Holiday Gift Card Tags

November 22, 2010 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: Christmas, Christmas Gifts, Do it Yourself, Mari Koegelenberg

Hello everyone! I hope you are all getting prepared to have a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving Day with your family. The year seems to have gone by so fast! Soon Thanksgiving will be gone and it will be time for Christmas – and that means, getting gifts, spreading charity, and spending moments with your loved ones.

With so much to do and so little time, I thought of sending a few gift cards this season as gifts. Being the crafty person I am (and I know you are too), I wanted to create my own fun little gift card holders that would be perfect to hang on the Christmas tree or even attached to a gift bag. All you need is some pretty holiday papers from The Digi Chick!

I printed out my patterned papers double-sided and borderless. I chose papers from the Snow Much Fun kit from Mari Koegelenberg. I just love the fun colors and adorable patterns from this kit! I cut out strips of paper measuring 8″ x 3″.

To create the pocket, use a scoreboard to score at 3″. Then within that same 3″ area, score 1/4″ around each side. This will gift a nice affect after the pocket is put together!

Next, apply double-sided adhesive around the 1/4″ scored edges leaving the top edge without adhesive (this will be the top of the pocket). Fold to create the pocket.

To create the shape of the tag, measure 1″ from the pocket on both sides, and with a pencil, add a small dot. Then at the bottom, measure from the left 1″ – add a pencil dot, and do the same from the right side. Cut off the corners starting from the left-side dot on the bottom of your paper towards the dot on the left side. Repeat this on the right side. You will end up with a tag that should look like the photo below.

Using a 1/8″ hole punch, punch a hole at the top of the tag. Use a 2.5″ circle punch to cut out the “To and From” and adhere to the front of the pocket. Next, tie a ribbon around the top of the pocket (my ribbon measures approximately 18″).

Last step is to add some twine or ribbon through the hole that you punched out. I think the twine gives it a nice touch! You can use the twine to attach to a gift bag or the Christmas tree!

I truly think this is a perfect way to make giving a gift card more personal – because it was handmade! I hope you have fun making your own holiday tags!

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!
