Decorated Tin

December 13, 2010 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: Christmas, Christmas Gifts, Do it Yourself, gift, Mari Koegelenberg

Thanks for joining me today as I share my bath fizzies tin project. I have a ton of people on my list for holiday gifts this year and I am working away on my homemade projects to help keep the cost down. This project would be great anytime of the year, not just for the holidays.

Supplies:

  • 12 Days the kit by Mari Koegelenberg
  • Photoshop Elements
  • Tin (Papertrey Ink)
  • Paper for printer
  • Scor-Tape
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon
  • Circle punch or die

My first task was to choose a paper and format it to the size I needed in Photoshop Elements. I chose a colorful paper from the kit that matched my bath fizzies. After opening a new document, I added the paper and a tag element and printed it. This kit is adorable, full of fun wintery images and works for more masculine projects as well!

I then measured the paper in order to cut it to the right length to cover the whole tin. I stuck a piece of Scor-Tape along the whole edge of the tin to ensure it would stick. I did end up adding a couple of tiny bits to the top and bottom of the edge so it would curl up. If you are using thick paper, it helps to roll the paper slightly before trying to adhere.

Next I got to work on the tag which I cut out by hand and then sponged ink over the edges to hide any imperfect cuts. I decided to use a stamp to customize the tag and then added the handwritten title. Two tiny gems add a bit of sparkle to the tag.

Then I punched two holes and threaded the ribbon through each side. In order for it not to slip, I put a piece of Scor-Tape on the back, covering the end of each ribbon. I could then adjust the ribbon tighter as necessary once it was in place around the tin. I decided to decorate the top also so I cut out a circle from the same paper and adhered on top.

The contents of the tin are homemade bath fizzies.

It was very easy and fun to make and my three year old even helped! I found the recipe and directions here at the Sherbet Blossom blog. My fizzies were made with pink coloring and are rose scented. They smell so wonderful and I can’t wait to try them out myself!

Thanks for taking a look at my project!
