Magical Coloring Birthday Card

July 30, 2012 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: cards, digital stamps, Do it Yourself, Magical Coloring Birthday Card, Paper Garden Projects

I love celebrating birthdays- they are a great excuse for crafting and shopping!

When I saw Paper Garden Projects come out with a new birthday kit, I was extra thrilled to see the addition of digital stamps in both black & white as well as color versions since they would be perfect to create a card with an image that magically colored itself as the recipient was pulling out the birthday tag.

Supplies:

  • Paper Garden Projects- Birthday Buddies Hybrid Card Crafting Kit
  • Paper Garden Projects Birthday Buddies Digital Stamps
  • Two pieces of 8.5 inch x 11 inch cardstock/ patterned paper (I used bluebird and white cardstock)
  • Two digital stamp images printed on transparency paper (one black & white/ one color)
  • One metal brad/ eyelet
  • One inch hole punch

Step 1: Fold one piece of your cardstock in half vertically and then fold your cardstock in half horizontally to create four panels of 4.25 inch x 5.5 inch. Cut out one of the four panels of your cardstock.

Step 2: Fold over the top panel and cut ¼ of an inch from the bottom. Cover this section with white cardstock. On the opposite facing panel, hole punch a full circle out of the extra cardstock and half circle at the top of the card using a 1 inch hole punch.

Step 3: Cut the digital stamp images and a piece of cardstock down to the same size to create a tag for your card. My tag was approximately 3.75 inch x 5 inch.

Step 4: Stack the layers of your tag. The top layer should be your black and white digital stamp image. The second layer should be your color digital stamp image. The bottom layer should be your white cardstock. At the back of your bottom layer, attach an additional white cardstock strip of ¼ inch x 4.25 inch. Fold the full circle previously punched out in Step 2 over the top of the three layers and adhere with brad or eyelet.

On the panel with the half circle cut out at the top, cut out a rectangle of 3.75 inch x 4.5 inch.

Step 5: Adhere all of the open edges on the sides except the top. Slide your tag into the top of the card. The magic trick is to make sure that your top layer with the black and white image is in front of the white panel section and the other two layers are hidden behind the white panel section so that your image is magically filled with color as it is pulled out.

Embellish as desired and pull tag out to watch your scene magically fill with color.

Happy crafting!
