Valentine’s Day Candy Boxes

February 7, 2011 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: digichick collabs, Do it Yourself, gift boxes, Kelleigh Ratzlaff, kid-friendly, templates, Valentine's Day

This month it’s all about love. What a better way to say “I Love You” than with a little sweetness? Today, I will show you how to create simple and easy-to-make candy boxes perfect to give to someone you love this Valentine’s Day!

Project Supplies from the Digi Chick:

Playing Cards Box #1 Template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff

From the Heart – a Boutique Collab Kit

Other Supplies: Scalloped Circle Punch or Die Cut, Buttons, Twine, Ribbon (or flower), Adhesive, and Foam Tape.

Step 1. Print out Playing Cards Box #1 Template onto cardstock. I printed the template on the front side then ran my paper back through my printer with a patterned background on the reverse side.

Step 2. Now, it’s time to assemble your box! Cut out your template and score. Fold along the score lines and apply one strip of adhesive along the edge like I’ve illustrated in the photo below. Simply tuck in the bottom fold and your box is assembled!

Step 3. Next, it’s time to decorate! I created a scalloped circle cut using my Cuttlebug. If you don’t own a die cut machine, you can use a scalloped circle punch as a substitute. I chose to ink around the edges with a pink Color Box chalk ink. I really like the look!

Step 4. Wrap your twine around the boxes and adhere your circles with foam tape onto the front of your boxes. To decorate my boxes, I used a heart-shaped sticker from Martha Stewart, flower-shaped ribbon trim from American Crafts, and buttons and twine from Papertrey Ink.

Now we can’t forget the last detail – it’s the most important part. The candy! Fill your boxes with sweethearts candy (they now sell them by the bag) or any small assortment of chocolates. These little boxes are sweet and personal, can be made in minutes and are yummy enough to give to your Valentine!
