This is my first post for the Hybrid Chick and I hope you like what I have made. It is nice to have pictures of loved ones around the home and this is a fun and decorative way to do it. My Granddaughter is very dear to me and I like to have pictures around me to remind me of her growing up. This hanger worked out perfectly. I did not want it too big. The overall length is approx. 15″ (48 cm) including the hanging ribbon at the top which is approx. 5″(12 cm). The width at the widest part at the base of the cage is approx. 4″(10 cm). Of course you can choose the size to suit yourself when using Photoshop or your preferred software package.
- Thick card
- Gel/PVA Glue
- Double sided tape
- Foam pads
- Bundled Sage ink pad
Using your chosen software and the SHERWOOD WINTER CAPRICE KIT, resize the birdcage (size as shown above) and two frames. The large frame is approx. 2″ (approx. 50 cm) and the small frame approx. 1 1/2″ (approx. 38 cm) and add your photo’s to the frames. Don’t worry if you do not have software capable of doing this. You can add your chosen images to a Microsoft word page and resize. If you do it this way you will need to print out your frames and cut out the centres. You can then size and print out your photo’s to fit the frames.
Choose and print out some flowers, birds and butterflies in various sizes to use for embellishments. I printed out more than I needed as I was not sure how many I would use for my design layout. Cut out all out all the elements and back the bird cage and frames with thick card or board. I curled the flower petals, bird and butterfly with a thin pencil to add dimension.
Ink the edges of the cage and frames. I used Bundled Sage distress ink as that was the nearest colour match I had in my stash.
Punch a hole in the top of the cage and two holes in the top of the largest frame with a Crop-o-dile or similar tool. Gather together your embellishments to assemble your hanger.
Arrange your embellishments to suit yourself and glue to the birdcage. I added foam pads to the back of the small frame, flowers, butterfly, bows and bird to give a 3D effect. The ribbon holding the frame at the bottom is glued to the back of the hanger.
I hope you like my project! and if you create one of your own, I’d love to see it!
