Hi everyone! I’m here today to show how I made an interactive board book for kids. This project is fun and easy to put together and should encourage some great reading with the kids!
For this project I used:
Basic Grey 6 x6 in scallop chipboard album
Barnyard Blast Kit by Jan Hosford and Pamela Donnis
Paper no 2 from Little Garden kit by Ellie Lash
Photoshop Elements 6
Epson Premium Presentation Paper
1/2 in Scor Tape
Elmer’s Craft Bond glue pen
foam tape
Detail scissors
Fiskars Fingertip craft knife
ruler
Walnut Stain Distress ink by Ranger and sponge
5/8 in hole punch
alphabet stamps
ribbon
Let’s get started! First, I had a great time creating my pages using the Barnyard Blast kit for the scenes and the blue paper from the Little Garden kit for the sky. I tried to vary each page a bit and also kept in mind where my flaps would be that would hide my words. I made each page 6×6 to fit my album. I also made a title page and “dedication” page to my kids with the date so I could remember when I made it in the future!
I also filled an 8 1/2 by 11 inch page with the animals that I will use on each page. For my book I used all the animals in the kit: rooster, duck, pig, horse, cow and sheep.
Once I printed those out, I laid a page from the album on the back of each printed sheet (alternating which side as I needed to punch a hole) and traced around it. I went back with my scissors to cut them out. I also cut out the animals for each page.
Using my fingertip knife and ruler, I carefully cut out an opening on three sides to make a door. On some pages I used the barn door or window and on others I used the tree or tractor.
Then, I created the back of each window by laying some cardstock behind each window and tracing, to ensure that my letters would be visible. I stamped the animal sounds on each piece of cardstock with my alphabet stamps and adhered it to the back of the page. (You can see that I used a scrap piece of cardstock with a stamped damask image on the back!)
The next step is to ink all the edges of the printed pages. I also inked all the animals at this time to give them more depth. Then I adhered them to the chipboard album using a combination of Scor tape and craft glue. (I would have used Modge Podge but my lid is sealed shut and I was too lazy to figure out how to open it!!)
After that I added the appropriate animal to each page, popping them up with foam tape. I then put the album pages together with the ring that was included and added one green ribbon (couldn’t add too many ribbons as my son would surely protest!)
