Envelope Travel Album

June 23, 2011 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: digichick collabs, Do it Yourself, Envelope Album, Travel Album

The Digichick is one of the featured contributors for the Digi Files at The Daily Digi for the month of June 2011. The designers outdid themselves when creating this amazing kit packed full of Vintage Travel Ephemera…and who does not just love Vintage?

Supplies:

DIGITAL

  • Envelope Template Included in the TDC Around the World Collaboration – available at The Digichick in July
  • Photos

PHYSICAL

  • Epson Premium Matte Paper
  • Bone Folder
  • Circle punch
  • Border punch
  • Corner Rounder
  • Distress Ink and Sponge Applicator
  • Glimmer Mist
  • Cropodile/Hole Punch
  • Twine/Waxed Thread for Bookbinding
  • Needle
  • 2 Buttons
  • Embellishments: Flowers, Metal Charms, Pearls, Lace, Jewel Centers, Punched Butterflies from Scraps.

Step 1
Choose your photos. Add them to the template. Flatten and Print. Depending on how much detail you want to put in the album, I suggest you print out the following:

10 Tags/Photos – WIDTH: 3.5 in HEIGHT: 5 in

Outer Flap/Envelope: WIDTH: 4 1/4 in HEIGHT: 3 3/4 in

Step 2

Trim your Tags. Grab your scoring tool, ruler and the 3 Travel Album Pages you printed out.

Step 3

Score and fold the Travel Album Pages along the length at 2.5 in and 6.25 in.

Your Album Pages should look like this.

Step 4

Use a circle punch to punch out half circles. Don’t be concerned if the punch does not want to go all the way through, just remove and use your scissors.

Your Album Pages should look like this.

Step 5

I used my border punch to trim the edge of one of the album pages.

Step 6

For the Envelope Tab/Flap I printed out a extra bit of paper at 4 1/4 in x 3 3/4 in. I scored it along the length at 2 in and 2 1/4 in.

(And in case you are wondering, that unsightly blue/green line is because I have to clean my printer’s heads! Ack! lol! So NO the album/papers dont have that!)

Using a corner rounder I rounded two of the four corners.

Step 7

I took this extra step, but feel free to skip it if it is too involved for you. I stitched along the length and sides as well as the outer envelop edge/flap.

Step 8

I used Frayed Burlap Distress Ink and Sponge applicator to apply a chalked and distressed edge.

Step 9

I added some glimmer mist to some of my pages…I {BIG Puffy Heart} Love Glimmer Mist!

Here are the pages so far…

Step 10

You can just punch 2 holes and thread some ribbon or twine through or you can use this fun and easy technique to create a beautifully bound book.

To create this bound book, punch a hole in the center of the book and about 1 inch on each side of the first hole ( or easier punch a hole at 0.875 in, 1.875 in and 2.875in). With a needle and thread/ribbon start from the outside fold center hole and run a stitch to one of the outer holes, re-enter the thread at the remaining outside outer hole and combine the last stitch in the center hole. Tie the 2 ends together and your book is bound.

Use 2 buttons – one on the outer page of the album and one on the envelope flap as shown below.

DECORATE
Now the true fun starts…go ahead and decorate your pages. Have a look at what I did:

Those shadows are awesome!!!

The inside tags…you can use them for journaling or more photos.
Some close ups…
