Cupcake Pocket Card
I love birthdays. My mom always made a big deal out of our birthdays when we were growing up, which was no easy feat with my birthday being SO close to Christmas, but she always made our day special. So when my friends and family members have their birthdays, I love giving them special gifts and hand-crafted cards (and I admit, I like the “Oh! Did you make this?!” comments that accompany the gift and card!).
I have had my eye on Kelleigh Ratzlaff’s cupcake card for a while now. It is super-cute just as she designed it, but I decided to take it to another level and turn it into a pocket card. It was a very easy transformation, and took me about 20 minutes from start to finish.
I chose Bella Gypsy’s You Make Me Happy digital scrapbook kit for its fun, bright color palette. It’s a brand-new kit that releases next week, but I couldn’t resist using it! Enjoy your sneak peek! I just adore those bright pinks and greens! It is a happy kit and I thought it would be perfect for a yummy cupcake card.
Supplies Used
- Cupcake Card Template Set and Cutting Files by Kelleigh Ratzlaff
- You Make Me Happy digital scrapbook kit by Bella Gypsy
- Epson Premium Matte Photo Paper
- Photoshop
CS5
- 1/8″ red line tape
- glue dots
- Zig two-way glue pen
- Happy Birthday stamp from the Swirls4Words stamp set by The {Stamps} of Life
- Close To My Heart ink in Bubblegum
- PK Glitz glitter in White Orchid
- yellow ruffle ribbon
- pink rhinestones
The way Kelleigh designs her files makes this modification process SO easy! She not only has one full card as a clipping mask, but she also includes each separate piece of the card as a clipping mask as well. It is very simple to clip different papers to the various parts of the cupcake as well as make other changes as needed.
I downsized the template a bit so I could fit all of my pieces onto one sheet of paper. In order to make the piece that slides into the cupcake holder, I duplicated the “middle of card” layer and reduced it’s size by about 82%. My canvas looked like this:
I printed out the document and then cut out the shapes (I admit I used my Silhouette Cameo, but scissors work just as well here!). I placed the inside of the cupcake on top of the back to determine where I needed to place my red line tape.
I added the red line tape, removed the inside piece and then folded the top of the cupcake into place.
After that, I slid the inside piece back in to make sure it fit. I applied adhesive to the top of the inside piece, and used the back of the cupcake to line the top frosting piece up. Be mindful of where you apply your adhesive, so the cupcake frosting piece can overlap the outside cupcake wrapper and still be removed from the pocket.
Voilá! One completed card. Well, almost – it does need a bit of embellishing to give it that WOW factor!
I used glue dots to add the yellow ruffled ribbon. Then I ran my Zig 2-way glue pen around the scallops and top of the cupcake frosting and added some glitter. I placed a few pink rhinestones on the bottom of the frosting piece. And finally, I stamped a happy birthday sentiment on the lower right corner of the inside card piece.
Here’s the inside of the card pulled out to show the sentiment.
and here’s the completed card! I just love how it turned out, and how very easy it was to put together.
This card is really cute all on its own, but you could add a gift card to the inside of the pocket to make it even better! If you use Kelleigh’s template to make your own pocket card, be sure to leave a link so I can see what you created!
