Scrap Journal

May 23, 2012 | Filed under: Articles, Inspiration and tagged with: Christmas Gifts, Do it Yourself, organizer, scrap journal, Wishing Well Creations

You never know when inspiration will strike.

All those little ideas, clippings from magazines, tickets, etc. all need a home while they’re waiting to be scrapped. A place for ideas, sketches as well as cute little pockets to collect clippings and memorabillia.

Scrapping is an important part of my life.  I often think about sketches or explore ideas when I have five minutes (generally while waiting to pick up the kids from a club/school).

Today, I’m going to show you how to create your own scrap journal/organizer.

I put together a scrap organiser  so that I have a go to place to store my ideas and collect my thoughts.  I picked up a kraft ring binder as my base, but  you could put together a journal using a Bind it All or hold it together with book rings.

I used the gorgeous Picket Fences kit because of the bright colours and elements.  For a little bit of fun, I created mini scrap pages for my index cards.  It would be a great idea to add a little inspirational quote to these pages.

Pockets are a must for a scrap journal.  To make a simple pocket, I printed various papers onto cardstock weight paper (I use Epson Archival).  Score around three sides and adhere to the background with red tape.  Do you love the little speech bubbles too?  These cute journal spots are also from Wishing Well Creations and can be found here - I layered mine onto kraft paper to tie in with my theme.

I used the same method to create pockets on some of my index pages too.  These will be great for those clippings and memorabillia.

Plastic pocket inserts normally used for business cards or photos are a great addition to your journal.  Fill them up with journal cards or elements ready for the next time you scrap.  (Check out these fab examples here.)

I bought kraft pages for my book (just because I love kraft).  I left my pages blank for maximum flexibility.  One of my sections is just for sketches.  I made myself a little chipboard square to use as a template so that it is easy to get a neat outline.

I hope that I have inspired you to make a scrap journal of your own.  Remember to mix and match your kits for a really fun look.  I’d love to see your journals too so don’t forget to upload them to the gallery.
