Gift Card Holder!
‘Tis the season to be jolly… {insert record scratch here*}
I know, I know. We haven’t even gotten to Halloween yet and already most major retailers are trying to shove Christmas marketing down our throats! Well, the fact remains that we are a mere 2 months away from Christmas Eve, and one of the easiest gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people is a gift card! Paper Garden Projects has a wonderful set of cutting files that make the cutest gift card holders ever!
Now I’m not going to assault your eyes with a Christmas card holder, but I did want to put the Christmas idea in your head so you can get a jump-start on your Christmas gift crafting! However, this set of cutting files is so wonderfully easy to assemble that you’ll be able to wait until the last minute and still create an adorable package for the ubiquitous gift card.
Supplies I used:
- Fall Festival digital kit by Elise’s Pieces
- Gift Card Folders Cutting Files by Paper Garden Projects
- Epson double-sided matte presentation paper
- color printer
- Silhouette Studio DE software
- Glue Arts GlueGliderPro PermaTac adhesive
- happy birthday stamp from the Back2Basics stamp set by The {Stamps} of Life
- Licorice ink by Stephanie Barnard & ColorBox
I decided to work with Fall Festival by Elise’s Pieces. I love the warm colors in this fall-themed kit!
First, you’ll want to print one entire side of your paper in the same pattern you use for the folder. I did this by opening the paper in Photoshop, then reducing the canvas size from 12×12 to 8.5×11 (just make sure you don’t save the original file like this!). I selected borderless printing, and printed the document.
Next, I opened the Silhouette Studio DE software and brought in the scalloped gift card folder svg file. Using the method detailed here, I added my patterned papers to the three shapes in the file. The cutting files actually come with two sets of files, one is for the actual folder, belly band, and medallion and the other is for the mats. I opted to just use the basic file set instead of both.
You will notice that when I turn on the registration marks, the folder doesn’t quite fit within the margins for using the print and cut feature.
To work around that limitation, I selected the rectangle tool and drew a box around the folder that filled the paper from top to bottom and added about 1/4″ to either side of the folder. Then I added the same patterned paper to the rectangle, and sent it to the back so the cut lines would be on top.
I went to the cut lines window and turned off the cut lines for the large rectangle and the other two pieces. I unchecked the reg marks box, and saved the studio file.
I created a second studio file by selecting “save as” on the original file and giving it a new name. I checked the reg marks box, turned off the cut lines for the folder and turned on the cut lines for the medallion and belly band.
I printed this document and then ran it through the Silhouette twice – once using this studio file, and once using the original studio file.
Assembling this folder is super-easy! Just fold the narrow rectangles up in a mountain fold.
Then fold the other flap to form the front of the card, wrap the belly band around, and attach the medallion!
And there you go! You have a fabulous gift card holder that will be as appreciated as what’s inside!
