Hybrid Hairclips

July 6, 2009 | Filed under: Articles and tagged with: gift, hairclips, jewelry, making memories slice, mod podge, SarahJ

The joy of having a girl is to have someone to dress up in cute girly clothes and a sweet hairdo… not so in my case! lol! My dd HATES having her hair done so it is fun doing a project like this that makes her feel special and ‘motivates’ her to wear something in her hair.

Plus it is a very special and unique gift to any Girly Girl at heart! You can do just a few or with the help of a Die-Cutting Machine you can do a large production line.

Remember you don’t need a Die-Cutting machine to complete this project…explore some of the Default Shapes in your photo editing program to use as a clipping mask for your digital papers.

Let us gather our supplies for this fun project…

supplies

DIGITAL:

  • Pish Posh Paper Pack by Sarah Jones

PHYSICAL:

  • Matte Photo Paper
  • Die-Cutting Machine (I used the Making Memories Slice)
  • Low Temperature Glue Gun
  • Mod Podge
  • Buttons
  • Hairclips

STEP 1:

thc-hairclips004In your photo editing program open up a new 8×10 inch document @ 300dpi. You can use a 8.5×11 inch document if you have a borderless printer. I resized the paper’s I wanted to use to 6×6 inches and arranged them on my document till I had 4 blocks sized 4×5 inches each. Print out your final document on Matte Photo Paper.

Following the directions for your Die-Cutting Machine cut out your shapes at about 1 inch – 1.5 inches sizes.

Just look at that…doesn’t it just look adorable? I must confess that these papers are just so cute and fun to work with! They are definetely worth adding to your stash…they are perfect for cards and any hybrid project you can think of!

STEP 2:

thc-hairclips006Apply Mod Podge to your flowers one at a time and manipulate them while they are wet to curl them into petal shapes. Be Careful to not smudge the ink!

Let them dry thoroughly. They will retain their shape thanks to the Mod Podge.

Heat up your glue gun and be sure to use the low temperature gun so as not to burn yourself, if you dont have one use any good strong Craft Glue.

Layer your flowers onto the end of the hairclip and glue them together using the glue gun. Add a Button as a final touch.

And there you have it… cute unique girly clips and girl would be proud to wear! Although I had to bribe mine to take a photo! :D

[...] I then proceeded to cut all of the little flowers out as well as my template. I used a technique that I got from Mari’s Hybrid Hair clips for the flowers! All you have to do is scrunch the flowers up a bit and mod podge them so they will look like they are actual flowers.  You can find the whole tutorial here. [...]
