Today, we’re going to be making an Independence Day Starburst decoration to hang on your wall. It will make a wonderful addition to any celebration, picnic or family gathering. And it doesn’t have to just be for the Fourth of July, you can change the paper used and make it for Valentine’s, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.
So let’s gather our supplies:
- Happy Little Fourth paper pack by Quirky Twerp
- Star Spangled Template Set by Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs
- (2) 8.5″ x 11″ sheets each of Blue, Red, White cardstock
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scoring Tool
The first thing we are going to do is trim our cardstock to 4″ x 5″ – you should end up with 24 rectangles.
You will now add adhesive on the 5″ side of the paper.
I initially started with a glue stick, but it just wasn’t sticky enough, so I switched to a tape runner instead. Double sided tape would work just as well to keep the cone shape together.
We’re now going to make our cone shape. Taking the opposite left bottom corner and start rolling the paper to make a cone.
Your cone should end up like this:
Continue this with all the other papers. Once you get the hang of it, the rolling process becomes easier. Once all your papers are rolled, get your chipboard – using a cereal box will work. Cut a circle about 8″ and then mark a smaller circle in the middle. This will be your guide where to put the papers.
This is where a very strong adhesive is needed. I grabbed my hot glue gun for this part.
I took the cones and started working in a red, white and blue pattern.
Keep going until your circle is complete.
For the finishing touches, I created a star using Star Spangled Template Set by Kelleigh. I shrank them down a little.
I then made a rosette. If you aren’t sure how to make one, step by step instructions can be found in this article: Sour Cream Treat Containers.
I added my star to my rosette and then used my glue gun to trace around the edge of the cones and put my rosette on top.
Once everything was dry, I took a small piece of ribbon and glued it to the back with my glue gun.
And this is the finished result.
Praying you have a blessed Independence Day!!
