinch the sides together and tuck the flap’s tab into the opening on the front of the box.

When you’re done it should look like this. Set purse aside to work on the embellishment and sentiment.

Step 6: To make flower, I used three flower petals made out of fabric, a pearl, and a needle/thread.

Step 7: Layer all the petals on top of each other. Thread needle through all the petals and pearl. Do this several times until you feel the embellishment will not fall apart.

When you are done, you will end up with a flower that looks like this.

Step 8: Stamp sentiment onto a piece of card stock, punch it out, and adhere it and flower to the purse. With that, you are done!

Here’s a photo of the finished project again.

Have fun making these and hope you and yours have a wonderful New Year!

During this time of giving, I can not think of anything better than giving your loved ones a gift they can cherish for years to come. Join me as I walk you through a tutorial on making a unique gift.

My family started a Christmas tradition a few years back of giving each other stocking stuffers…the kids still get gifts of course. No gift cards are allowed and creativity is highly encouraged. I am the family photographer and thought that instead of albums this year a DVD would be fun. I created a compilation of family photos I’ve taken throughout the year and saved them onto DVDs to give to each of them.

When I saw the CD Card with Pockets by The Cutting Files, I knew it was the perfect holder. I also decided to use the newly released Blitzen Starter Kit by BasicGrey.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

CD Card with Pockets by The Cutting Files

Blitzen Starter Kit by BasicGrey

Heavy card stock (I used Bazzill card stock)

HP Presentation Paper

Decorative Scissors

Double-Sided Tape

Ruler

Exacto Knife

DVD

DVD Label

Ribbon

Button

Twine

Rhinestone

Step 1: Print and cut out the CD base onto your card stock. I used the Silhouette to do so, but you can use your printer and cut it out. Score both sides by lining up the dashes with a ruler.

Step 2: Create the frame for the front of the holder. Here are the steps I took using Blitzen Starter Kit by BasicGrey.

Step 3: Use decorative scissors to cut out the frame in order to give the edges a bit of a decorative style and adhered it to the front of the holder.

Step 4: Using an exacto knife and a ruler, make 2″ cuts on each of the folded edges of the holder in order to thread some ribbon through.

Step 5: Thread a strip of ribbon and tie it into a bow.

Step 6: Set the holder aside to work on the pocket. Print a pocket and front panels (I just shrunk the front panels of the holder in order to adhere them later) using the Dasher paper from BasicGrey’s Blitzen Starter Kit. Score the pocket where appropriate.

Step 7: Add some double-sided tape to put the pocket together.

Step 8: Add more tape in order to adhere it to the holder.

Step 9: Adhere it to the holder and set it aside to work on the DVD.

Step 10: I wanted to dress up my DVD so that my family would know right away which one was the one I gave them. I found some DVD Labels I could run through my printer. Print the Jack Frost paper from BasicGrey’s Blitzen Starter Kit onto the label and adhere it to the DVD. Here are the before and after photos.

Fun or what?!!! Love how it dresses up a DVD.

Step 11: Place it inside the holder and this is what you’ll end up with.

Step 12: To the closure part of the holder, add a button, some twine, and the Celebrate the Season label from BasicGrey’s Blitzen Starter Kit.

Step 13: The finishing touch for the holder is some rhinestones on top of the berries.

With that, you’re all done! Hope you have fun making these and sharing some wonderful memories with your loved ones!

Around this time of the year, I like to be a proactive and not only start tackling my holiday projects, but also put some thank you gifts together for the hostesses of parties I’ll be attending.

There are typically three or four annual parties and I like to put together a couple of extra last-minute gifts for any occasions that may pop up.

When I first spotted The Cutting Files designed Mari Koegelenberg, I immediately gravitated to the Gift Baskets file.

Mari’s templates come in AI, GSD, DXF, JPEG, PDF, PNG, PSD and SVG Formats.

I thought it might be fun to add a plant or flower arrangement and came up with this.

This is what you will need to make one of your own:

Gift Baskets from The Cutting Files designed by Mari Koegelenberg

A piece of patterned paper (I used My Mind’s Eye Stomp Big Attitude Plaid Sky Paper)

A piece of coordinating card stock

Double-sided tape

Styrofoam glue

Ribbon

Twine

Styrofoam

Ruler

Bone Folder

Spellinders Die (I used Labels 5)

Stamp image and sentiment ( I used Gina K. Stamps Fanciful Fall designed by Theresa Momber)

Memento Tuxedo Black Ink

Copics

Dried Flower or Fall Arrangement (I used a dried Wheat bundle)

Ready to get started? Here we go:

Step 1: Print out the basket of your choice (you actually get three different styles when you purchase this file) onto a piece of card stock and then again onto a piece of patterned paper. Cut out the baskets using your cutting machine or as I did here, with scissors.

Step 2: Adhere the baskets together, make sure you leave markings showing on one of pieces so you will know where to score.

Step 3: Align your ruler on each tab and with your Bone Folder make solid, deep score lines from one dash to the other. Do this to all sides and turn your basket over.

Step 4: Add double-sided tape to all tabs, peel them and put basket together.

Step 5: Adhere a strip of ribbon around basket, securing with double sided tape, and tie a bow on the front of basket

Step 6: Set basket aside to work on your tag. Stamp image and sentiment, for my tag I stamped the sentiment inside the image.

Step 7: Color image and cut out with a die, I used Spellbinders Labels 5.

Step 8: Adhere a piece of Styrofoam to the bottom and put your flower arrangement together. I used Styrofoam glue to ensure adherence.

Step 9: Tie tag around arrangement with some twine and with that you are done!

Here’s a photo of the finished project again.

A menu planner is one of those items that not only saves you time but also takes the guessing out of what's for dinner. Join me today as I show you how to make a menu planner that is reusable and decorative! Let's get started!

What’s for dinner? This is a question I hear a lot around my house and thought it would be great to have a menu planner that would be accessible to all. In continuing with my theme from my last post, Going Green, I wanted to make this planner something I could reuse time and time again.

With the aid of Mari Koegelenberg Whats Cooking? The Collection kit, a fun new stamp from My Favorite Things called WTG Goes Green, and some non~digi items, I did just that.

Here’s what my project looks like finished.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Whats Cooking? The Collection by Mari Koegelenberg

Self~Adhesive Vinyl Cover (I used Kittrich Clear Magic Cover Self~Adhesive Vinyl Deocrative Coverings)

Dry Erase Board

Eraser Pen/Eraser

Ribbon

Grocery or Kitchen themed Stamps (I used My Favorite Things WTG Goes Green)

Patterned Paper or Color Card Stock

Staz~On Ink

Memento Tuxedo Black Ink

Copic Markers

All Purpose Glue

Magnet Tape

Brayer

Step 1: Make sure your Dry Erase Board is Clean and set it aside to work on your shopping list and menu planner sheet. From the Whats Cooking? The Collection you’ll need the following:

Shopping List 001

Menu Planner 001

Divider 001

Flower 007

Brad 001

Step 2: Arrange as many Shopping List images as possible on your canvas so that you’re able to utilize as much as the paper as possible. Here’s what it looked like on my screen.

Print it and cut it out…set aside to work on the planner sheets.

Step 3: The bottom layer of the planner is the divider, followed by the menu planner image and on the side, I added the flower and brad (I showed you in post HERE, how I put the brad and flowers together). Here’s what the planners look like arranged and ready to be printed out.

Print it and cut it out, set it aside. Grab a couple of pieces of vinyl cover big enough to cover the shopping list and menu planner. Here’s what it looks like before applying it to the Shopping List.

Step 4: Peel off one edge of the vinyl cover and adhered it to the shopping list just above the edge (you will cut this later) and using your Brayer to assure complete adherence.

Cut off any extra vinyl and grab some magnets ~ I found some that are in a tape dispenser which is so much easier to apply to projects. Now you will be able to use this same sheet over and over again with a dry erase pen…don’t you just love that?!

Step 5:Add a piece of magnet to the top and bottom of the shopping list and two pieces to the board.

Step 8: Repeat the same process with the menu planner sheets and stamp image onto lower right corner off board with Staz~On ink. Set it aside to dry.

Step 9: Stamp the image on patterned paper and/or whatever color card stock you decide to use and paper piece the image on the board. Set it aside to work on the marker.

Step 10: Cover the marker with ribbon and hang it from the top of the board with some twill or ribbon. On the twill I stamped the recycle sign to continue the theme and hammered a small nail to hang it. Here you will also see that I used the same flower/brad combo to decorate the pen as well.

With that, you are done! Here’s a closer up of the image paper pieced.

Here’s the finished board once again.

Happy Monday and hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

I have two very fun and useful projects to share with you today and to kick off your week on a good note ~ a give away!!! Who doesn’t love those?! All the details for the give away are at the bottom so I hope you’ll play along!

To put my projects together I used the amazing and oh so fun kit from Mari Koegelenberg called Whats Cooking? The Collection. The first project I’m going to share with you today is a fabric transfer project using an iron-on transfer sheet.

Here’s what the project looks like finished:

Here’s what you’ll need:

Whats Cooking? The Collection by Mari Koegelenberg

A fabric bag

Avery Fabric Transfers (there are several, so make sure you select the correct one, light or dark depending on the color of your fabric)

An iron

An embellishment ~ I used some Prima Flowers for mine

Step 1: Create the design you will be printing onto the iron-on transfer. I used the what’s cooking? frame twice, once as is and again to add an additional dotted frame around the original design. I managed to fit two on an 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet, by positioning them like this:

Step 2: Print out your designs onto a Avery Fabric Transfer sheet and cut it out as close to the design as possible.

Step 3: Make sure the area where you will be adding your design has little to no wrinkles and add your iron-on sheet with design facing the bag. Follow the instructions to determine the amount of time you need to press the iron to the design.

Side note: I’m sad to share that this is the most I have used my iron in a year…don’t know what I would do without my dry cleaners!

Step 4: After letting the iron-on transfer cool, peel away backing, and finish embellishing as you’d like! Here’s a close up of the design on the bag.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next project is a tag. As I mentioned above, I’m using the same digi kit ~ Whats Cooking? The Collection, but this time to alter a chipboard tag. Here’s what you’ll need:
Whats Cooking? The Collection by Mari Koegelenberg
Epson Premium Presentation Paper
Chipboard Tag (I’m using a Maya Road tag)
Mist Spray (I used Maya Road’s Avocado Metallic Mist)
Glue
Ball and Chain or Ribbon (something to hang tag with)
Optional: halfback pearls or brads
Here’s what the project looks like finished.
Step 1: Spray your chipboard with some mist on both sides and set it aside to dry.
Here’s what it looks like after I sprayed it once and the finished tag you will see in later steps is after two coats; which by the way, doesn’t take very long:
Step 2: Create the design you’d like to add to your tag. From the kit I added the blank label, typed in what I wanted the tag to read and added a flower element. Below the frame I show you how I put the flower together.
I used the flower 7 image twice (the one the left I lightened by decreasing the opacity and fill) and the brad 1 image.
Step 3: Try to fit as many tags as possible onto your document so that you waste as little paper as possible. I was able to fit four by arranging them as such:
Step 4: Cut out your design and adhere it to the dry chipboard tag. Embellish further if you’d like; add ball and chair or ribbon; and you are done! Here’s what it looks like once again.
I plan to add theses to my scrapbooking bags so that I can easily identify them when I go to crops; to my carry on luggage; and to my camera bag.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Challenge & Give Away:

Challenge:You will have three opportunities to have your name entered into a random drawing to win this fun Maya Chipboard Calendar Album.

With Teacher Appreciation week quickly approaching, some of us Hybrid Chicks got together and have planned a week full of teacher gift ideas and projects. Join me as I kick off the week with a fun note card set packaged in a backpack!

Teachers are rarely recognized for all they do. As Teacher Appreciation week approaches as well, for some of us, the end of the school year; why not get a head start on some gifts! I have a fun one to kick off this week.

Teachers receive all kinds of gifts, from gift cards to chocolates. All those items are great, but why not give them something they’re always in need of…Thank You cards and/or note cards!

Using Melissa Wilsons and MKC’s Back to School – Backpack Album, I came up with this note card holder.

Here’s what you’ll need to make one of your own:

Melissa Wilsons and MKC’s Back to School – Backpack Album

Card Stock ~ Red for the backpack and white for the note cards

Pattern Paper

Sewing Machine

Rubber Stamps

Ink

Ribbon

Brad

Double Sided Tape

Eyelets

Crop-a-Dile

Step 1:Print out backpack on pattern paper as well as Journaling card to use for note cards. Once you print them out, cut them out and you should end up with something like this (this is the inside of the backpack.

Step 2: OPTIONAL ~ At this point if you’d like to add some sewing do so. I ran each piece through my sewing machine to give the edges a bit more interest. Here’s what the front looks like when done.

Step 3: Assemble the backpack and set it aside to work on the closure. I wanted to used magnets as closure but being that they’re so ugly, I wanted to hide them. I used a ribbon flower and a flower I punched out of card stock to do just that. You can use any decorative item that might hide the magnets. Here’s what mine look like.

Step 4: Adhere them to the backpack as well as some eyelets in order to thread some ribbon~ this ribbon becomes the straps of the backpack as well as the handle on top. Here’s a view of the back of the backpack.

Step 5: Decorate the front as you’d like. I added a stamped image with some embellishments, the flower closure with magnets, and this is what the front looks like.

Step 6: To hide the ribbon ends on the inside, use card stock to cover up the middle of the backpack.

Step 7: Add a piece of double-sided tape to adhere the ribbon that will tie all the note cards together. Here’s what it looks like.

Step 8: After you adhered the ribbon, put it aside to work on the note cards. Print out some journaling cards from the same kit to use as backgrounds for the note cards. Here’s what the document looks like.

Step 9:Cut out the journaling cards, add some stamped images and/or sentiments and assemble your card. You can pretty much make them however you want, here’s what mine look like.

Step 10: Put note cards and envelopes and place them inside the back pack in the middle of the ribbon you prepared earlier. Tie them up and you’re done! Here’s what the inside looks like assembled.

Here again is a photo of the finished project.

I recently formed a book club with a group of friends. I was elected to select the first book and I thought a bookmark would make a nice gift to give each of them. When I sat down to design the bookmark, I knew I wanted to give the bookmark a vintage look ~ buttons, flowers, ribbon, pearls, etc. The problem is that all those items are bulky and not very practical to put in book. A problem, unless you go digital! In this tutorial I will show you how to create a vintage look minus all the bulk ~ ready to get started? Great, here we go.

Supplies:

Read All Over Mini Kit by Elise’s Pieces Designs

Photoshop

Sentiment ~ I used a Gina K. Designs sentiment from the Hand-in-hand set designed by Melanie Muenchinger

Epson Premium Presentation Paper

Gingham Ribbon

Gems: Pearls, teardrop beads, round beads

Hole Punch

We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper Tool

Step 1: Open a new document in Photoshop. I like to start with 300 dpi and 8-1/2″ x 11″ since that is the size of the paper I will be printing my project on.

Step 2: Place the bookmark from the Read All Over Mini Kit by Elise’s Pieces Designs onto your document.

Step 3: Add newspaper print paper (paper7) to the bottom half of the bookmark.

Step 4: Place lace border just above the newspaper print section.

Step 5: Add Flower1 image to the middle of the bookmark towards the left.

Step 6: Select all your layers and make a copy so that you end up with two bookmarks.

Step 7: I flattened the layers and then with the clone tool I was able to erase the digital ribbons. I did this because I will be adding some physical ribbon instead.

Step 8:Print your document; cut out the bookmarks; use the Corner Chomper on each corner; and punch a hole towards the top (in the middle) of your bookmark.

Step 9: Stamp the sentiment of your choice below the hole you just punched. Thread some gingham ribbon with some gems threaded through each tail and you are done! Your bookmark should like this.

A quick and easy bookmark that I’m sure my friends will keep for a long time to come! Hope you’ll give it a try and don’t forget to link back here so I can check out your version!

Happy Monday! I have a confession to make, I LOVE purses…in fact I lost count at about 20ish or so. It doesn’t help that my mom feeds this obsession, but trust me I don’t complain. When I started paper crafting one of the first things I made was a paper purse and have been hooked on making paper purses of all kinds ever since. When I was browsing The Digichick Shop trying to decided what to make, I came across the Sassy Purse #3 template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs and I just knew what I wanted to do with it. Hope you enjoy my tutorial as much as I like putting it together for you ~ here we go!

Digital Items:

Sassy Purse #3 by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs

Strawberry Cafe [Revised] by Sugarplum Paperie

Physical Items:

Claudine Hellmuth Studio Sticky-back Canvas by Ranger

BasicGrey Magnetic Snaps

Zva Creative ~ Pearl and Rhinestone rounds

Brads

Double-Sided Tape

Crop-a-Dile

Sewing Machine

Step 1: Design the front of the purse ~ I used the elements from Sugarplum Paperie’s Strawberry Cafe [Revised] kit. Next add paper to the front, clasp, and handle ~ I used the paper from Sugarplum Paperie’s Strawberry Cafe [Revised] kit and print it out on a piece of sticky-canvas.

Step 2: Open a new document and using the same purse template, add a digi paper to use as a liner (the inside) of the purse. I used a paper from Sugarplum Paperie’s Strawberry Cafe [Revised] kit. These pieces are important to add because it not only makes the purse look more polished, but it also works as a support so the purse is able to hold it’s shape.

Step 3: On another piece of sticky-canvas, print out any additional items ~ I printed out some hearts. Here’s a photo of all the elements cut out.

Step 4: Add the liner pieces to all the canvas pieces. The easiest way I found to do this, is to peel the backing from the canvas a little at a time, taking time to align both pieces together.

Step 5: I added double-sided tape and assembled the box. I then added some rhinestones around the stem for some glitz.

Step 6: I also wanted to add some fun details to the handle and clasp, so I used my sewing machine to add some zig-zag lines around the edge of the handle and clasp.

Step 7: For some additional details, to the clasp I added some hearts with halfback pearls and to the handle some hearts with brads which I will use to attach it to the purse.

Step 8: I used the Crop-a-Dile to make punch holes on the purse, handle, and clasp. I attached the handle and clasp to the purse with some brads and then moved on to the closure.

Step 9: For the closure, I added some magnetic snaps to the purse and end of the clasp.

Step 10: I finished the purse by adding a flower button with a black brad to the front. Here’s a photo of the front of the purse.

It’s ready to be filled with some note cards or perhaps a treat! Here’s a photo of it with the note cards.
