Paper Lantern
This is a super quick project that is just adorable and can be modified for just about any occasion. Think wedding, Halloween, and Christmas. Make a bunch and string them along a door way for a great decoration.
PROJECT SUPPLIES
- Square Paper Lantern [hybrid template] by Girl Boy Girl Boy Designs
- Patterned paper
- Vellum
- Double sided tape
- Embellishments such as decorative border punch, dies, flowers
This template is provided in several different file types including an SVG so it can be used with an electronic cutter or cut out manually.

I chose to print out the template and cut it out myself using a ruler and craft knife.
I altered the template a little by triming out the window pain parts.
The openings were faced on the wrong side with vellum.
The bottom of the lantern was assembled with the double sided tape.
The top was cut out and assembled. Note the open edges, this allows the handle to be thread through the top.
I chose to make a fancier handle by layering a strip that had been punched with a decorative edge and a smaller strip of the patterned paper.
Attach the edge of the handle to the inside of one side of the bottom portion of the lantern.
Thread the handle through the top as shown.
Loop the handle through the other side of the top and adhere the end to the bottom part of the lantern. This allows the top to slide up and down to give room to insert the candle (no real ones obviously, but the small electric ones are perfect) into the lantern.
Pretty cute as is but I added a few embellishments. I used some dies to make a flourish and a flower.
This is a versatile template with so many decorative possibilities and is so easy to put together.
Thanks so much for visiting today!
