Sure it’s only the second day of Autumn, but it is never too early to start preparing for the holidays. It’s time to get started on making your holiday cards! Does that sound like a daunting task? Is it still too warm out to think about this? Well, if you are like me, you end up spending many hours trying to get holiday cards made for all the people on your list. There you are burning the midnight oil as December is fast approaching – or already arrived! Only to find yourself standing in long lines at the post office to buy stamps to mail out all your lovely creations. What could be easier than to digitally design your cards, print them, cut them and have them ready to mail or dress up gifts you will be presenting?
I’ve got an idea to share that may just help speed up the process of making holiday cards. Templates! Not card templates. But scrapbook templates. There are many beautiful templates available at The Digichick Shop. I used two different templates by Kellie Mize. You can easily adjust a scrapbook template to use for making cards. Most templates are sized at 12in x 12in. All you need to do is resize them in your photo editing software. You can set them to 5in x 5in and have the base for a wonderful card.
I used Tortuga Template No.154 to make a Christmas card. The delicate bird and frame that Kellie included in the template seemed to shout out “holidays” to me.
I used another of Kellie’s templates to make a Thanksgiving card. This time I used the Tortuga Template N. 152. The tree on this template has a nice Autumn, family feel to it.
Can’t find square envelopes to put your cards in? Not to worry. You can make your own! Using the CD/DVD Template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff, I made a matching envelope for the Christmas card.
If you like, you can include family photos on your cards using the photo mats already included on the template. So give it a try! I hope this helps to reduce the stress you might feel at the holidays, while allowing you to be creative in designing some heartfelt greetings to share with family and friends.
