Hi! I’m Linda, and I’m new to the Hybrid Chick Design Team. I’m thrilled to be here! Here’s my first project for the blog…
Where I live, we’re getting ready for “Back to School” – here’s a project that will make the process a little prettier!
I created the pencil/pen box using the Butterfly Dreams papers by Michelle Batton and the Pencil Box Collection Templates by Kelleigh Ratzlaff. I love using templates because I don’t want to work too hard when creating! I printed these templates and designs straight onto my Epson Premium Presentation Matte Paper, and then just followed the directions.
I printed the template and designed paper onto one side, and just the design on the other side, so that my project would look nice inside & out!

This is the box once cut/scored/assembled.

FYI
This is what it looks like if you don’t bother printing the designed paper on both sides. Still works, but not quite as pretty! lol
Of course, you need to have contents in the container….so I decorated up some pens, pencil & eraser…it is a pencil box after all (but that doesn’t mean you’re restricted to those items!!)

I used scraps left from the paper after cutting out the template to wrap around the pencil, and also to insert into the pen barrel. I used Pentel RSVP pens. You can use nail polish remover to remove the lettering so the barrel is perfectly clear!
I used a scrap of remaining decorated paper cut to approx 3-5/8″ by 3/4″ and rolled it around the ink refill before inserting it into the pen barrel:

For the pencil, I just used double sided tape. If you’re a neat crafter, you could always use Modge Podge to adhere the paper to the pencil itself, but I tend to be messy so end up with my fingers stuck to the project, and then ripping off layers of the design as I try to free myself… (Sad, but true…) I did manage to get a layer of modge podge onto the pencil to finish it off, though!

I embellished the completed box with some butterflies (Stampin’ Up! butterfly punch) using another design from the Butterfly Dreams paper pack. I finished them off with a half pearl (Stampin’ Up! Pretties kit). The tag uses a sentiment stamp from the Stampin’ Up! set Flight of the Butterfly, stamped in Stampin’ Up! Brocade Blue classic (dye) ink, held in place by some Night of Navy grosgrain ribbon. The flower and rhinestone brad are also from the Stampin’ Up! pretties kit, with a 1″ circle punched from the Butterfly Dreams paper.
Hope you enjoyed this project!
