Matchbox Easel

April 2, 2012 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: Christmas, Do it Yourself, Easter, Etc by Danyale, gift, gift boxes, home decor, Kelleigh Ratzlaff

The matchbox template is a nice way to create a small gift box. Today though, we are going to make it even more special by adding a decorative easel in an Easter theme.

PROJECT SUPPLIES

  • Sweet Easter Digital kit from Etc. by Danyale
  • Matchbox template set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff
  • Carrot Box template set and cutting files by Kelleigh Ratzlaff
  • green twine, flower, swirl punch, edge punch
  • cream card stock, orange patterned paper

Start by assembling the matchbox as directed.  I made the large size for this sample.  The inner portion is made of the cream cardstock and the outer sleeve of yellow patterned paper from the SWEET EASTER DIGITAL KIT .  Notice that I added a decorative trim along one edge of the box made with an edge punch.

Cut a strip of matching paper 8 1/4 X 2 1/2 inches. Fold at 3 3/4 and 2 1/4.

Using a photo editing program and elements/paper from SWEET EASTER DIGITAL KIT , create an Easter scene. The final dimension of the frame was 2 7/8 X 3 7/8 which made it slightly larger than the box.   I wanted some dimension on my scene so I cut the bunny (how adorable is that little guy!) as shown.  The egg and the Happy Easter sign are also elements from the kit.

Here is a close up of the bunny pieces.

Place dimensionals on the backs of the bunny pieces.

Start with the largest piece and layer onto the base of the picture.  Add the egg to the front of the frame.

The front piece will be attached to the folded strip of patterned paper so add tape to the top portion.

Attach the scene piece to the folded piece centering it over the bottom portion.

Adhere to the matchbox top.

Adhere the Happy Easter sign to the box about an inch up from the front using dimensionals.

This is the box folded flat.

This is what it looks like popped up in easel mode.

A swirl and flower was added to the front to act as a pull for the drawer. Use a good strong adhesive or glue gun so the flower stays strongly attached.

The bunny needed some carrots so I used the CARROT BOX TEMPLATE SET AND CUTTING FILES to make a few mini carrots to tuck into the box. The length of the carrots was about 3 inches.

Tie the tops with green twine. They are so cute in this tiny size but are still big enough to fill with small candies like M&Ms.

The large box holds 2-3 mini carrots.

Have a very Happy Easter and I hope the Easter Bunny leaves you only good droppings in your basket!
